That’s low mate, hope you either get them back or find some good replacements.

That’s a pretty amazing plan b! Well done you looks like a cracking day

I had a ferret that had a piece of bone stuck in her throat (didn’t realise at first it was a bone) but swelled up like that and it ended up bursting and the bone piece came out! Healed up fine and ferret was good as new! It was chicken bone she had in her.

That’s some lovely looking ground to work you’ve got there mate. Smart looking dog also.

Hate it when that happens, nasty they are. Always cut them out and freeze the rabbit rather than feed it fresh.

Well done, good to get out. I was out myself before the rain and got 6. I have seen a few young around also, I think the return to warmer weather has caused some rabbits to come back into season as shot one last week that was no more than 2/3 days from giving birth to a litter of six! Unusual for September and the whippet caught two little ones last weekend.

A hunting partner owned one and he was an absolute manic. Complete loose cannon of a dog, to much drive and almost impossible to tire out. This chap is very good with dogs also (way better than I am!) but he just couldn’t get it to a good level. If he was with it the dog behaved immaculately but leave it on its own it would destroy the house, turn your back when out and it would be off just waited till he wasn’t looking. I think it was wired wrong as every other dog he has owned has been taught an exceptional level of obedience. He shot it eventually but not before near turning him crazy. Not

You weren’t lying about his size! Massive boy. Good luck with him

You lucky northerners have so many rabbits they are inbreeding and causing funny colours! ?. Always interesting to see some unusual ones good catch.
-
You’ve caught a serious amount of rabbits already and it’s only early September! Fair play enjoy the numbers whilst they are there. Dogs seem to be working well for you.
-
Well I am afraid I don’t believe you....I’ll have to bring my gun, ferrets and dogs over to check it out for myself!!!! ??? Enjoy the rabbits fellas and hope the good nights continue.
-
Not much about......and you shot 42! You don’t know how lucky you are! Top shooting though well done and enjoy.

By far and away the best permissions I have are small holdings and smaller farms that have no crops (just sheep or cows) the bigger estates and farms often have keepers shooting and farmers just won’t poke up with huge areas of wheat eaten off and give permission to anyone with a rifle and that coupled with mixi and rhvd just means the old rabbit is getting hammered. Definitely worth looking a bit harder for smaller permissions that may only be 10 acres or so but hold good numbers and then just take a fair crop rather than wipe them out.
-
Got to be RHD wiping them out that quick. Hopefully they recover in a few seasons.
-
Whilst there is no doubt rabbit numbers generally are significantly down across most of the country I do feel they will recover but it may take time. Personally I feel it’s the new disease as mixi has been about for 65 years and people have always hunted them, it’s still relatively early since the outbreaks and if you look at numbers after mixi initially hit it took a long time for them to get back to anything sensible. I do feel that (unless your a paid pest controller) that you must manage your permission to avoid wiping out your own sport, make sure you catch enough to keep a land owner hap

I doubt I’ll go out till late September early October the cover is high and when shooting last week was still getting milky does and one pregnant one, was deliberately only shooting the odd one to show my face as would hunt them with dogs and ferrets rather than shoot them. Amazed by the amount of pictures online of blokes lamping already and not the odd run 40 rabbit bags if the pictures are to be believed! Have a good season everyone

Top man and a pleasure to deal with, most lads on hear probably dealt with Jim at some point. Will be missed. RIP Jim.

Keep taking her out and showing her game and she will get there. Have you shown her any dead rabbits? Have you got any ferrets? Showing her a rabbit in the net or bolting her some rabbits might help. Good luck.

I’ve got a year old non ped to ped whippet and he is an annoying dick around the house the but the most natural ferreting dog I’ve ever owned. Only took him last winter as the older dog had a horrific accident and was out of action for months (he is fine now) thought he would be a bit young really but he was a complete natural. Never had a dog mark so well, me and my old man were going in the snow and had 4 from a set and were picking up and he just keeps marking a hole away from the main warren so pop a ferret back in rabbit duly bolts he catches it, that was a regular achievement for him des

Would love one of yours to add to my workers and introduce some fresh blood but Yorkshire is a long way to go for a ferret from Sussex! Good luck finding them good homes Vin.

Was starting to well up a bit reading that, brings back the memories of losing them over the years. So glad she pulled through would’ve been a horrible way to lose her.
-
Did you bolt them to the dogs or use nets? I am guessing the dogs as must be just about impossible to get any kind of peg or long net pole in the ground. Not sure why you bought one from the pet shop though??? ????

Agree with Beany01 completely, good points. I do exactly like him bit of air rifle shooting in the summer months for fresh ferret food and keeping land owners happy, my air rifle doesn’t see the outside of its case between September and April though.

Lovely kits ??. Good luck with them.
