JMHO but they look like another litter (especially with the price) of pups that will see a dozen homes before their second birthday. Hope I'm wrong.

Everyone agrees on different methods and levels of exercise to get a dog fit enough for a day or nights work but IMO the first thing to do before starting is to ensure the dog is wormed and de-flead. Also the dogs diet is as important as the level of exercise it gets. Anyone can stick a dog on a lead and set of but it's no accident that usually the man with constantly good dogs also knows every aspect of conditioning.

It's well done Rob, I presume it came of a farm, or are Grey foxes common your way ?

Doomed Generation!!!
neil cooney replied to Tomhill131's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
It's a good question. Kids nowadays will gladly sit at a computer pressing buttons and blowing human images on a screen to pieces. Show them a slice of lambs liver and ask them do they want some, they'll nearly faint. Even kids living in the country nowadays don't know where milk or eggs come from. On the fishing forum on here a lad showed some kids enjoying a successful days fishing. I commented that I hope they helped with the cleaning and cooking. Someone commented "FFS they're only kids". Seems even those who hunt (or say they do )are getting far removed from where our food comes fr -
So they're gay........................that's just disgusting.

Your right Marshman , it has been slow of recent on here. I mentioned this one before but what the hell. There was four of us out one day when we pulled up at a gate way where there was an earth just one small field in of the road. I said I'd run across and if the terrier looked keen I'd give the signal to bring in the 2 lurchers. I ran across with a little black bitch called Skip running loose beside me. In a second she was to ground and had 3 foxes bolted. I ran back and the lads said to me "empty ?" "It is now" I replied.

Piggy style.

Most dogs that get stolen are sold on because there's a big market out there. So if your the sort of person who'll buy a dog without caring about the dogs background or history then you might be helping the stolen dog market. I would think that covers around 90% of lurcher owners.

The slugs will always be coming so to use a wormer that covers Lungworm is just if not more important than trying to drown slugs in beer, What a way to go !!!!

In hindsight, it's a big pity it wasn't the American Staffordshire that landed in the hands of the messers and macho men and left the bulldog in the hands of those who knew him.

I wouldn't put anything past a vixen when rearing cubs. They're great providers and if other food sources are scarce then I would believe cannibalism would be an option even if the fox probably was a roadkill.

It is a Herring Gull which I wouldn't have thought was possible. But that's opportunists for you.

WOW, I wasn't expecting that. Reminds me of years ago walking along side the combine for the last acre of corn, but that was for a fox or a rabbit, not a whole herd of swine.

True Skycat, to see a class of Salukis in a KC show would surprise manys a coursing man, also have you ever seen a hound trail ? I can understand why some handlers keep a jacket on their hounds to keep them covered up and yet these hounds can do many miles at full speed, unbelievable. But, in this day and age keeping dogs like such can get you a knock on the door and the so called experts will judge a dog to be neglected. IMO all working dogs should be kept light with the exception of the working terrier who IMO should have a pound or two on him because of the threat of maybe getting lost t

Definitely no boxer in there. The first breed recognized by the U.K.C. was the APBT, in fact it was set up to register the APBT. But down through the years American dog men called them everything from Bulldogs, Pitbulls, staffs and am staffs. Joe Corvino used to advertise his as American Staffordshires and many of todays Bulldogs have his blood in them. But as has been said todays American Staffordshire Bull Terrier is the show bred variety and is definitely a big NO to breed lurchers from. You might be better of using a boxer, LOL.

Seems to be a few lads gone but there's also a lot of newbys just joined and asking a lot of greenhorn questions. Seems to happen this time every year just before the Autumn. Some might be genuine, as for the others ???

Skycat, your dogs are spoilt, simple as that, LOL.

Most lurchers IMO are one man dogs which makes it all the bigger a shame that they seem to be the most swapped around type of dog. But in my opinion if your dog is used to your brother and lamps for him but during the day where she can be her own boss then she's just trying it on with him.

Its not just unfair to lump Steroids and Synthol together its completely wrong !...........To get the best from steroids you must train HARDER......to get the best from synthol you dont have to train at all. This is the sloppy disgusting arm of a small minded fool who wants attention but has no guts/dedication/work ethic This is an arm which comes from great genetics, years of hard work/dedication/knowledge People who inject synthol are an enemy to any true bodybuilder as they are ridiculing those who work hard for real gains and are passionate about their hobby. Badger Bill Of Durham - Border Terrier
neil cooney replied to davinci's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
There was another type of certificate here in Ireland given to terriers (strong dogs and sounders) and the terrier had to pass a certain test in front of two judge and many spectators. If your terrier was not up to the job (on that particular day) he was soon found out and there was no cert. Simple as that. This much coveted cert did a lot to enhance the working ability of some breeds , especially the strong dogs. Mind you, it did also help some lads make a lot of money from their dogs but such was the way back then. The Certificate issued by the MFHs was however totally at the Masters -
Badger Bill Of Durham - Border Terrier
neil cooney replied to davinci's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Working Certificates used to be signed by Master of Foxhounds to say that a terrier had worked with a hunt. I could be wrong but I think the terrier needed to work a couple of times and just what defines work done by a terrier ? Some terriers got certified for doing 5 minutes or standing back barking. They've been controversial enough over the years. Some reckon that MFHs would issue them to anyone or just their mates. Some reckon they were a great way of boosting the value of the certified dogs pups or stud fee. I think it's widely agreed now that they were highly sought after by those who -
Very nice, I hope they helped out with the cleaning and cooking.
