  1. Locally,..we did have a pair of cats that had been released by a travelling Circus/Fair outfit... Te Circus did not have the required 'paper work' for the Lynx-like critters, and simply set them free Obviously,..men that are out and about, after dark, were sure to run into them,...and , we did... It was emotional....
  2. The Burger now 'sleeps wid da fishes'....
  3. Great to see all your work come to fruition,..some nice retrieves,..but don't overdo it... The squeaky hamburger is great for getting a dog's attention,...but, now you have got the bitch into the swing of things,..fetching real pretty,.I would maybe cut out the squeaker.. I know it is a superb training aid,...and obviously achieved the desired result...so, maybe change the dummy object..The gal has to squeaze and nip Big Mac, in order to get the squeak reward,.if she tries that business with a live and kicking rabbit,.well,.it could get,.emotional Just my thoughts , and I might
  4. Personaly,..I believe this was one of the best pop songs ever written... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxoke4yuWlI&feature=player_detailpage
  5. What about wind velocity,...have you taken that into account...
  6. Certain lines of whippets (and the lurcher hybrids created from them),..seem to have the pricked ears.. Personaly I like to see a Pedigree whippet with nice tight 'rose ears' ,.but aesthetics aside,..when them auld ears go up,..it is often a definite sign, that they have locked on to a target and the game is on Whatever,..they are beautiful wee speedsters, and very effective at what they do... All the best, CW..
  7. Well,..the auld lurcher has not been ruined for me...not at all... Other than accidents,..I don't hunt deer or hares anymore,..the rabbiting game will see me out.. Lads that want to use their dogs, on other quarry, will do so, regardless of any foolish bans and suchlike.. Personaly, I think lads are far more educated as regards feeding, housing and conditioning their dogs, than when I was a boy...Nowadays, there is no excuse for acting like a c**t and ill-treating jukels,.or ferrets, etc,.. I can't wait to get back out there , working up the rough, hunting through the woods,
  8. The best Deerhound lurchers that I have owned/seen,...all looked and acted, as though they wanted to do the job, at a fairly early age.. It was plainly obvious that these beauties fancied having a pop,.especially at the Roe... When this occurs, it is easy just sitting back and waiting for the Kraken within, to awaken... The type needs a wee bit of time to physically mature,.and then,.let the fun begin...
  9. Would agree with you there 100% fellah... For us, 'darn sarf',..Bill sure is the kiddie, when it comes to the rabbiting nets
  10. Good to see Hunting Life members meeting up, and enjoying the craic... THIS is what the Internet Forums should be for....
  11. This is a cross that has proved successful for our rabbit work, in the brash and woods...
  12. A valid point there Birddog...
  13. iworkwhippets quote,.. 'When i say i work my dogs daily, i mean just that, winter or summer, rabbits only. the only times we stay in is if its slatting it down, like yesterday, i never push my dogs, they ask to go out, so they go out, a good nights kip is all thats required as regards rest, i put the work in front of them, and they take it, and yes they miss as well, to me its bordering on cruelty not to work your dog, regularly, my dogs live for it, and so do i, as for grub, they get better grub than me, they are both flat out, in their kennel at the moment, i wont here a peep from them
  14. Fabulous,.love to see it.... A whippet and a ferret,....what great times lay ahead
  15. Maybe enquire at the nearest Race Track and find out who they use... Best of luck to you,....CW.. PS, and remember, when a knowing vet, says rest, he fecking means, 100% REST....
  16. Sensible comments... Stayed amongst various semi-Nomadic folk,..their dogs are essential, for what they need
  17. The approval amendment,..stipulates the BMI 55 as being suitable for mice,.however, I would not take this wording,.. literally. Some of the UK trapping legislation is a tad confusing.... Purpose made, mouse traps are usually favourite , for mice...
  18. Fair play to the young fellow... He is obviously doing his best.. He is,... what he is,..... no need to be cruel.... 'Live and Let Live',.eh...
  19. It all sounds incredibly complicated...
  20. Personaly,..I like to start with a pup... Obviously this is ALWAYS a gamble, as opposed to buying in a 'made dog',.but,.I much prefer it.. Sometimes you win,...and everything works out fine,..but occasionally,.. things don't go to plan.. Not all our geese can become swans,...however,. I try my hardest with each new pup.... IF it doesn't work out, I usually give the youngster to a less demanding home,...they deserve that at least...
  21. Well Tiercel,..I've also been around lurchers for a long time,...and although you possibly deserve a medal for trying,...the truth is,.. it is virtually impossible, to seriously 'talk dogs' on the Internet.... You have to go with the flow,..for, there really is, no fighting it... Its all,....just for the craic.... All the best, CW...
