Have had a pair of Brasher (think Berghaus bought them over) Hillmaster boots for years. Robust enough for hill walking and very lightweight. I prefer a leather upper to gore-tex etc.  When I rep

Altberg walking boots are worth looking at

+1 on the Haix army boots. Don't think the second hand ones I've had off ebay had ever been worn. They're less than a third of the price of brands like Meindl. Use the savings to buy decent gaiters like Seeland. They're heavier than light fabric walking boots but nothing like old school Hawkins walking boots or the old army boots.

Perhaps it's fear of retribution.!  If I say that to my Mrs I'm  just as likely to get a cuff round the ear ole. ??

If truth is known I  expect the vast majority of all of these offerings are made in some foreign sweat factory and its pot luck as to what you get.  Brand names are just that.  Names.  Here today gone tomorrow.  It could be years in between purchases so who knows what your getting with a new pair.?

Like everything some people love a product and others hate a product.  every manufacturer would say that their product is the best.  If the military use a make, is that boot or whatever made up to a military spec and totally different to the product available to Joe Bloggs.  A lot of manufactures might say that the product has not been used for the purpose that it was designed to do. Price doesn't always relate to how good a product is in use.

Always found boots under a certain price range will leak each to their own I guess the last pair of meindl I sent back one of the boots tongues was half inch higher as well the rand splitting on the side ??

Great Post Stan, nice to see people acting with the utmost decorum.

Regarding boots, I don't think you can go wrong with a nice  pair of knee high heels.

I’d like to treat myself to some high leg ‘American made’ Danner boots. Can’t really justify it, but I think they’d make me happy ?

the danner boots made in the usa are excellent but avoid the danners that are  made in china there crap and you would be lucky to get 18 months out of them

These two posts  kind of point to the point that I was making. All of the marketing blurb say that they are the best.  Well they would wouldn't they. And unless you can try them on you don't know what your going to get online.  feet are different.  the left one might be ok but the right is dead tight.  all of these really need wearing in before going on a big hike unless you want feet like lumps of raw meat.  here is an article about boots in the Telegraph and don't forget they have been selected by Holly willowy. and some other actress in a film..! so that makes them really good.  I asked my Spaniel as to which ones were best.  the spaniel said that wellies were best because they kept the wet out and the smell in. ?

Article...for what it's worth.  Like I wrote most boots are probably churned out in Mbongo land or Chinkville.  https://www.telegraph.co.uk/recommended/leisure/best-walking-boots-women/

I refuse to buy stuff from Mbongoland ,their human rights record is appaling .

How does anyone know where the stuff you buy comes from.?  Sthil chainsaws used to come from Germany.  Husqvarna used to come from Sweeden.  Not any more it is all from Chinkville.  It's just like being a box of matches or a tin of beans.  it's all random items.  all of the Americans want to buy stuff >>> Proudly made in the USA. Briggs and Stratton engines have a sticker on the cowling that states >>> Proudly made in the USA.  The sticker is,  but the engine isn't.  Most of everything is just bollocks speak and it's all fake news. and don't forget OMO soap powder used to be whiter than white.?  Isn't white white. apart from the hundred shades of white.

Yeah I sussed that out on their website mate. You can tell when they are American made because there’s a big jump in price, but you get what you pay for.

I bought some American made Red Wing boots a few years back & those things will last forever with an occasional resole

Sorry gentlemen to bother you, but I have come to my wits end. My neighbour across the way lets her dog roam as it please when it comes to shitting and urination, she is too lazy to actually take the dog out herself. He seems to have taken to my property and a certain area just under my bedroom window. I do not want to hurt the dog for the sake of her ignorance, but I do very much need to stop him from doing it any longer. The grass and  the shrubs are dying and turning brown and the flowers are just rank with smell that floats up through my bedroom window.
He is a VERY OVERWEIGHT beagle and leaves behind some damn good deposits.
I am wondering short of doing something stupid, what can I do to deter the dog from that area or any patches of garden I have? I plan to go to the council about the problem, and lay some of it on the town manager who is an acquaintance of mine, but in the meantime, any tricks out there to make my flowers and bushes unsavoury.
      Thank you in advance,
      Lynn

Hi guys, just wondering if any of you keep finches. I have a son with autism and other than adoring my ferrets, he has developed a real fascination with small birds, I would really like to keep this interest going with him as he has very few things that he likes and its a great way to get him into the routine of caring for animals. I have a decent sized back garden and a 8ft x 10ft shed that I was thinking about making an outside aviary and attaching it to my shed and cutting out a few holes and having a small inside area.
It would be great to see if any of you guys have something like this.

      Cheers.
      Gavin
