  1. IMO the CWD are not good travellers. They are all along the coast now, and while we could surmise that this is due to them spreading we could also be down to being transported by humans like they have done everywhere else. yes, there will be CWD further north of the Humber, but they are a while building up numbers, or, in bad years a small satellite group could easily die out due to the death of a couple of breeding does I should imagine. The CWD was deliberately introduced to Cambridgeshire, to Woodwalton (and surrounding) fens. Then at a later stage the Norfolk Broads got a few transplanted
  2. CWD are not great travellers. They can and do exist in large loose 'herds' and appear to be at ease in each others company even during the rut. There is no way on earth CWD would reach the north without human intervention. In fact, their spread is only very slow (unlike the muntjac) even in places where the habitat is ideal. I'm sure that the CWD can make it as far as the Humber, in fact, they are in that region, but the crossing of this natural barrier with it's deadly mud banks and man-made piles must be viewed as almost impossible.....that's JMHO>
  3. The bushnell one is very easy to take on and off the tree's, just a clip.
  4. Don't know the model but it was about 180....from Amazon....image quality decent and film seems good enough too....
  5. I have just bought a Bushnell one, and the results are not bad i have to say....If you want to learn about the movements of shy animals they are a godsend...IMO
  6. I've just got off the phone from Paul Morgan of Anglebooks.com and he has very generously donated two books for the auction. The Fell Terrier and The Diary of a Hunter. He will also cover the p&p. A great gesture..... p.s, i think these are best being as seperate bids, not together.
  7. Gary, see if he will donate one to the RSPCA fighting fund thats in the general talk section. That would be a great gesture..
  8. Just had a phone call from Tracey Allen and The Countryman's Weekly are donating a three month subscription to this cause........ It's great to see everyone rallying round.
  9. As far as I'm concerned everyone who has working dogs,or who sells products to fieldsports people, should be helping raise funds for this.....It's great to see Penny and Dave Harcombe have both stood by their cause, it would be nice if others who write books or make dvd's could also show their support......for once we're being pro-active, lets keep the momentum up....JD
  10. An American mink trapping dvd..... Not a bad watch, giving an insight into how the yanks trap....
  11. Come on everyone, lets get some more stuff up.......we've all got contacts so let's use them and it's for a good cause.
  12. A mole trapping book. It is not brand new, it has been read, but only the once....
  13. Just seen this thread....I will put up a signed (personalised to whomever) copy of Now That's What I call TerrierWork 1...this was sold out many years ago. Donated....lets get these b*****ds on the ropes and they'll think twice next time. The amount of bad publicity this has had for them is unreal. I've sent links to all my veterinary friends and they've sent it forward, trying to target as many members of the public as possible.. To be honest alot of people (non hunting) can't believe what they've read, the society is going to be losing some donations!!!
  15. I think it might be a variation of the copper beech....even though I know the leaves are green...
  16. Don't have traps in the publics view if at all possible. What did they expect people to do,? the public cannot help but to mess with traps. Got to keep things nice and covert or you'll lose them! Around here at least!
  17. You don't see these all too often........ baby snipe......
  18. What you're doing is looking at the wolf of today as believing it's the same animal that the dog begat from, wolves today are remenence of a creature that has been condemned since the very beginning of the written word and a total social f**k up as far as humans go, I watched a documentary years ago about a young female Scandinavian scientist who made contact with wolves whom had never had contact with humans before and the interaction was striking, the pack of wolves showed curiosity not fear , they hung round and enjoyed her company some of the young yearlings even play bowed , so for me i
  19. My guess is that man captured puppys, and from then onwards things started to fall into place. I really cannot ever see a wild wolf 'coming round the campfire', they are a wild animal and extremely wary of human beings. it is a human's trait to 'gather' animals that he thinks will benefit him, like we have done for thousands of years, horses, poultry, singing birds, cats, dogs, stock even fish......the list is endless.
  20. We all do things our own different ways.....but.....I never even try for a 'retrieve' until the pup is five or six months old.....
