  1. Years ago when I had no transport of my own I was offered a lift to a terrier show in Drogheda by a Dublin man who would be passing my house. With him he had the smartest looking Black Fell you would have ever seen. It was a beauty. He soon sold it for £ which was nice money in the late 80s. As soon as he sold it he turned to me and said "glad that's gone, it's half Schnauzer." I looked every where for the new owner to tell him he'd been robbed but didn't find him. I'd have been walking home if I did find him, but what the hell. The dog game sure is full of bullshitters but at least th
  2. They'd get £600 a pup if they stuck a stupid name on them, something like Patt-a-poo or Poodledale or if it's out of a Black Fell call it a Black Poo. I hope nobody starts joking about Chocolate-Poos. I hope this is a wind up ?
  3. I blame the game dealers. The market for No Questions asked venison has exploded and it's bringing out the cowboys. Lads who a couple of years ago didn't know a red squirrel from a red stag are now getting swifts or .223s etc. and shooting deer where ever they are. Where these cowboys go the Wildlife Rangers are not far behind and it's ruining it for the lads who've hunted the area all their lives. There's even a cowboy advertising "stalking" on the net and is bringing out customers on land he has no permission on. He's had the shite kicked out of him at least twice by the locals. The la
  4. I once subscribed to "Full Cry" for a year and have to say I enjoyed it. It's a great insight into following hounds on different quarry in the U.S. of A. There was a brilliant photo in it once of a lion at bay on a pinnacle shaped rock by 5 Plotts. The writer commented that after the photo was taken the lion got of the rock and killed a few of the hounds.
  5. Even better, hope they go well for you.
  6. I've tried that also to no avail. You seen the dam work, a black bitch called Roma. She was the same very sick when travelling in boxes or cages but no sickness at all if let run free in back of van. No doubt this dog has inherited it from her. I remember Roma, a very good bitch indeed.
  7. Best of luck and nice kennels. Are they all drafts ?
  8. neil my bros own dog caught that along the comber greenway and when he went to the vets, the vet said all them places like the greenway and stormont was just dog sewers and he had quite a lot of cases in his clinic, he said where people walk their dogs in the hundreds every day defacating all over the place it's no wonder he's making a fortune I would believe that but I keep away from such places. There's not many places around me that would have lots of dogs around. Even though my dog's inoculated the vet said it was probably rats and I'm blaming the harvest (it was 5 weeks ago) and there
  9. Five weeks ago I was in England for a few days and when I got home my daughter told me that the lurcher hadn't eaten up. The next day she was still of her grub so I had a look at her and noticed a yellow colour coming on her gums so I got her to the vets straight away. She's inoculated but was in the early stages of jaundice. Two days and four IV drips later she was out of danger. However, in the nearest town a vet had rang my vet to tell them that they'd had several cases of jaundice from the village I live in and a couple of dogs had to be put down as a result. Samples were taken of one
  10. It's not a problem I've ever had with any dogs but I do know a lot of the show fraternity put a lot of newspaper on the floor of the dogs traveling crate to prevent travel sickness. I'm told it works.
  11. Is that the same Netherlands that have the very liberal laws on the sex industry and legalised drugs ? Funny country.
  12. yeh fookn'hell they reckon the tiger is the most powerful of all the big cats , lion 2nd etc. I wonder if the bloke had try to hit before would it have pissed off , or just kill him there+then .? by the look of the vid he was dead, once him round the neck ,prob snapped it like a twig There was a child killed during the week by a tiger in a Chinese zoo and eye witnesses said the child struggled for 15 minutes while the tiger had him by the throat.
  13. Feck, I'm only after seeing that it's on this evening. I presumed it was on tomorrow, as per usual. Lucky.
  14. Can't wait. Any earths checked in the morning will be shallow. I aint getting stuck at a hole and missing this match.
  15. November, December and January will be the months for fur and there's talk of 30 euro for fox, 20 for mink. Snaring for the fox and trapping for mink will probably be the most practical methods although there will be lads out with small rifles trying for a few foxes at night as I presume the bigger calibers will do too much damage. There's also talk of the buyers giving demonstrations on how to correctly skin them. I hope the game dealers don't get behind this as some of them seem to be dubious. They've recently asked some lads who have permits to sell venison to be the middle man and buy
  16. I hate to say this but the market is opening back up in fox and mink. They reckon the quality in Ireland is some of the best in Europe. If the trade takes off it will bring the chancers and cowboys out of the woodwork the same as the venison trade has. There'll be a lot of unchecked snares left around the Irish countryside and I truly hope the fur trade doesn't take off again.
  17. Well since we're boasting I once did 90 days straight, was I sick of it ? Not a chance.
  18. I'd still go for the coursing blood Max but English if there's any pure English left. Your right in that the Irish lines can be massive as they're bred for park coursing but a lot of todays trackers don't chase. Yes they're fast but a lot of them are not putting it in. Some lads blame the introduction of Australian blood. Personally I always admired the smaller English type coursing greyhound that was more suited to open coursing.
  19. JMHO but one of the main reasons a bull outcross has been used in the last 20 or so years by some of the big names is because they don't have to go to a terrierman for the lining. If you bring a bitch of your line to a dog of another mans line the resulting litter is 50% the other mans hard work, pride and joy, call it what you want but it's 50% his. So some of the big names, when needed, used an outcross of a pure staff, pit bull or in one case I know, miniature English bull and they can and do lay claim that the line of terrier is still theirs. That's a fact.
  20. Money is not really a problem for me. I would like to know how to become a master or huntsman. People with money usually already know the answers to your questions. Have fun.
  21. A few years back we got a new load of scaffold just after been shipped in from Dubai. I broke the bands on the first pallets load and turned one of the scaffold tubes upright. The whole inside of the tube was full of those bad boys in your photo. Luckily all were dead, from the cold I presume. Quiet intimidating, even when dead, LOL.
  22. "Todhunter and the fox" (The Blencathra) is being re-released on DVD and is worth a watch IMO.
