Dogs Bred From Snipe

You can only get a merle coloured animal,. from a Merle... -
Feck me,.. Catching the odd mole by his flipper, is an awful,.(but mercifully rare occurrence)......however,... you seem to have made a fecking career out of it

Anyone Run/ran Reverse 3/4 Collie X Greyhound
Phil Lloyd replied to BORDERSCOT's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Them days are long gone Andy,... WE are not the same men,..and therefore, our dogs will never be tested, night after night,..after fecking night... On a wet old day, when I cannot be arsed to slop around in the mud, setting mole traps,..I sometimes glance through the old diaries..They make for interesting reading...and in truth, the events described within, leave me speechless,... and mentally exhausted.... Where did all those years go...? Look after Don.... -
Registerd Mole Catcher's Code Of Conduct
Phil Lloyd replied to Probuk's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Hi Marty,..quite a few lads have joined up, to the various Mole Hunters, Clubs, Societies,..Forums, etc.. We all have our reasons for doing so...but, the choice of trap for the job is entirely a personal one. It would not be a popular move, to dictate to trappers, which traps, or style of traps to use... I would have none of that... As a Mole Catcher,...I tend to use the type of trap, that suits the ground I am working on, at the time... The bottom line is, if it works, then use it, ..but, it often pays to 'suck it and see',..then go with your heart... All the best, and g -
True,... Bull blood lurchers ,..if bred right,..are often superbly capable hunters,..they can definitely find their quarry,..and when they do.....
-
Deer seem to have that effect on many lurchers, derived from Pastoral/Herding types.... I've owned one or two lurchers, that after a few seasons on the rabbits, began to get a wee bit bored with the game. Yet, when a Roe jumped,..it was lights on again,..and they turned into killing machines,...

Anyone Run/ran Reverse 3/4 Collie X Greyhound
Phil Lloyd replied to BORDERSCOT's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Hi,..I have been out with a few of this breeding,..and although they had merit,..I found when used localy,.they were not suitable for the task in hand, at that point in time.. Nice animals though,.very responsive, easy to school and great fun to be with.. My good friend DC has a real powerful 3/4 Kelpie x Greyhound, and is extremely impressed with the dog's attitude... To produce such a rarity, requires some degree of faith in the end product, and in my opinion,..that particular hybridisation was a success. As a Moucher, he created what he required.. who can really ask for mor -
You little show pony Sirius..

Perhaps its an age thing,..or me, simply getting soft,...I don't know ? Truth is,..I now keep dogs,..which a few years ago,..I would definitely not have entertained.... Back in the day,..my hunting life seemed so serious, and I was ultra-critical of a dogs failings.. Nowadays,..I know that my current stock is not top class or earth shattering,.but,.feck it, so what,.. I get by.

A Passion For Coursing The Next Book
Phil Lloyd replied to northantscourser's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
That is a good question fellah,..and deserving of an answer.... I'm not much of a writer,..I'm a Mole Trapper/Rabbiter ; I work for the gold doubloons, but, also enjoy the weekend craic with like minded souls,..always have, always will. The writing game is pretty straight forward, it is no mystery.... Years ago,..before the advent of the Internet,...it was a difficult thing for 'lads like us',..to get published. Folk that were, in the know, kept things very much to themselves and for many lads, the idea of 'doing a book',..simply was not feasible. There has always been, wha -

Yeah, it was no big deal,.but the spike went up into the muscle for a fair way and I lost my marking dog for a full week ... I cannot afford to lose her during March /April,..so I think you are right,...shake rattle and roll,...that is obviously the way forward,...I'll pass that info, onto the speckled whippet..
-
I've not had a lot to do with Muntjac,...they are bit of a mystery,... But,..my wee ferreting dog had an encounter, with a large Buck recently and I was surprised just how determined and wriggly they can be.
-
Would have to agree Pernod.. Deer,..of whatever species, can be a fecking nuisance... There is a time and a place, for all things,..and it is favourite, to be able to pick that time and not have it thrust upon ya

Cracking images,...I love to see the chavies out after the rabbits,...makes me feel young ...

I am certainly no authority on the GSD lurcher hybrids,... I chose to follow the path of my Father and Grandfather and instead, I went down the Sheepdog/Cattle Dog route...BUT,.I have always rated these wolfish dogs, as being superlative hunters... Walked out with a few nice examples of this type, and I would have to echo the words of the previous poster GSD lurchers are much the same as Collie hybrids,.."when they are good, they are VERY good, and when they are bad, they are.....
-
Nowadays,..I don't really push my dogs too hard,..just a wee bit of mouching,..etc... But, back in the day,..I was always a firm believer in getting them out young,...they learn nothing sitting in the yard.. Glancing at my hunting diaries from the 70s,..I was amazed at how early we were running the lurchers, under the lamp.. My written comments from each nights, walk out on the stubble's, were quite shocking.. I expected a lot from young, immature animals,..but, due to their upbringing in the woods and forest,..I invariably got a result. If I ever get myself another pup,.
-
Likewise,..only I will be trapping and snaring on several local farms,....I don't keep any ferrets....
-
There are still a few of these, look-a-likes, mouching around.....

DanW pretty much summed up how I feel about this and time and time again I've clashed with these Warrener wannabe types on here (Riflemen and dogmen). I haven't read the article so can't comment on Nimrod's specific words and I am not anti-fox control even hough my main interest is hunting with hounds. If a gamekeeper controls foxes on his land that's his job and his choice about how he does the job, trapping, terriers, night shooting etc are all legal effective weapons in his armoury. If a farmer keeps losing lambs, fowls then the same thing applies he has every right to do what he chooses to

Personaly,...unless you are going to have editorial control...( and trust me, you fecking won't)....I would avoid getting filmed killing goats....or in fact, killing anyfeckingthing... I've been on a few good earners in my time,.and by and large, I don't regret it,.but,.. I have also appeared in one or two 'howlers' ,.mostly well pissed or high as a kite, for various reasons,.. ..and oh Boy,..have I lived to regret it.... You must go where your heart leads you,..but for your famile's sake,.think very carefully, before pulling that trigger.. All the best, Chalkwarren..

Seen a few German Shepherd x Greyhounds,...we had them local, in the Forest, plus a few more in Bedfordshire,.'Munty Land'...
