  1. Pleased you liked the Dwarfs Dave,.. All the best, Chalkwarren.......
  2. You know what,...these jukels are experienced catchers of rabbits,..but,..I bet the pair of them could have been trained to chase the lure ...... They love to run.....
  3. I lagree with you, and as I stated in one of my earlier replies, I believe it should be made a legal requirement. Fair play, goodonya...
  4. Hi Ideation,..good to hear your words... In my opinion,..there is no such thing as a 'working lurcher show'.... And personally, if any dog that had undergone a few seasons mouching, net guarding, pheasant pegging or deer pulling, still wanted to chase a 'Fairy Liquid ' bottle dragged along a race track, amidst a bunch of screaming , half wit jukels, well, I would feel a tad disappointed ... But, each to their fecking own....
  5. Seen a fair few Bilko blooded dogs Charti,...and yes, technically,.. ..they were lurchers, running dogs, whatever,...BUT,..in my opinion,..the lurcher RACING that we see today at the various country shows, is a comical sight and stars flight away, from dog racing proper. I still have good old pals, that own Racing Champions,..some even have Supreme Racing Champions,..and for them to turn up at a lurcher show, and run their purpose bred speedsters against the shaggy Smithfield and the Deerhound x Collie whatever,.over a few hundred yards,..simply to win a silly plastic trophy, would seem a
  6. Needless cruelty and feckwit behaviour,...can come in any colour lads,....
  7. As modern trappers, it is our duty to minimise the suffering, of our chosen target species, be it a rat or a rabbit.. In my opinion,.the particular style of killing traps that we are talking about,.are best checked DAILY
  8. That is a difficult one,....maybe about,..£3.50... depending on the buyer...
  9. Well aware of that fella,... I just don't like to watch, a sea of jukels, all chomping into a screaming porker,...the New Zealand boys, step in with a knife, and get it done and dusted,...(I freely admit,.I ain't been no angel myself, over the years),..but, such a performance ain't to my taste...End of story....
  10. I often went out with my Father, laying Gins for rabbits... the traps were set in the mouths of burrows, and did not 'jump up' in the manner of the Fenn. Trapping rabbits for us, was akin to farm labouring (as was the ferreting) and it was often hard, dirty work, more so in the wet and cold weather. The Gin was an extremely efficient trap for catching rabbits,.but unfortunately, it was not a humane tool to work with
  11. That was a good answer there Andy..
  12. Absolutely beautiful ....
  13. Don't care about bouncers,..feck making life hard,..catch'em,. kill'em,..sell 'um,..end of story...
  14. That old dark brindle jukel,.. seems real familiar....
  15. I've walked out with both names mentioned ,...sad to hear, that one has done the other, a bad turn..
  16. A good historical thread, exclusive and unique to, The Hunting Life... All the best,.. and good hunting,..Chalkwarren...
  17. Fair enough, but the mere fact that you guys are having your say on here,..is streets ahead of what me (and a few other, amatuer wordsmiths) had to contend with, in the 's into the early 90's.... You should be free, to ask your questions...and folk are free,... to choose, to ignore them..
  18. what about others that knew plummer was a con and said nothing and only basked in the glory of being in his books no names mentioned like but its funny how they didnt come to the fore all them years ago to say plummer was really fiction writer lol..... Back in the day,..there was no chance of having your say 'in print',..there was no Internet forums, and no chance of righting wrongs,...Them as were in fashion, had total control, of how things went down, and it took some time to get a voice, and by then, it was far too late,..the dye had been cast... But,..hopefully today, we have freed
  19. Criticism is part and parcel of the writing game,...and you learn to live with it...
  20. I don't think that is a hypothetical question Boyo,..it is a perfectly feasible one...
  21. I have always found the genuine'first cross' ,..twixt a whippet,. and a Collie, to be a difficult hybrid to get , 'just right'....
  22. None left here fellah,..all gone after Xmas,.done and dusted,.spent every penny on wine, women and Jalfrezis
