Northamptonshire , was out today and see few younguns about ,must have been couple months old . just hope mixy don't show up ,it normally does though .numbers been so low I've been leaving places to see if they can come back ,but I suppose it's folly as everything trying to kill them anyway ,atb
  2. I been thinking a collie of some sort would do me for ferreting and net work ,a pal of mine is thinking about breeding a reverse 3q collie greyhound litter and he offerd me a pup if all gos well .like you say it's temperament.the most spiteful dog I ever see was a border collie .

  5. Abraham Stanley took me out when I was a youngster and I see him place gate nets and send juck on ,and it pushed hare to run the right place,if you know the land you will get to know the runs ,I had some great times with abe and what he didn't know about filling the pot wasn't worth knowing.
  6. Used to walk across land with what my uncle called a drag line ,he would set nets and me and my cousin would have a end of line and walk towards net .he took plenty like this .
  7. Now my whippet x is retired to sit infront of the fire and pot around in the yard and walks along the river I'm considering getting a herder for ferreting and net work . what folk think of Australian shepherd , be good to know if anyone works this breed . atb

I've been seeing rabbit kits since end Nov on some ground .i was going to start my young bedy x on a place that holds a few and I see kits running about when I walked over the spot last week.some looked couple months old so they must b breeding all year now.i will b out with the pup this week and call it a day until next season for ferreting .havent seen mixy so far but it normally hits as it warms up .

Plenty jucks on face book and world beaters taking five out five and still only six moons and only getting rid as it's tooo hot.dog b a superstar by 3 yr. forget it mate get a pup ,I wouldn't take the chance on adult lurcher ,you might b lucky but might not ,at least with a pup You get to bond etc ,and much easier to train ,trying to stop bad habits in adult dogs pain in arse .hope you find what you looking for.atb

I'm 47 ,I worked with a old fella who told me he did a bit of ferreting and we got Chating and arranged a day out.he didn't collar the pugs and I ain't knocking that as I done it many times myself ,but when his killed and layed up he would just leave them ,I got my hob who was collard and put him in,he soon found the Jill and coney, a quick dig and alls well.i never went out again with him.old fella set in his ways feeding slop and if he left ferret he'd go live stock market get another 50pence. young or old you always going to find fools and let's face it this game certainly attracts som
  16. Was a time I wouldn't ferret if young was about as first young was end of season for me ,last ten years I've seen young most months of the year so I'll stop ,end of Jan ,just want to give pup few days out and see how she takes to few coney in nets .atb

I got out for a walk around some horse paddocks yesterday that normally hold few rabbits , I've left this place until now as i have a bedy greyhound pup just coming up to her first birthday and it's a good spot to start her ferreting. I walked the fence line and I saw plenty of well used runs and I see a couple bolt into a large pile of wood. So everything looking good for a days ferreting with the stinkers and the pup, Just before I left one of the horse owners turned up and we was chatting when a cock phesant started calling,we both turned to look and a fox was coming out the

My dad and grandad kept bedlington terriers and lurchers .they used them to fill the pot and for fox pelts .nothing like the show dogs you see now ,I remember few of the terriers had coats like goat hair .i have a bedlington greyhound first x who's coming on fine ,next season will b her first and so far she doing ok .she as lovely temp and easy to live with . was your border x from George N ,karnt b anything left of his line now,maybe a bit of his blood but not much in dogs today even though some sell pups saying his line . merry xmas mate atb

Sealyham ,Lucas and sporting Lucas are well known as terriers with brains "manners" .dont see many about today but very popular back in the day .the price tag that gos with them is stupid .1500 a Sealyham pup is crazy money . i used to see old women with one at the allotments and it normally had a rat in its mouth. was it Lucas terriers you had or sports str .
