Full Metal Jacket Ammo For Fox
Deker replied to shropshire dan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
When did you last shoot a fox with a FMJ of any description, when did you last shoot a fox with a rifle at all? When are you planning on getting a FAC and getting some experience, rather than lecturing the world on how to do the job because you read something. There are plenty here who have shot many pest species with many calibres, and many types of bullet over many years, some of us can remember the days before V-Max and the wealth of other expanding ammo available today. Few will argue that some of the newer ammo doesn't have benefits, but those same people will also tell you 1600f -

Actually Deker, not trying to be argumentative but lllluke is correct - military rounds are designed to wound at range because if you kill a person you take 1 person out of the battle. If you wound a person, you take out 5, the wounded person plus 4 people to carry the stretcher, plus you use up support resources such as trucks and helicopters ferrying in medical supplies and evacuating people out to field hospitals. There's a google book here on the military theory behind it: https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=yqHCCQAAQBAJ&pg=PT17&lpg=PT17&dq=shoot+to+wound+battlefield+milita -
Full Metal Jacket Ammo For Fox

There isn't an issue! Hit any animal anywhere in the wrong place with whatever ammo you like and it may walk/crawl away. I have made it clear I believe there may be better ammo, that doesn't mean a 22-250FMJ isn't suitable or doesn't work on a fox. -

Good grief Alsone, it's a 22-250 V a fox, how much energy transfer do you need! We are not talking about a little .177air rifle, this is a 22-250FMJ with circa 1500-1600 ft lb, where do you get this nonsense from? I stop foxes very effectively and very regularly with a .22lr sub at less than 100ft lb! I am not suggesting the 22-250 FMJ would be my first choice as a fox round, but if you can't stop a fox VERY EFFECTIVELY with it you need to take up knitting instead of shooting! -

YES. Many would suggest there may be better types, but put in the right place these will certainly do the job! -

In a word YES. Your region may have conditioned your rifle with an odd condition, but as walshie has said, you can shoot live quarry with anything you like (exceptions for deer). -

The 5.56 is designed to wound not kill. For the simple reason if you wound someone, you take another person out of the battle. compared to 7.62 where you kill them and wind the rest of them up You have read too many comics, the 5.56 was never designed to wound, it was designed to stop whoever it hit. Actually it was designed as a cost saving measure with the bi product you could also carry more ammo, cartridge pressure was also increased virtually immediately upon introduction as it was shown to be less effective and less popular than the 7.62. The fact it was not as effective a -
CZ 527 American (Hornet) 2.7kg. I'm not suggesting CZ are Lite, but I struggle to see that as bloody heavy!

As already mentioned, dry firing rifles isn't an issue. Semi auto shotguns can be half fired and then released, and the vast majority of modern shotguns can be dry fired anyway. So what's with ..... if you don't use them it leaves the firing pin springs under load? Ive always been under the assumption that dry firing a shotgun can damage the firing pins. It's 2016 now! Older guns have already been discussed. ATB!

I would broadly agree with andyf. There may be a few instances where a snap cap in a shotgun may be marginally useful, but for the vast majority of modern shotguns and rifles they are simply a gimmick.

There are times that even I wonder how threads can get so complicated!

You need to take All reasonable precautions. That is virtually impossible to define as every situation is different!

Can you let me know Service Station, vehicle and time please!? I need to stock up!

Who knows what is going on, but commercialism, marketing, promotion and money are nothing new. Very likely all hype in the hope of bigger Box Office! Time will tell!

As it happens I am what is generally referred to as a Professional Pest Controller. I know this will come as a surprise to some, but I don't know it all. New traps, baits, legislation, etc., etc., turn up non stop, so do changes in technique, it is useful to check with others at times! Just the same, there is a balance to be had giving advice to a numpty who may give a poor service, make a bad name for the profession, and take food out of my mouth. ATB!

You need to calm down a bit, like it or not there are many factors that effect where your pellet/bullet will end up, and a lot of those factors include climatic conditions. If you think Field Craft will help your pellet dodge a rain drop then perhaps you could enlighten the rest of us how. Nobody said don't go shooting in the rain, etc., you were just told the facts!

Help an old boy understand that, you shot one! Did you simply injure it and nurse it back to health? -
Atmospheric pressure changes in the rain, as it does with altitude, heat, cold, fog, etc, all these things have an effect on pellet/bullet flight. If a pellet/bullet strikes rain it can easily have an effect on the flight.

Who knows, but British women have done ok in Shotgun competition with 12g. I am wondering if technique/fit are the main issue here rather than simply being 12g. 20 certainly has its uses but we are talking about a 12g semi here already! I would perhaps suggest a visit to a fitter/instructor before throwing in the towel and buying another gun (even if the existing one is a Hatsan)
