Much appreciated!

I've never tried laying on my side and shooting, but it seems to work quite well!

Indeed you can as walshie said! I'm not sure what is specifically designed for a Hornet rather than the other .22 centrefires?! Interestingly, SAK suggest theres will do, but I don't know of anyone who has tried. I doubt you will get a cheaper, lighter one for a Hornet. http://www.ouluntyostokeskus.com/New/supprimfire.shtml

As walshie said there is no legal spec for a Boar rifle, but did I miss it somewhere, is he interested in Boar as well? If so, then no contest, get a .308, that was my prime reason for a .308, that and a bit of target, its probably 4-5 years since I took it out for any deer. However, if its just Roe and Reds then a .243, easy on the Roe but don't go throwing it at Reds if they are in the next county. There are those that will tell you it isn't up to Reds, I would suggest those people learn a bit about fieldcraft and shot placement! ATB! It's a fair point. I have shot several

The times I've heard "with a head shot you either kill it or its a clean miss", complete BS as you said yourself, except when you shoot its jaw off etc, etc! If you are a little off with a heart shot you are still likely to do considerable damage with the expanding ammo you will be using, and the odds are it isn't going that far!

There is a well known and very long established Game Dealer located between you and me (but a bit closer to me) who pays higher for head shot! Its simple economics, better looking carcass with more edible meat! I'm making no comment, just reporting!

Whatever else he may be he generates a lot of free publicity, love him or hate him he puts bums on seats and makes himself loads of luvverly money!

Its all part of! The good, the bad and the down right forgettable. Its been said above, after the gun and you are sorted, the only REAL way is to get out there and do it, experience counts for an awful lot. There are one or two on this site (not this thread) that think reading everything you can on the web makes you and expert!

Black Powder is deadly and very accurate in the right hands, it never ceases to amaze me, this was 1000yards at Bisley, and they did the business!

Is there a follow up to the Sep 01 2010 08:07 AM thread to say how this dye has faired over time? Cheers

Indeed, I run a Gloria and two different Garden Centre sprays, they all have a role!

I seem to get on just fine with traps/cages as they come. The fox sees all manor of things and walks on all manor of things during its daily life! We all get an idea of what works and doesn't, but what does this achieve, and may I suggest the only way to know if it is effective is to place 2 traps (one with, one without) as close together as possible and see which traps most. ATB! Edit You will see in my #15 the traps are totally out of the box, and all did the job, the last is a little different, simply in that it was a fox I caught in an office (crazy story). I do a fair amou

I think a certain amount of lads do cover the bottom of their cages, but others don't feel it necessary. As for painting them! They won't dip their bodygrips, let alone paint a fox cage. Lol

Can't use a rifle when I'm in a confined space .. that's the reason for the pistol question.. It would look very unprofessional trying to neck a rat or squirrel in front of a distressed paying customer The professional way is to keep clients, distressed or not, out of the way during such acts! Thanks for the words of wisdom.. condescending is a word that springs to mind.. You have asked for and been given a lot of sensible, accurate and useful advice from a number of people on this thread. You would be best to learn from those who know better than you and acc

Should have got a BB then!

Was this a FAC air rifle or a 12ft lb? I'll have to check here, but I didn't think sub 12 ft lb counted, fortunately I have never been in a position where I need to check before!

The WMR was never an incredibly popular calibre in the UK, it was, and still is widely used in the US. The HMR came along and was lauded as the new Messiah, it quickly established itself and many WMR owners were converted. Since that time WMR ammo varieties have increased and improved. Many people have realised that the HMR is not necessarily a replacement for the WMR but an addition, and WMR ownership has slowly risen again in the UK, admittedly it is still way below the HMR. My last WMR favoured 40g CCI Maxi-Mag V, my latest prefers the Hornady 30g V-Max, which is fine, it is fa

You could have saved all the confusion and posted that 13 pages ago! Oh, sorry, you did!

My thoughts too. Called my nearest RFD today and he said they've cured the missfires (which I take with a pinch of salt because the problem is not being able to anneal rimfire because the primer is already in the case) and they no longer have a problem with supply and they have loads in. A couple of months back they had none and couldn't get any. He also said that the 243 is an uprated 222 and has many more cartridge variations which make it a better buy. Which is the more versatile? NOBODY has cured HMR ammo issues, if they had it would be front page news and shouted from the rooftop
