I don't think I could really do one justice, Chris...

So pleased to hear folk are still prepared to try,.. a walk on the wild side...

Tried the micro Hob once,..it was emotional...

The true test of a family, a line, or a purpose-bred strain of working ferrets, is their ability to find their quarry in different situations... Its the same with roustabout curs,..they have to be adaptable,..or like the Dinosaur,..they simply don't make the cut...

She is really typical of the first cross hybrid Fats... Nice looking gal,..my favorite type of jukel...

Like most folk,.I've had ferrets that have come from the strangest of places... Pet homes, hippy communes, Laboratories, even genuine 'ferret farms',...plus a handful that I have trapped in carrot cages, Fenns, and even some lost souls, found when out rabbiting...They all worked, to a degree and at the time, I was mighty glad of them... However,... I've also been made to look a total c*nt , in front of a paying customer, by utilizing a borrowed Hob or a brace of so-called, terrific working Jills... There is no substitute for being around, good honest, trustworthy, tried and test

Some sensible thoughts there Vin... Facts are, it often costs a man a whole lot of time, effort and to some degree, financial outlay,..to produce a reliable line of working animals. If a stranger wants to own something that has taken you a fair bit of effort to create,..then he must pay your price, or go elsewhere,..its no big deal. My mind harks back to a time when ALL our ferrets worked,..as did our running dogs, curs, and terriers,...nobody I knew kept non-workers... Why on earth would they...? Nowadays,..(speaking personally)... I only keep pet/companion dogs, but

Permission granted by greenskeeper
Phil Lloyd replied to hedge wanderer's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Too fecking right... Health and Safety is a ball breaker, as is an often, uneducated public,...totally unaware of what needs to be done, and the reasons for doing it... Porton Down...so serene and peaceful -
When a bad situation arises, you can bet yer life, it will be on a fecking Sunday... Vets are no different any other business,..they are in it for the vonga,.I don't like it, but I don't blame them... So, if you have to go, it is favorite to have a few strings to your bow, just in case,...in other words, have a backup plan in place, should one guy not be available. Obviously, a running dog vet is way ahead of a Hamster man, but even they like to have some time off... What I learned several decades ago is,..try to sort your own animals out, if at all possible... It was called Nighthunter, filmed in VHS in the late 80s, just for a wee bit of fun, nothing special, just a fuzzy old amateur effort. Ain't seen a copy for years,..but If ya hang on in there, it will probably be on the fecking Antiques Roadshow someday...

Yes it was hard, back in the day,...and the film developers, at Boots the Chemist must have seen some rare old sights What is even more curious, is where these antique images actually end up It's no matter, Bonny Lad,..,...for, they can steal our precious images, but not our freedom

Rats are 'all over' at the moment,...the constant rain can cause the water level in the Sewer system to rise dramatically, often driving the rodents up into the daylight. Caught two litters of rats from neighbor's houses, either side of us and the dogs have also accounted for a few others... I favor the Modified Victor Rat Trap, ...I've also taken plenty, in the plastic Kness traps, but I am not 100% confident, in their killing capabilities... As an aside, when setting a Fenn trap for rats,..it is often better to bury the trap in the loose, dry soil, .(bedding it well in),..just

Thanks for that Optimus,..... Facts are, I don't contribute much to a day's hunting,...I just kinda wander around aimlessly ..talking the talk

A better rabbit trap?
Phil Lloyd replied to hedge wanderer's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
The real problem with using killing traps, to catch rabbits 'in their Burrows',... is just that... -

Its been a quiet rabbiting season...my worst ever... I've been lucky to receive, a few invitations to hunt with fellow enthusiasts and grateful as I am, it's not the same without your own jukel by your side. At the end of last season, my wee cur badly damaged her foot in a collision with some concrete rubble, she tore the tendons on her front foot and could not walk, let alone run. It was a bad injury as much as, everything else on her was working,..just not her foot,..a bit like having a high-performance car, with a blown wheel,..no fecking good... My first port of call, s

2 Jills & 1 Litter in the Same Cage?
Phil Lloyd replied to hideandshoot's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Far too many ferrets being bred... I remember a time,..(after the myxy) when most lads had said goodbye to their ferrets,..when a good genuine working line was almost impossible to locate... This situation continued year in, year out, for a very long time... Nowadays, we have the luxury of seeing plentiful supplies of these wonderful wee hunters, .there is no shortage of kits. That being said, I would urge folk to think carefully if they really do have the facilities for finding genuine homes for their young ferrets, before embarking on breeding projects. I remember s -
Exercising lurchers during the summer
Phil Lloyd replied to Caravan Monster's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If you can get near to some water, river, lake or the sea,..there is nothing better for dogs, than a wee bit of splashing around and gentle swimming. Great exercise,..safe on the joints and muscles, and seems to really relax, even the most vigorous and active jukel. -
Goodonya Caravan Monster Super, informative and honestly accurate post there fellah...
