  1. It was quiet interesting how at one time they wouldn't target Blue and Grey whales because they sunk when dead but then learned how to blow air into them to keep them afloat. Then the evolution of the new harpoon with the explosive tip. The footage of the whaler shooting the elephant seal from a few feet away was stern stuff. I'm surprised they didn't bring them to the brink too as they are the only seals that don't slip into the water when approached.
  2. Seen it. Very good insight into a part of Britains past that I'd say they're a little bit embarrassed about. It's amazing too just how much that we depended on the whale back in those days.
  3. . Well spotted sir. Also the front row second furthest away but bad picture dont really show it. Looking at the pic i think they just might be gathering up Hard to say but one thing I think it's safe to say is that for that era they're probably not Welsh crosses, LOL.
  4. Could be wrong, but the near hound in the group sitting at the back looks like one.
  5. I once read a book similar to yours, bout a Welsh bloke who lamped a whole load of foxes as they came to feed on a farm midden pile. Nailed 3 or 4 most night's, so the book said. In the snow too. The action must have been fast and furious as he was rarely photographed wearing a coat. Though it must have been cold, them foxes looked stiff as boards. All done with a 'ol mottled marked cur cross. If I could just remember that books title.... LOL, I remember that well. Two foot of snow and he in his slippers, the start of a legacy.
  6. Gasman, when sold years later first editions always make the better price. Personally I don't collect books to sell, I collect them to keep.
  7. I'm glad John did the 2nd edition because I wouldn't have got a copy otherwise. Hard to believe the 1st edition is already 12 years old. A lot of the lads that are in the book might not mean a whole lot to younger fanciers but IMO John went for the cream as there is a wealth of knowledgeable and experienced terriermen in it. A very good book in my opinion.
  8. R.A.W. you should call that last picture "All on Sir".
  9. If it is true then it's a case of bait being left out for birds of prey. They've been calling for prosecutions so let there be prosecutions. Should be interesting.
  10. Couldn't have been a stag from the Phoenix Park.
  11. Blackdog can you tell by looking at a terrier or by it's colour if it's soft as shite or hard or whatever ? It must be a very handy gift to have when it comes to picking a pup from a litter.
  12. Now that is early, obviously the wet but warm conditions are to blame. Lovely.
  13. Did you do much hunting with Mr Gould in the 80s and 90s Stop End ?
  14. Artic Weasel, that is some of the worst advise I've ever seen on this forum, and that's saying something. What your saying is that the dog by tripping itself up and standing on a rope that the other end is around it's neck it will lead train itself ???????????? Think long and hard about your advise. Fay, if the pup is nervous because it's last owner made it that way then you have some chance with a bit of love and kindness. If it was born nervous, well, IMO there are no room for nerves of any sort in ANY working dog. Don't confuse a dog that's suspicious of strangers with nerves. Two d
  15. A fin perfect trout like that I'd say some people are spoiling their dogs.
  16. Come to think of it Bob, I seen that too. I got the impression that he was making a mountain out of a mole hill.
  17. She was also 3 months pregnant.
  18. Was it something like Toxic-plasmosis Pete ?? Not sure I've spelt it correctly but a farmer I worked for had a problem with cats pissing in his hay which caused 100 ewes to abort their lambs that particular year. It's also the same reason that pregnant women are advised not to do any gardening, or at least wear gloves, as it can be transmitted to people. As for the wee terrier ? Admit it, you let it sit on your lap every night feeding it biscuits while watching your soaps, LOL.
  19. Treadmills are for building up a dogs wind and when used badly can do more harm than good. But when used wisely can be a great job. You wont get the same result with road walking or beside a bike that you will with a mill, but like I said, only when it's used correctly. Also, as someone said they're handy when it's raining but the fact is that your still going to get wet as you should always walk a dog before and after he goes on a mill.
