You going better than me with coney,I haven't seen a rabbit on local ground for couple of seasons, they was few hares about in spring but they gone now as well.plenty of kaneys around and the lurchers have snatched a few in cover and i started taken a catty out again so getting my young bedy greyhound picking squirrel, Woody's and kaneys up .I was going to go ferreting with a pal in NorfolkThis weekend but the two bitches just come into season so that's not going to happen now. Gutted my whippet x is on the bench,he good dog and had some great times with him but all good things come to a e

They cracking little workers and Punch well above there size,I had some of the best times with a whippet or x by my side. My lad would break his heart on anything he was slipped,he took plenty gingers single handed and no cover stopped him. I see a few clips u put up and your pup coming on good pal, looks like you have some good days out on the rabbits. Do you only control coney or do you do fox and roo. I suppose snakes, spiders are a pain over there, do many get bit. My pal in Africa as a big African Mastiff and he always comes back from the Bush with monitor clamped t

You could try putting some Astro turf in one corner of the run as above some dogs don't like going on concareat. It always good thing make sleeping quaters roof low in winter anyway to keep heat in sleep box,I use sheet ply and remove it once spring is here. Putting straw in run might work, Some juckels hard to break them doing this but as been said they"animals"

I have a tracer 150 lamp and need to change bulb but I can not see a way of getting the old one out.iv only had it for just over year and I had nothing but truble with it .I was going to get a culit lamp but I have just had to give up work to care for my misses so really don't need expence of new lamp.i never get tracer again, this lamp only seen a few nights use as when the misses started to get poorly I stopped going out as much.life as been so hard for last 18months with hospital appointments etc that I could not get my bedy pup and at one point I was thinking of letting ma juckels go,but th

Good one mate, I aint seen a coney on local ground for two seasons.

If you get the right pup and put the time in I don't think you will b disappointed pal, I had pure whippets in past that done well on shoots,my retired lad is mostly whippet with a touch of bedy and he was good dog putting birds up for gun,and he also took kaneys before they could get of floor. Don't think the whippet and it's X's can be betterd as a rabbit dog jmop, Good on lamping They good ratters , They don't take up much room and cheap to feed, and easy to live with at home and in the field. Good luck Atb

Cracking pup mate, You have some nice juckels, Good luck for the season.

A bedlington terrier would be my choice, To me they tick all the boxs, Good ratters and probably the best rabbiting terriers iv seen have been bedlingtons.

I like the wooly one you have, Thinking about putting one over my bedy Greyhound give pups some wind,

Does anyody use whippets or small lurchers for rats
Moocher71 replied to Fat-Ferret's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I've kept and seen whippets that put some terriers to shame on rats, My old retired whippet x loved ratting and he would be in the thick of things with the terriers ,he would position himself and mop up the escapees,he just new were they was going to run to like he did with coneys. Yes you can have some great fun with a whippet or two. -
Nice, you have some cracking juckels Davo , Hope you have a good season pal.
-
Some nice juckels ,I like the white one.

I was looking to get a pup from dave sleight couple years ago pal. A mate as a kelpie border x whippet and as a rabbiting bitch you be hard to fault her and she holds her own picking up and good on rats. From what I seen you will have a good coney dog and capable of a lot more as well . Phil Lloyd the fella to ask about this x . I think dave still breeds a line and you won't go wrong speaking to him I also see a litter last week on Facebook saying from daves line. Personally I would have to have a bit of Greyhound in the mix. Atb

I worked a local farm for years and always got a call from farmer asking me to ferret etc until last year. He called and said he had no choice but to ban every one from doing anything on his land because rogue lampers. They have no respect for anything, This gives running dog lads a bad name, We really don't need this, Pest control with lurchers is coming to an end and it's this that's putting the nails deeper into the coffin. We need land owners on side, Its about helping farmers ,land owners clear pests ,but when they see us as the pest that breaks gates a

Sad to kill rabbits anymore.
Moocher71 replied to baldockbanks courser's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Very thin on the ground round my way, Rabbits definitely in a bad place, just hope they can come back from this, -
I heard it on the radio but thought they said mixy and someone put it on Facebook . Mankind will always meddle with things that don't need changing. Its a shame, I just hope the hare and rabbit will get through this. As for running dogs and pest control with them.its us that always comes of worse.ihave a picture of a hare shoot on fens last year were 246 was taken that day. How many would the average meet take.the ban done nothing for the hare. Atb

earliest memories of coursing dogs
Moocher71 replied to two crows's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
My grandfather always had a lurcher and to b honest I karnt remember when my family didn't keep a running juckel or two, Most had bedlington in them, and I always remember a Fawn ruff coated dog that slept under the trailer he wouldn't sleep in his box,he was a good dog. First hare dog i see was my uncle's he had been to Ireland to collect a stunning Black pup,and he popt in to show me dad, That Greyhound x whippet took many hares and it was seeing him run that got me thinking, I got two collie Greyhounds when I was 14 they mostly hound blood. I would leave the site every mo -
Just read on Facebook about hares having mixy? I didn't think they could catch it and I never see one with sighns of it, maybe its the new virus thats wiping rabbit population out. Shame if it is, I'm lucky if I see a brace coney on a days Mooch,
