  1. My first lurcher, bought in the early 70's had to live with my great Aunt, 4 doors down, (out mongrel collie bitch wanted to kill her!). That dog was lucky if it seen a tin of Chappie, it lived off kitchen scraps and as my great Aunt was a big 'un, those kitchen scraps were few and far between! So it was forever foraging in the bins in the jiggers. You could tell which jigger it had been in as there wasn't a bin lid left on, the neighbors fecking hated it, both for that and its ability to run on the jigger walls and kill their cats! That dog probably did more hunting and catching that any dog
  2. Same as you Baw, I usually think its the thrill of the chase for 'em, don't matter what breed either, all dogs will chase sommat. Though when we were kids my mate (like me) had an EBT. It was a constant sleep dreamer but on occasion would get up and tear in to anything near! The furniture, table, chairs etc all had serious bite marks, as did family members! I can remember the mother showing my mother the bites on here legs as a result of the dreams. The dog always let go once 'woken' with a shout (or scream!). Eventually Bullseye was kenneled in the yard, his sleep was fecking dangerous.
  3. This pub in Anfield is/was called The Cock Well Inn but the council made 'em change it to the Stadium (boring!). If you look on the sign in the middle you can still see the original name.
  4. If your into your cur crosses, those would be the very ticket and a real good price too, I hope they all find good homes.
  5. Deanflute, soon as I seen them I bought a pair on the spot, as I've also been trawling round for a robust, knockabout pull-on boot and at that price they are well worth the money. So thank you. Tomo, your a good enough salesman and I'm gonna plump for the neo Agile, same as yours. Though it'll be out of next months pay packet. Thing is, my Mrs just said as I was on the Decathlon site, that she thinks the owner is a mate of her dads..! Now, my father-in-law can be an awkward 'customer' sometimes but she'll ask him to speak to the bloke, so....!! Paul, keep me posted on those copies, my mat
  6. Yep, I remember both Abbott Bro's and greyhound ferrets. I could be totally wrong but I dunno if greyhound ferrets were a line/strain, or just a type found in litters. They were certainly advertised as if breeding true but I wonder how much of it was sales pitch? Lets face it, back in the day if you owned two or three Jills that you bred off, it could be a difficult time offloading the kits, especially as they'd be eating you out of house and home! From what I seen they never bred to type and seemed just the racier ones in normal litters. The Jill to next doors ferrets was of this type
  7. If you've never seen it...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWmdEqwgit4
  8. Pre Saluki, Deerhoundy crosses and hybrids were the most popular...
  9. At my dads cremation in Southport we had a good service, I wrote the eulogy but the vicar delivered it (I couldn't) and we had three of his fav songs played, with Deno's Little 'ol Wine Drinker playing him down the castors and through the curtain.... Good send off.. So we lead out and take positions to speak to family and friends and me mam, seeing his old mates from Anfield, asked me to go over first whilst she spoke to some relations. Five of 'em made the trip and I thanked 'em for doing so. They said they wouldn't have missed it but unfortunately, one of 'em, Joe Keller, was ill in hospit
  10. Right now, at the end of January, unless a dogs coming back from injury, or you've just bought one in, a dog should be in the best shape of the year, nothing better than working fit...!
  11. I'm donating mine to Ripleys Belive It Or Not..!
  12. Your dead right Gem, you and Malt. These here dunlops are gonna get some high end Aldi insoles, I'm on the cod liver oil and good to go..!
  13. Get yourself one of them Irish ones. On the downside, that Irish saluki temperament seems to induce permanent verbal diarrhea but they all come with a free camera for putting up illegal pics on here!
  14. They sure did but I had dry feet and didn't walk across wet fields like Bambi on ice....
  15. Well after 9 months service my Tayberry Rooks have just decided that they can't hack it and split, on the upper, in the crease, on both..!! Bottom line is.... Wellies are all shite! Over the past 4.5 years of living 'rural' i've had about 7 pair of wellies and the best were the under a tenner, dunlop specials... Since I moved in I've had a new pair each birthday and Christmas... And each comes with the same hope, that maybe i'll get a year out of 'em and i'm sick of getting 'em and she now refuses to buy 'em... Can't say I blame her! Hunter, Tayberry, Sealand, Muck, Sherwood a
  16. At 8 months and unspoilt thats a nice animal for someone to have a bit of fun with. Whoever gets her, keep us posted.
  17. No Andy, I just think there are a lot of bad owners of Lurchers in general, just that the saluki blooded dogs are less forgiving than the others....
  18. Music documentary's on BBC4. Wild Arabia at the min. and thats about it...
  19. It'll be later on in the year mate. The guy lives in the next village to my father-in-law. Its the type of village Kelly's Hero's was filmed in! I was introduced to the Galgo bloke through a local farmer when I gave him a lift killing his pigs and showed him a few pics of my dogs. Anyways, the bloke with the dogs came over with one and we sat down, ate fresh made soft cheese and drank copious amounts of wine and he invited me out next (this) year to hunt pigs and hare. September is when i'm hoping, as I want to get in on the grape picking and wine supping which is that month... Oh brother can
  20. Met a bloke in Portugal last year who runs Galgo's and sorted my invite out for this year...
  21. Nice little Lurcher pup, don't matter if it came off David Hancock or anyone else, It's the same with any pup... You'll only get out of it what you put into it and there's a long road ahead, so make the most of it.... Best of luck..!!
  22. The other thing that worries me is lung cancer, mouth cancer and all the other cancers Nah, them sort of things I never worried about when smoking but yellow or worn teeth... Now they are nasty..!
  23. The only thing that used to worry me about pipe smoking was when you seen those old boys with very worn teeth on one side.
