  1. Never liked feeding the dogs on pork,... I found that the leg bones splintered badly. However, when the farm lads butcher a few porkers, I often scrounge a head for my curs,...they love em
  2. Try not to over-complicate the ferreting game,...keep it simple,..in and out,..no fecking about..
  3. The ear carriage would suggest a Whippet influence....
  4. Here at Hampshire Wasp Control we charge £40 for the first nest and £10.00 for any others..
  5. Goodonya young fellah,...it takes a man to admit he was a tad hasty ... As an aside,...whilst I sometimes don't enjoy Tyson's gobby script ...I would go along with your opinion that he will make the cut, and some day,..become a Champion.... I spent a lot of time with Roms when I was a boy,..and I understand their way of thinking.... All the best to you and yours, Phil..
  6. Vin (or should I call you,..... Mr President).. I do believe, there are still plenty of good, strong, honest bitch ferrets available... Bit late for this year,..but lets see how things pan out, after this season's work,...then,..perhaps a wee bit of judicious matchmaking might be on the cards... I am sure that those of us who realy want to, can still,.. get back to basics...
  7. Never subscribed to the notion that 'All ferrets will work, if given the chance'.. .
  8. Too right Tomo,... When waiting for bolters,.the action is often fast and furious and a made dog will strike the rabbit in an instant...There is very little time to think,...so a lurcher must be well broken to ferrets,....or it can get,... emotional..
  9. Smashing picture Willow.. I was tail docking some Red Fell types and the owner asked me if I wanted a pup...? They were beautiful whelps,.but I declined his kind offer, as back then,..my running dogs were only used after dark....I had been awarded quite a few fines via the Magistrates Court, and the Judge had assured me that my next stop would have to be Winchester Jail,.so no more day walking for me Far too risky... However, a few months on,.I had an early morning mouch out, with the owner and a young pup that he had kept back...She was a nice thing,.a gorgeous fiery red in hue
  10. @ Comanche... That Gestapo like interrogation of vendors is the norm, when acquiring new pups,...I am the world's worst for it... You obviously passed the test,..well done..
  11. That is stirling advice.... We all like a wee bit of praise,..it's human nature,...but I have learn't that putting up images can be a costly business... There is a lot of jealousy out there,..and some clowns covet a fellow hunter's livestock...ferrets being no exception... Facts are, until it happens,...we never think it will happen,.... Thank feck I am out of the hunting game,...these days I only keep a wee Cur,.. as a pet... Life is now better,...and far more chilled....
  12. I do hope you get your ferrets back fellah... It is a rotten feeling, to walk down the garden and see the fronts ripped off your hutches, and your workers chored.... I no longer keep any stock at home,..I have moved what was left of my originals, onto a mates farm... For me,..it is the only option,..Admittedly, it is a pain having to drive over to collect a team of ferrets,... but it is better putting them in lodgings, than having to turn the garden into Fort Knox Sometimes a wee garden rabbit job comes in, all of a sudden,.. and it would be so easy to simply scoop up a box full and
  13. Well done Optimus... That old advert realy does put the contemporary show scene in perspective.... Lambourn,.possibly the greatest gathering of lurchers ever assembled..... Nothing but running dogs,.. as far as the eye could see.. Halcyon Days dear reader, Halcyon Days...
  14. The only person who must take the day seriously,..is the Judge...
  15. It is a shame that the modified Victor Rat Trap cannot be legally used against Stoats.... If set in the correct manner,..this modestly priced tool is a superbly humane killer of Stoats... But,..there ya go....
  16. Hi matt,.congrats on your new pup.. You have him at a good time,...just let the tyke enjoy a warm summer on his back.. Get him 'out and about' and allow him to experience everything ,..and I do mean everything What you do now,.will impact upon the rest of his life...so make his education,..sensible, but comprehensive.. But,..make sure you are his best pal,..and not the other dogs,... Enjoy,...all the best, Phil..
  17. Keep em coming lads,..kids and working dogs go together, like Apple Pie and Custard...
  18. That was a lovely wee read,...and so evocative of good days gone by... Where the feck did it all go wrong... .
  19. Fyffes used to produce a similar box....
  20. Hi Dan... Whippets, realy are deadly around bushes and hedgerows,..they are literally,... made for the job... Can you not hook up with a lad who keeps a bushing dog of some type ? Once your dogs twig onto the game, you will have sport like you cannot believe.. Let the dogs hunt free.... All the best, Phil.
  21. For me, it ain't how a man writes,..it's what he writes.... Revealing an honest and genuine passion for the hunting game is far more important,.. than fine prose....
  22. Vin is a proper little Entrepreneur...
