It simply doesn't work like that, 2 guns off the production line next to each other may favour different ammo! On top of which your quarry/distance/land/etc situation may well be different from other people. The 595 is an older model, so who knows what condition or how well/badly the barrel has been treated either. Buy the minimum quantity of what you can find in different weights and try.

Hunting with an air rifle, - PCP Vs Springer.
Deker replied to mark williams's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Everyone shooting situation is different, if a springer or PCP works then fine, both have + and - points. I rather favour multi shot PCP these days, even with shot count and bottles etc! Smooth and easy to shoot! I am a decent shot, but even I can see the multi shot PCP makes me a tad lazy, always knowing I have a backup shot, single shot springer focuses "me" more on that one shot! -
Exactly, scopes get very personal, reticle, magnification, objective and tube size, IR or not, side/front focus/parallax, etc., etc., and everyones shooting situation, experience and needs are different. Look through as many as you can....outside the RFD's door...and see what you favour for your requirements! ATB!

We can all travel miles to get to this, but the trains and buses can't deliver folk to their nice warm offices and shops, or they consider the car drive to much of a H&S risk!? Funny old world, and we are the laughing stock compared to many countries in the world!

Look, I'm all for a bit of care and consideration but what is wrong with the country? There are a few inches of snow here and there, it's the lead story on the news and the country seems to be in lockdown; what is wrong with people, whatever happened to personal responsibility/accountability? FFS, it's like we have never seen it before, shops have run out of food, schools are shut, the railways have given up and we are told not to travel unless its essential. Get over it, get used to it, deal with it!

Like I said, if you can see with it fine, I shoot up to 1000 yards with my scopes, shooting at night is down to illumination/technology, not "MY" scopes! My assortment of Night Vision equipment takes me way past 200 yards without problem, but I VERY seldom find any need to shoot further than that at night (actually almost any time in the field).

Yes, cheers, done all that time and time again, just can't seem to get it quite right!

A VERY clever man I know very kindly made these for me. The Black is the original plastic and the others are Brass/Copper/Aluminium combinations.

These? My last WMR loved them but my latest was not so pleased, but it loves the Hornady. Just sold these at a kockdown price!
-
Indeed! Why should there be a problem?
-
I think you and many others here know I rate my WMR, but wherever I am I hate freehand shots, always do my best to get some support, so, good going there. I may be mistaken but that looks like a Hornady 30g V-Max to me, use them myself, cracking accuracy and performance that does what I want.

PERSONALLY, I'd say that is about the max you can reach with any confidence with Torches today, others may well have better eyes than me, as apparently wilbur foxhound has, as above. I know manufacturers state massive distances, but how far the beam will (may) reach, and at what distance you can still see clearly and confidently enough to take a shot are very different things! Some of the "lamps" will go further.
-
I'll give you that they are not bad, but you have better eyes than me if you can see well enough out to anywhere near 300 yards to take a shot with that!
-
If you think a 270 is better suited to your shooting needs then so be it. I wouldn't fret over barrel type, get what you want, I have a mixture, all are light rifles which I consider far more important than colour/composition. I look after all of my rifles and struggle to see the difference in wear, durability, accuracy.

I can't say I've ever noticed a variation simply down to temperature. Atmospheric conditions certainly, especially fog/ground mist, the moisture in the air can most certainly effect bullet flight, as can heat eddys etc etc etc!
-
Not one of the Whitetail Family I'm familiar with, can you post a picture!
-
What sort of distances? Torches are taking over and getting better and better, so the odds are that will be the route, but some of the older type lamps still have the edge in distance!
-
We owe a fair bit to Theoben historically, my heart says this is great news, my head isn't so sure, just the same, I hope the comeback works!

The question was about .22 LONG, not .22LR, there is a difference, which appears to have been missed by several posting here!

There are lots of mods out there and the technology has improved over the last few years, but only so much. I had a problem with weight of the normal Wildcats but changed to the Compact version. They work for me, but smaller/lighter mods are certainly available.

So knowledge and experience shows you with your setup you have a 200yard zero! That also shows you that you can set a 200 yard zero by shooting at 100yards because you know at 200 yards with your setup you will be spot when you are 1" high at 100 yards. Common way of doing things, working backwards (you may actually have worked forward and found out by chance your zero actually is 200yards), but you need to set your true zero before you can work backwards. I have known people to set their 200 yard zero by actually shooting at 25 yards, but that was NOT UNTIL they had set a true 200 ya

It's called knowledge, experience and practice, that happens in your head in a fraction of a second! Anyone can lob a bullet anywhere, getting it to do what you want consistently takes a bit more effort, knowing where your bullet will arrive rather than guessing helps! Please note, I also said..... If it works for some then fine, that's down to the individual, and being the odd 1"-2"-3" off at the point of delivery with a centerfire isn't necessarily going to change the outcome, just the same I like to have a slightly more accurate idea.
-
Your first zero may be 30 paces with some ammo, and the true zero may well be abou 200 with that same ammo, but "about" doesn't hack it for me, and what the heck is going on in between, and that will 100% guarantee change with different ammo types/weights! Very few people will need to take foxes at 200-300-400-500 yards on a regular basis. It is true to say that I have a target background (still do a lot of target work) and I like to know where the bullet is going at all distances. In honesty my target shooting these days is simply an opportunity to check/zero my guns and double ch

200 yards on the .243, has been for as long as I can remember, but in honesty I have been "thinking" about bringing that back to about 150 looking at the average distance I shoot things with it. I have a lot of rifle/calibres so this isn't just for foxes, I don't actually use the .243 for foxes that often, the rimfires or .223 seem to cover most bases on that front for me. Who knows what your situation is, but on the whole "I" don't need to take foxes in the next county, they can usually be brought in close, or you simply track their runs and take them close. Foxes with my centrefir
