good for you socks, best of luck.

i know one of the deer wardens in epping forest and they have problems with running dogs in the past so nowadays they are very hot on anyone with a lamp, so he says. dont know what the rabbiting is like round there, but reckon your mate could get quite a bit of hassle if he's not careful

Collie Grey X Salukie Dearhound Grey Matted My Bull Terrier

its not shit, its called having a bit of concern for your stock. make the kennel out of something it cant chew. contented dogs dont chew anyway. -

so you keep the dog chained up? thats nice. -
thats a bad do socks. i know for many of us if we have a narrow scrape with the law then it is such a relief to not get charged that we tend to leave it at that, but i really hope you pursue it. push every possible angle you can (wrongful arrest, loss of earnings, anything you can think of), letter to chief constable, police complaints comission, the lot. i guess you probably dont want your name splashed across the papers, but if you dont mind then i would be on the phone to the press agency, might get a bit of coverage to embarass the plod. good luck with whatever you do.

Lurcher Want Retrieve To Hand
beast replied to Lancashire Hunter's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
personally i would forget the flirt pole for a while, and get her to hold onto toys which are already in your hand, you can play at letting her shake the toy whilst you are holding it and get her to make a strong connection between the pleasure of ragging the toy, and your hand. but you need to teach her to stop on command so it doesnt degenerate into an undisciplined tug of war. i have used an exchange of titbit for the toy to teach this "drop" or just grip the toy really close to the dogs lips and grip it hard to ease it out of the dogs mouth. there are different ways. soon she will be ready- 1 reply

like that pup. hows her temperament, any of that hyper collie stuff or is she pretty calm (yes i know all pups are excitable, but some more than others!!!) -
The Gypsy and the Poacher.....aye it was meant to be serious but is anything but...... Platts is breathing like a rapist at the end of this short clip...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj-LPSiU29s&hd=1 hahaha fecking brilliant! i need to watch the whole film again sometime just for a laugh!! might be the nicest bloke and the best dogman in the world, but that film makes the poor sod look like a complete twonk! thanks for finding it!

sorry to hear your sad news. the dog was doing what he was born to do, not lying sick for weeks in someone's lounge "better a day in the life of a tiger than a year in the life of a sheep"
-
glad you got dogs back. how did you find the whippet?
-
anyone seen that "film" platts made a few years ago? first he takes his bitch rabbiting, then he has a bare-knuckle fight with a fat bald bloke, then he sings some folk songs with an old busker plaiyng the accordion and wearing a funny hat then he eats a fecking baked hedgehog or something, its absolutely HILARIOUS! comedy gold, but i dont think its supposed to be...............!!!

do you want to get there names up on here pal? hope the stolen dogs turn up, i would be torn up if mine went

nice buck, looks superb what i can see from the photo. most of the fallow round here are black, i would reckon about % plus, but you still see whites and menils scattered amongst them. interestingly the black bucks mostly seem to have poor antlers for some reason, while you can see different coloured bucks in the same herd with a good head. makes me wonder if there is some genetic issue.........

healthy contented looking pups, credit to you. hope they all turn out to be how you want them to

Most Important Quality In A Dog Man...???
beast replied to BORDERSCOT's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
there are some interesting and thoughtful answers here. i would just add that i have never seen an idiot with a good dog unless he bought it in and then they usually don't stay good for long . and i have yet to see a clever person with rubbish in his kennel even if he bought in rubbish. by that i mean that a good dog man can make something out of a poor dog, but a twat is only able to spoil a good one. so i would say the single most important quality is cleverness, not genius not massive IQ not steven hawkins boffin, just a shrewd, smart nature to see whats what and how to get what yo -
i had a bitch a couple of years ago which was the best i have evr owned, and one of the best i have ever seen as an allrounder. daytime hares, deer, fox, best ferreting dog i have evr seen, lamped, worked with the gun, the lot. beautiful temperament, easy going, happy dog. didnt even have to train her, she was almost telepathic! got cancer not quite aged 3 years wasnt even in her prime. when the vets told me, i said "i'll bring her back tomorrow and put her down". they offered me various treatments, to keep her going a bit longer, i just quietly said no. sat up all night talking to her, remi

i certainly dont train mine to the standard i did when i was a lad, although i enjoy teaching a puppy, i have learned which things a dog really needs to know and work on those, rather than, say, walking robotically to heel or a sitting-presentation when retrieving. as a youngster i would drive my dogs hard, hard hard, not so much because i wanted to catch huge numbers but because i truly believed that a dog is nothing unless it has really been tested in the fire of work, beaten over the anvil almost to breaking point. this wasnt about proving a point to anybody as i very rarely worked dog

some interesting points here. 1. the "gangs", thieves etc aren't the reason for the hunting ban, that was down to left-wing class war fed by Anti bribe money paid to the labour government. however, the "gangs" are an easy way to get the public to support the police. rspca etc to stop coursers (tar every running dog owner with the same brush) 2. countryfile is a fluffy bunny show for townies, its not about the real countryside but a fake beatrix potter land. i went to that adams farm a few years ago, was a terrific place and did some great conservation work when his old man had it but now

i' ve ferreted quite a few disused quarries which were basically stripped out bare rock or spent chalk, even 50 yard dashes after rabbits were damaging some of the dogs feet, i wouldnt have enjoyed watching a dog run anything there which might have taken it on a long chase. none of the collie crosses evr get badly hurt though, just cuts on the pads where others were breaking and dislocating toes or ripping nails out. these were paid jobs i wouldnt work such places for pleasure
-
personally i would put a reward up, a genuine person wont take it anyway but if you get some shady message saying "meet us in a motorway services" or something then you show up with a bunch of close friends..........................................

looks like manchester terrier, but i doubt thats the right answer

sunday morning i went to look at at some of my permission, just a recce with the dogs. this used to be prime rabbit country, until the wet summer 2012 and the bad winter, so i left it alone last year hoping for the numbers to build up. there is an old woman owns it, lived there all her life, very private and it took me 18 months of popping in for a cuppa, helping her with odd jobs etc before she would let me ferret the place, and another year before i could take the dogs on. well, sunday morning i find a gate broken off its hinges (which i fixed for her) tyre marks across all the fields, two

salt water is really good for ardening up the skin, not just on feet but anywhere it gets rubbed or chafed. used to use it on the horses if they got a bit sore under the saddle or harness
