  1. When I smoked I always said i'd like to be a pipe smoker, always wanted to. Somat quite dignified and reflective about it and its the purest form of smoking. I wanted to have a couple of real cool pipes to use, one of which had to be one of those long clay types. Alas, I gave up smoking, so it was all just a pipe dream... Sorry!
  2. You weren't kidding when you said it was in a bit of a state. Looking very tidy last week when I seen her. She'll be a flying machine for sure.
  3. You can't 'make' any other without using a first cross in the first place. Anyways, enough about bull crosses their as common as muck...!
  4. Nice pup that Mik, nice shape to it. Best of luck with the old fellas recovery.
  5. When they had the Gamekeepers fair there, I'm sure they were in March or early April?
  6. nae the only ways the old way This forum, is like the land unfortunately... Once you change it, its changed forever...
  7. Looks, as you say, a grand day. Is that Whin in the pics?
  8. Yep, the lurcher section used to be better, the terrier section used to be better etc etc blah blah blah.... The only way to make things better, is to post informatively and responsibly... You are all masters of the forums destiny....
  9. If you really don't have any direct access to something that you'd see as well bred, then be patient and give it time, because there are no hard and fast rules to someone trusting you, as worthy of taking a pup off them. The time spent searching should give an edge, where all your effort eventually goes in to that new pup and the patience you've now got will stand you in good stead over the next twelve months of rearing and training.
  10. Depends on how bad it is mate. I've used buttercup syrup soaked soft bread with a jab of antibiotic with ok results. The linctus simply eases off the tickle and soreness, lets the dog recover. Failing that you can get a jab from the vet if things are that bad and you might fear it spreading.
  11. These thinkin type women are a pain in the arse and just make us frown, I recon we'd all be better off with one of those dumb feckers that just smile and say 'err yer, ok', no matter what the question or instruction.... Ahh, if only life was that perfect.... Getting back to reality... I'd stick with veggie grub just for her, 'you wanted it, you've got it', type attitude. She'll soon sicken....
  12. I'll be honest and say i've never owned a lurcher that was any good at it. My first whippet bitch as a kid caught one or two scrag pigeons off the local oller but that was it. Though she would stalk pheasants, she'd simply shit herself when they exploded from their seat. Jake my saluki/cur was simply indifferent, even though his father 'ol Jet was a spectacular feather catcher. All my other dogs would hunt pheasant and partridge well enough but just couldn't or wouldn't be arsed really putting the effort in to connect. The only dog that really could or would do it on a regular basis was my EB

  16. Following your posts, I did some fishing myself and found that even Bert's daughter is trying to get hold of it.
  17. I've never believed there is any such thing as the 'traditional' lurcher. If you went back far enough, greyhounds were lurchers and lurchers were greyhounds. One type was refined to hunt and course as a sport, the other simply was used for necessity. Old forrest laws brought on big changes for the 'necessity' hound and it was crossed with various other breeds to create a dog to hunt whatever a man needed to hunt on this fair isle. When new blood was required they went for those coursing dogs again and put them to whatever was required, just like now and thats where our lurcher ideals come fro
  18. No idea what the initial problem would be Gnash but wondering that maybe a bit of your body heat may have brought it round enough to make a move and fly. Good deed to have done (though folk with fish ponds may think different!) and a good tale to tell in the future. Nice one for sharing.
  19. With general knock-about, mooching/lamping curs, a drop of Saluki (or Bull) goes a long long way. Some nice dogs here folks.
  20. Those cur dogs can be deceptive feckers, my mate has a little merle bitch, looks like a half or a reverse 3/4, all skulky and aloof to strangers, gives you that look of disgust and distrust and creeps where ever she goes but she'll kill stone dead just about anything you put in front of her. That's the type i like. I'd own her in a flash...
  21. I've always fancied taking one of these along, I recon it'd kill everything with one touch...
  22. Crocky Park is just about the hottest place in or around the city. Personally, i wouldn't walk a lurcher or terrier near the place! Sure plenty still go over there but they live local and know the place and even they get nicked..!! I really am at a bit of a loss here fellas, if you've met a few folk local, they should direct you to local specks for a few rats or rabbits and even without the info, surely you have an idea... Christ, you only have to walk round any Mackys shrubbery at night and you'll kill rats, let alone any old waste ground in a big city....! Stanley Park and Crocky Park are s
  23. Do you mean permission? If so, its very difficult to get. The city is choc-full of dog lads, always has been but more so now. What farms would let you on will have a que half a mile long. Permission is difficult enough but more so round Liverpool. Not saying it wouldn't happen but you really need to do your homework. If you find a speck, give me a shout, it'll be interesting to know where?
