  1. The whole reason the red fox thrived in Australia and became such a pest was because he found the slow moving Marsupials easy to catch, that and some flightless species of bird. When the rabbit was introduced it must have felt like Butlins to them, they were no longer the bottom of the food chain. On this side of the world the fox is too much of an omnivorous survivor to have all his eggs in the one basket. He gets by. Species like the stoat however do rely on a healthy rabbit population.
  2. I would think (but I could be wrong) that the happiest person to see it gone was the man himself. And Pablo.
  3. Well spotted lads, great to see. I was talking to our club chairman last night and he reckons we'll be lucky to get hens for release this year. Nobody seems to have any for sale. They seem to be holding on to them for breeding.
  4. Swallows are starting to trickle in but no House Martins yet.
  5. Listen to this version all the way to the end.
  6. You hit it at the right time Fatman, a mate was on it the day before and had one fish for his day and lost another, but he got it on a fly. There was a competition on my local river yesterday and it was won with 3 brownies for over 10 lbs. Hard to believe there's such fish in a small river.
  7. Nettles at this time of year are at the worst. Young ,fresh green nettles sure do sting. To become immune to nettles it takes nettles, LOL. Think about it, if you don't hunt or such for a while nettle stings will hurt but if you're out every day you can handle them.
  8. That set up looks familiar. Back in those days done one night and one night only with a lad who had a car battery attached to a piece of plywood with straps on it that attached at the front like an old school satchel. We were being chased one night and I slipped under a gate but when he went to slip under the gate this thing on his back, sticking out about 15'' of his back got stuck and he nearly got caught. Thank God for the new smaller set ups.
  9. Turn it up to 10.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV4oYkIeGJc
  10. Great band, they also done a great cover of Genesis's "World of Confusion.". Better than the original IMO.
  11. The only assumption I'd make about that place is that roots shouldn't be a problem. Bloody roots.
  12. Nice to see a happy ending. It became law last week in the R.O.I. to ensure your dogs are micro-chipped. Our local radio ,LMFM, gave the anti Bernie Wright her couple of minutes airtime and she said more or less that micro-chipping will be great to see as it should end the abandonment and cutting off of ears on racing and coursing greyhounds. No mention of other types, just greyhounds. It's a pity her likes get their two minutes of fame and it's a pity that the stupid actions of one Moran dirty a whole sport.
  13. I've had similar Taz. One lad was coming out to me from Dublin when some other lads asked him where he was going and they came with him. So it ended up that 4 lads, 7 lurchers and one small Jack Russell came for a hunt. We were digging to one of my terriers and I looked up and here the lads had a line formed across the field and were walking it for a hare. I do not miss those days.
  14. Was that the Eel net I lent to you a few years back .
  15. They do know the truth about the cruelty of life itself. Their argument has nothing to do with cruelty................if truth be known.
  16. Looking at it again I presume that's a fantail or white pigeon it has killed, so size wise I'd say Sparrowhawk.
  17. As soon as I seen it I thought female Sparrowhawk but we don't have Goshawks. Very bold markings on the breast.
  18. When the lads I know were working in Dublin Zoo some b*****d broke in one night and threw some penguins into the lion enclosure. They said the lions didn't go near them.
  19. Are they really the pest they're said to be ? When I look at a picture like that I'm just licking my lips. We still have our native Crayfish but they're getting rare.
  20. PP I had to sort it with the gun in the end.
  21. Probably going South for the Winter, bloody immigrants.
  22. I could never see that taking off over here. If the Gards raided a fight it's not like you could stick it under your arm and leg it, .
