  1. This is Swifty, another litter sister...
  2. You have made a real nice job of that dog.... This is Maggie,...his litter sister...
  3. Hi,...well I can only tell you how I use the Talpex Trap... Once the trap is in situ,..I filter a good bit of loose soil either side of the trap.. I like to make sure that the tunnel is blocked, either side of the trigger plate,...this causes the mole to push the soil ahead (this leaves him in a vulnerable position).....I then put some soil over the top of the plate.... I don't like using this method with soaking wet, claggy mud.. The Talpex style of trap, does not work as well, if lumps of soggy soil are utilised... The advantage of the genuine Dutch Talpex is its great power....
  4. I first tried the Talpex, several decades ago.... Truth was, I found the trap to be baffling....the entire concept of its usage and methodology totally confused me,...I just could not get my head around it For years I walked another path,..and it was a lonely one ,...and one that I had hoped to keep to myself...Alas,...the genie is now well and truly out of the bottle,...and mole catchers are as common as Black Eyed Whites... Like long lost lovers,..me and the Talpex are now re-united,..and I regret the years we spent apart. There are several ways of setting the Talpex Trap..
  5. Well,..I would not expect any Chuckles blood to come my way,....such a top rate working line would probably be wasted on an old Moucher... But,..I would have tried my best with a brace of kits, bred off the B Team... Maybe next year,...if I am still around....
  6. Wish I was nearer Vin....
  7. Superb footage,...ultra keen whippets , doing their thing,.. amidst some fabulous ground... Would be great to see them in the flesh...real enjoyable...rabbiting at its best... Keep up the good work...
  8. My favourite style of hunting....
  9. You see an amazing variety in wall eyes,.some are beautiful..whilst others are strange..
  10. Personaly,..I admire anyone who tries to create something,..be it a film, a book or even a magazine article... Nowadays,..with all the information to hand,..and with the availability of modern technology,..lightweight powerful cameras, manned by savvy guys who can obviously use them,....well,...the sky's the limit.. Nothing much beats, walking at night with the wind in your face,.or having a mouch around at first light,...watching the new day unfold,...but,...a good piece of well written text or an exciting bit of footage,..is no bad thing... Facts are, those of us who have a pass
  11. I would agree with you there ... It ain't no joke, catching your fingers/hand, twixt the spring arms,.on a cold and frosty morning...
  12. You will definitely be able to sell the business... Several years, before I went on 'the moles' ,.I had a thriving Pest control business,...dozens of Contracts,... I became jaded (bored to fecking death actualy ) with the 'rats, mice and crawling insects',...so, I sold off ALL my contracts. Close pals all told me that I was mad,.that I would starve without that guaranteed income,.but I didn't... There is something to be said for making a change..... All the best, Phil.
  13. Whatever the cross,...without a determined prey drive,...the entire exercise is destined to end in tears... The best of every type,...wants it,..craves it, needs it,..like a drowning man needs air.....
  14. Good question Trenchfoot... Speaking personaly,..a handy collie lurcher,...should hopefully retain a good portion of collie sacacity,.. whilst being able to adapt to varying situations it encounters, in the manner of a sensible, versitile herder,..but,...it should still have a fair degree of physicality at its disposal,...and possess the nesessary amount of speed, to actualy catch its quarry
  15. There are some cracking pictures on this thread... It is heartwarming to see all the chavies with their dogs,...it is also extremely moving... Smiling youngsters, with all their lives ahead of them,..so much to see and do..and hopefully achieve... I have had my day in the sun,..and enjoyed every bit of my Hunting Life,.however, a big regret is that I do not have an image to share,.. for inclusion in this most enjoyable thread.... Keep em' coming....
  16. Hi Bird,....yes, the two pups were collie based lurchers....
  17. I have a second hand D300,....I thought that I had cracked the Instruction Manual,..I thought that I understood ? Sadly,..I don't... I realise that this Nikon camera was designed with the Semi pro in mind, and it is presumed that the operater has a firm grasp of the various dials,.but,.truth is, I wish that there was an AUTO facility....a kind of, 'point and shoot' menu... I am fed up, travelling to a far away destination ,..allowing my cur to hunt up her quarry,..only for me to waste the opportunity of an action shot. Upon reflection,...the Nikon D300 was maybe a bridge too far
  18. @ Border Lad,...a man after my own heart.... It always amazes me when veteran hunters start talking about cur dogs and other, old style jukels,..only to be told by serious young fellows,..how physicaly limited such animals are,.compared to some of the other, more obviously lethal types.... There is a small part of me, that feels like shouting out,.'We know that,.you silly feckers'.... I hate waste,...so, nowadays, being primarily a hunter of rabbits in dense woodland and amidst factory units,..etc, ..I do not need a top class hare courser, lamping specialist or deer puller,. it wo
  19. Hi Fuji,..yeah, back then, we thought we would live forever,...
  20. When I bred this dog,..I honestly thought ,.'this is the one, to move forwards with'....and hopefully start to produce,.. my own prefered type of work dog..... Foolishly, I left it too long,... he was the last of my line,...and when he died,..it was too late to start again.... That is why,..if you have something that you believe in,...don't trust in fate,...don't wait..... Jake,..a real canny Jukel....
