  1. EErm....I don't think thats an Emperor matey... My guess is a male Common hawker... Outstanding photo!
  2. You need to be alot more careful where your pups go in future.....i hate hearing stories like this....poor pups.
  3. Aye, he's bang-on is Craig......great lad with great photos...
  4. It has been illegal for a long time. Despite of several attempts to get it legalised the 'let's shoot a swan on the canal with the crossbow' brigade have left a long-lasting legacy. Bowhunting won't be allowed again I shouldn't think, and that's a crying shame as it is a lethal, skillful and exciting method of harvesting game.
  5. Why? Ive seen carp, roach, tench and perch all kept in living room set ups. As a rule of thumb though, the bigger and better your kit, the happier and healthier your fish. I wouldnt try eating them though as I was speaking to a fish keeper who has some really big tropical fish, he`s having problems trying to rehome and when I suggested knocking them on the head and feeding to the cat, he told me the nitrates build up in the flesh and make the fish inedible. With all due respect, you cannot compare a brown trout to those fish mentioned. IMO.
  6. More commonly known in the game as 'The Vapourer' he will probably spin-up a cocoon very shortly...the thing about this moth is that the females don't fly. they are big, bulbous sort of critters, and just give off pheremones to attract a male. Once shagged she will lay eggs on her own cocoon before kicking the bucket...i've bred them a few times.
  7. Does anyone have a link to the dog harnesses.
  8. The thing is, we should never, ever, compare this to true coursing. They are running captive-held hares. This is not, IMO, hunting. True coursing men only run wild hares on their own ground. That's my take on things.....but it's nice historical footage, so thanks for sharing it......
  9. As others have said, there's nowt wrong with that dog. I wouldn't worry about her mate, but, just for the record, the best thing for puttign weight on dogs is lamb ribs in my experience. She looks in fine fettle.
  10. About 10 years ago, they used to love the younger leaves on my grape vine. I was aware that the leaves were getting munched, but didn't know the culprits. I then started finding 'pellets' on the table, and wondered what was leaving them, sometimes there would be 8-10. I only found out by going out in the very early hours (darkness) with a small torch, and it was like 'come dine with me'. You wouldn't believe how quickly the EHM can devour young grape leaves, small wonder they were dropping all those pellets. Could never spot them during daylight. I had to renew the covered pergola roof and
  11. Not really on the quiet matey......I've bred all the larger moth species in the Uk for successive generations and a few migrants as well.... And dabbled with my fair share of flutterbyes too......A few years back i posted lots and lots of pics of their development on here....
  12. Lets hope that any new legislation is drawn up with involvement from people who are trying to defend us.
  13. It's an american goldfinch pal......
  14. they will be a moth next year, they will form a pupa and overwinter until next may/june
  15. Yeppers..its a EHM looking fro somewhere to pupate. Put it on some waste ground matey....
  16. I always thought that, looking back, there was always more bad years than good years...or is that just down to british bird breeders being miserable so and so's..
  17. Me like....though you should have said 'this lady'.....as I think it might be of the fairer sex...
  18. No probs buddy...I'm wrong, you're right... all the best.
  19. I'm not saying that. Please don't put words in my mouth. I do know what I'm talking about matey, otherwise I would not be giving advice that could effect a life. I was speaking from experience. That's all.
  20. The last birds I had to hand rear was a few treecreepers that some kids had disturbed the nest of, ripping dead bark from trees....
