  1. It is rewarding, to see a tyro lurcher, starting to twig on and become proficient at his job... Roll on next season, eh...
  2. I think we should ALL have a trip back up to London
  3. Anyway,..we have all enjoyed the excellant film clips of the lads in the Dales,.. I feel that they exhibit perfectly, the fact that you need to use methods that are proven for the areas you are working over... All the best, and good hunting..
  4. That is a real nice looking animal Optimus...
  5. Get yer drift fellah,...and you are probably right.... But, it does seem illogical, if they allow hounds to hunt foxes again,..but do not allow a Hare to be coursed.... If the original premise was that our sports had to be banned, due to animal welfare issues,..then where is the logic of allowing one type of wild critter to legally be pursued,..but not another...There is no point,. in offering politicians a chance to vote freely, if the end result of such a vote,..is not permitted to reinstate,...... everything..
  6. There seems to be a hell of a lot to this feeding business... Back in the day,...there was no need to be a Chemist,...we just fed em,.. what was to hand... Maybe that was the wrong thing to do,...who knows... Fecking complicated affair,..these running dogs....thank feck I only keep wee cur dogs....
  7. Whilst the India rubber concept might have been available,..rabbit trappers (and country folk in general) were always reluctant to accept change... I never saw any Gins wearing such potentially humane devices,...more is the pity... As stated earlier,....it is the images of fur bearers,.hanging off high posts, tree sets, etc,...with their limbs held firmly, in the vice-like grip of steel, that is firmly ensconced into the viewer's mind.... I doubt we shall ever see foothold traps in use again,..here in the Uk...
  8. I've heard the same, well worn statement, hundreds of times,...'Without the Greyhound influence,..we would have no lurchers'.....and yes, for many years,..this was possibly the case... However,..nowadays, we do have a wider choice....
  9. Watched my old man (and his dad)...bedding in Gins for rabbits... They were a super efficient trap for burrows,...quick and easy to set,...and they got results... Folk reckoned that the serrated jaws were essential to prevent rabbits from escaping,.but, I believe if back then,..we had the choice of rubber jaws (like some contemporary footholds utilise today),...we might still be using, such undeniably successful tools...
  10. Well done to the old'un... Ideal for a Pheasant Jalfrezi ! I've always felt that taking birds is part and parcel of a Moucher's companion... It can get you into trouble occasionally,..but there ya go,...it is the nature of the beast...
  11. Hi Sparky,. yes,..I have heard she was a good sort of a critter... My own bitch has thrown more to the Collie, than her litter mates,..that suits me just fine..
  12. Well,...the wee breeding project has certainly moved on,.. since his Auntie.....
  13. All types of hunting cause stress to some extent,...facts are, for us it is just sport or pest control,..however,...for the target species,...it is kinda serious....
  14. I've been on most of the contemporary hunting forums.... The ones that interested me the most,..were, Collie Curs and Rabbiters UK ..... Both have gone to the wall,...shame realy, cos I found these sites informative and I met some interesting folk.
  15. C'mon Myers,...get with the team man,..us mole catchers are the fecking elite of the trapping world
  16. Lots of varying viewpoints,...plenty of personal opinions being stated,.. this is good...
  17. Where do I start? There is a lot of misinformation bandied about on forums by people who have never set a net at night. Unfortunately people who know no better believe what they read. Will 6z catch rabbits? Answer yes. Will 6z catch as many rabbits as 4z? Never as long as you have a hole in your ar$e. I have a 4z net here that is over 30 years old and it has some patches in it, does it still catch rabbits? Hell yes. Just remember a rabbit can chew through a 6z net just as fast as a 4z. As for cutting up a net learn how to mend them there is a tutorial as a sticky in this section. TC
  18. Recall is a real important thing... Without a reliable recall,...you generally end up in trouble... Food is often the key... I have found most dogs respond extremely well to treats
  19. Personaly,..I think we need to act like adults over such matters.. I fecking hate censorship,...I dislike not being able to do,.. what I want to do in life,... The concept of a hunting forum, is surely to discuss what we do,..how we do it,..and if you fancy,.what we catch.. Nothing wrong with that,..and if lads want to post pictures of their catches,..then why not... However,..the hunting scene has changed,..drastically,... Nowadays,..to aid the continuance of our survival as hunters,.we need to watch our backs,.be cautious, be aware.. It is so easy to become lulled, into a s
  20. @ Sussex,.c'mon man,.you are a Stalker,...'Patience Grasshopper'....you will prevail...
