  1. Hello, I have been bequeathed a single shot Pedretti 410 with a Hushpower moderator. I am not very experienced with shotguns but I have been trying to clean it. Unfortunately to get all the rust off the action I have damaged the blueing around the action so it looks like I will need to re-blue it. I am thinking of using the Birchwood Casey Perma blue kit. Does anyone have any tips or advice? Also although the barrel looks clean inside I have got some bits down it from when I was cleaning the rust from around the breech. So I tried to use an oily rag as a pull through. Rather than drag the muck down the barrel I thought I would drag from muzzle to breach. I was met with a strange sound as the rag just went up inside the barrel. After carefully extracting it the way it had come I saw there are what look like spaced out washers just inside the muzzle. Is it normal for these to be exposed or have I moved something inside the barrel? As I am trying to clean it thoroughly do I need to try to take the moderator apart to see if there is any rust inside? If so how? Thanks for taking the time.
  2. I let my shotgun certificate run out about 9 years ago having had quite a serious shoulder injury,I had the shoulder repaired (rotater cuff)in hind sight I should have just payed for the 5 yearly re newel but there you have it I was more into my dogs if truth be known, would you think id have any problems reapplying for it again. Thanks
  3. Just bought a Mossberg 500 .410 hushpower version and it says it’s chambered for 2 and a half and 3 inch cartridges. I have put 2 inch in and they seem to load and eject fine, could they do any damage to the gun or have they just put that because you can fit more than 2 of the 2 inch cartridges in the magazine? Cheers.

    Economical Cartridges

It's got to that time when I need to buy some more cartridges, i was just interested to see what everyone's suggestions were for an economical cartridge for walking around doing some rough shooting (not "game", just vermin). I've been using Hull superfast but i'm up for a change. I would like to try some of "Proper cartridges" cartridges but where i am it's very hard to get hold of them... I know this will cause a lot of discussion but you don't learn by not asking questions... Cheers - Max

    Aya No.3

I recently purchased an Aguirre y Aaranzabal no.3 sxs 12 gauge, could anyone give me some more information about it (and a rough guess at what age it could be) as I only know a small amount about it . Also can someone confirm for me the chamber length as I presume it's 2 3/4 but I read somewhere about someone who had a 3 inch version. Thanks

Hi, I went down to my local dealer yesterday and looking at the cheaper over and unders and noticed a couple good condition 12 bore double trigger non ejectors at around £160, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with fabarm shotguns? There were also some baikal ones too. Thanks
  10. I'm thinking of buying a side by side and I'm asking for a bit of advice. Ideally I'd like an ejector and single trigger with switchable barrel safety but on a budget of £200-300ish I know that I'm highly unlikely to get all this. My reason for this purchase is I have become a member of a local shoot and would like to take something other than my semi. My main questions are: 1. What make/model would be in my budget? 2. What make/model should I avoid at all cost? 3. When I pick one to look at what should I be looking for? ie: common S/S faults. Cheers
  11. Hi, I'm 14 (15 in September), and I was wondering how old I have to be to get a shotgun certificate? Neither of my parents currently have firearms certificates or shotgun certificates, also I live on a 40 acre farm and have used shotguns quite a few times before. Can someone please help? Thanks
  12. I have just joined The Hunting Life forum and was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice on the above topic?. I have a budget of around £300-£350. Also what kind of applications it could be used for i'm currently using a side by side 3" Mag but i'm struggling with it. Many thanks Andy.
  13. Had my Benelli Vinci Since July 13, really like it (looks hideous without the extension tube on) I've been looking for aftermarket parts, bolt handles, bolt release buttons etc, but I'd have more luck finding hens teeth! Has anybody else had any luck finding aftermarket parts for them??

  17. Following on from another thread, the old shot size and choke debate is still a hot topic as I'm sure it always will be. To show just how varied or common a particular choice is, I thought we'd have a poll, If everyone is honest and plenty of people vote, we could have some interesting trends, SS
  18. Hi all, first post. I am looking at buying my first shotgun, I have shot before, long time ago and I have no idea what I shot with. I'm also serving military so I am accustomed to using weapons. I would like a cheaper shotgun to start with and I am thinking 12g. So recommendations on makes models etc would be hugely helpful.
  19. Looking to buy a new shotgun, I'm looking at a few semi automatics but while I was browsing a noticed pump actions as well. I'd never considered one before nor do I know anyone that has one. They are cheaper but I can't see them being any quicker than a O/U SS. Anyone have any experience with them or opinions?

    shotgun beginner

done a bit of shooting when i was younger and alot of air rifle shooting. very expirienced with gun safety and what not. was just wondering what sort of money i would have to spend before getting a decent gun to go out rough shooting. any ideas ie make/model etc would be greatly appreciated. probably looking at a second hand gun to begin with. also some good acc/s eg. lamp kit etc. have done alot of my own research but there is nothing like expirienced advice. cheers ben. i apologise if this question has been asked a million times before. had a quick skim through the FAQ section and couldnt really see anything relevent.
  21. I had a bit of a confidence knock on Saturday when out shooting. I had two misfires in a row, with different ammunition out of my normally reliable Side by Side, the right barrel to be precise. I know it could be one of a few things, not least of which either a weak spring, broken pin or just the pin housing is dirty. I'm quite happy to remove the pins but this gun has "bushed" firing pins set into the breech face and a three pin spanner is needed to remove them. Anyone any ideas where I might get hold of one? Thanks SS P.S. Pins are set in like this;
  22. Have myself a second hand Hatsan Escort which I think is the as model. Havent used it much, but seemed to have a problem cycling. Had a look on youtube stripping it down etc, and found the gas 'o' ring is missing from out of the fore end cap. Could of always been like that since ive had it or.. ive bloody lost it! So need to find a supplier, who will post out to me, need a choke key for external chokes also. Appreciate any recommendations please.
  23. Any body got one ? what do you think......

    Mystery Gunmaker/Seller

Folks, I'm trying to find out a little more about a gun that belongs to a friend of mine. The makers name on it is "W.S." or "W.J Forth" i'd say circa 1920's. I can't find any information on it either in my reference books or browsing web pages. Would anyone be able to check any gun makers books they have to see if there is anything out there about the maker? It is more than likely going to be a Birmingham gun ordered in by a local ironmonger or blacksmith and they've stamped their mark on it, but it would be nice to know. Cheers, SS
  25. Bought a Winchester SX3 on Saturday and i like it, does what it says on the tin. Thing is I'm a lefty shooter and the SX is a righty gun. The problem I'm having is that when i fire, the recoil is making me reset the safety every time, so when i go for the next shot i have to take the safety off AGAIN!. In the manual it says that to reverse the safety is a simple job, yet it doesn't tell you how to do it. I have stripped the gun right back as far as i can. I have the trigger guard out of the gun but am a bit unsure as to how you actually reverse the little safety button. Is there anyone out there who has done, or knows how to do, this. I have looked on Youtube, but all that is on there is a strip down which I'm fine with. I'm working away all this week and am coming back on Friday night. Would be nice to sort it Friday night so i can go out on Saturday and let off more than one shot in a row. Cheers!.
