  1. Hello Baw,... Personaly,..I prefer a lurcher that exhibits the traits of a pastoral type... I don't need a herder,... ..but,.I do require a fair amount of tractability and obedience from a canine helper. Some lads become bogged down with all this Collie Lurcher business. This has possibly occurred, due to the plethora of literature that has been penned, extolling their virtues, over the last few decades. I prefer a canny lurcher,.one that can twig onto a situation, sort things out and react accordingly,... I need a worker that can cast out, hunt up and find his own quarry ...
  2. In my opinion,...Lurchers open up for various reasons... It is easy, to categorise the causes, and keep on quoting the obvious,...but, speaking personally,..over the years,.I have run dogs at a very young age,.hunted them in dense woodland,...let them loose on the lamp,...slipped them after hares, deers, and many other critters, (both wild and domestic), that could be sold for a profit,..and they have never made a murmer... Corrispondingly,..I have also held them back,..waited patiently, until well grown, kept them out of the brash and forest floor,..made doubly sure that they could run li
  3. Facts are,...all things being equal,..if you can school a jukel,...then, you can school a jukel,..end of story...
  4. Well said Wilf.... For every East End family that encountered such folk and thought them to be, 'proper diamond geezers' or salt of the earth types,.there were plenty of others, that feared them...
  5. @ Wilf,... It is good to have a dream
  6. This dog was bred locally, back in the day,..he killed most critters that he encountered...
  7. It was an extremely cruel and inhumane poison,..I'm glad that it is gone...
  8. Been singing from that same hymn sheet, since the 1980s,..so I doubt things are gonna change now..

  10. "If I only knew then,.what I know now".. Wish I could go back to those days....
  11. Used it,..hated it,.. Trapping is, and always has been,.. my prefered choice....
  12. This is an interesting subject.. I'm just a moucher/ferreter,..so I don't need super lurcher,...but, I have found, that 'train-ability' is not exclusive to seemingly brainy dogs,..and 'tractability' (and a willingness, to accept training and instruction),..is often found in several types of dog, that one might not think were obviously canny,.. or sagacious ....
  13. Please give us poor elderly folk, an honest account of the contents,..if it is educational,.I shall start saving for a copy. Many thanks,.Chalkwarren..

  17. Well done fellah,..I've taken thousands of moles,.but never caught a whitey,...probably never will
  18. Whatever the physical,.or mental problem is,..the poor fecker seems to be, lost,.. in a world of fear.. Dogs,.no matter how bright, clever or seemingly sagacious they appear,..cannot reason... They cannot ask the question, why,.and definitely cannot figure out what it is, that is causing them grief.. That is where a caring, knowledgeable handler comes in,..and in order to sort out difficult dogs, you need to look at the situation from the canines point of view, not a human's... To do anything else,.. is illogical... Long and short of it is,...some folk just ain't suited to d
  19. Now that is an excellant example, of a Brindle Merle,...she should do quite nicely...
