i have line bred collie/grey types nowadays, but have had all sorts of collie based dogs over the years (as well as some with no collie at all) and i still maintain that a decent bitza lurcher crossed to a pure collie takes some beating a s a knockabout jack of all trades, try-anything hunting dog. usually a bit slow to be the dreamt-of all rounder, but hell you can ask them to do anything and they will die trying, almost indectructible, great nose and feet and run all day as well as most of the nfollowing night! just ask fuji!!

saw a show about the south african bushmen a few years ago. one thing which they do is to make snares for little finch or sparrow type birds, looked like horsehair or similar, and set literally hundreds of them around any waterhole. one time they caught about fifty, guess a whole flock came down to drink and the bushmen struck it lucky

whereabouts on the wanker scale is miliband? he is a COMPLETE wanker, by which i mean he ticks every box in the "how to identify a wanker" checklist given what the labour party did to this coun try and her subjects in their last term, it frankly terrifies me that there are still significant numbers of people who will vote for them. balls and harman are both very high in the wanker ratings, but remember the likes of abbott, vaz, chaka ummana, sadiq khan who are more prominent on the c**t scale. remember, the only man who ever entered the houses of parliament with good intentions was

600 Grams Of Dry Food 22 % Protein
beast replied to Dranny GLC's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
always hard to tell from a picture, but that dog looks fine to me. i havent weighed feed for years, and its not great to rely on a set of scales , but as a rough guide a dog should get between 2 and 4 % of its body weight per day, depending on age, activity, weather conditions etc etc. so if your dog weighs, at a guess, 30kg then what you are feeding him is within these guidelines -
when you are breaking a pup to sheep, there are more things to consider than just walking a calm pup near calm sheep. first, make sure the pup igores the sheep when it is in an excited state, for example i like to put a 50 foot line on the pup then play fetch or tug games, get it really revved up, whilst the sheep are as close as i can get to them. secondly, and most crucial of all, makke sure you can trust the pup when the sheep are agitated, any prey type animal running away from a dog will get its interest a hundred times more than the same animal standing or wandering about would. i put p

google "behavioural enrichment", its the jargon they use in zoos etc for "giving the animals something to do". loads of ideas for puzzle feeders, toys, activities etc for animals. any decent zoos take this very seriously now, to stop the problems they always used to have with bored animals with stereotypic behaviour issues

lots of the african tribes do too. lets be honest, thats all a basenji is really isnt it

i'm not qualified at first aid (did my badge at scouts when i was a tiddler though) but whenever there is any kind of emergency or injury at work i always try to help if i can. now, we had an old boy had a heart attack and then fall into a pond last winter, he was in there for a good half hour or so before anybody sent for help, and lets just say it wasnt pretty. but by following common sense and odd bits i've seen on tv i managed to keep him going until the ambulance arrived, and he eventually made a virtually full recovery. but what was interesting was that the two first aiders on site both

i wouldnt worry too much about infection, dogs will clean open wounds like this pretty thoroughly themselves . i would probably keep the dog leashed for a few days to stop the wound opening up again, but it really doesnt look too bad. give it a quick rinse with clean water before kenneling the dog, and it should heal in no time. if you intend to use any of the products to toughen the feet up then wait until the wound has healed, personally i have never used anything like that though

Maybe A Dumb Question, keeping Males And Females
beast replied to squab's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
its always going to be a gamble, but you stand the risk of either your two dogs falling out, or getting hyper when the bitch is in heat. a dog pup should just fit in nicely with two grown dogs, personally i have never seen an adult male which wasnt good with pups, although im sure there must be some somewhere that dont like pups. -
one day..........

i see that rotten fat crook keith vaz sticking up for him on the news..... closing ranks already

that dumb fat worzel thinks that the deer are just going to stand there while he walks to shooting range (what range do you reckon that bow is accurate and has stopping power, 15/20 yards?). he seems to think that wild animals cant hear or scent, absolutely no idea of bushcraft. sit up a tree over one of those game trails would be my choice, and be prepared for a LONG wait......

with a first cross it makes no difference, half the pups genes come from each parent. any other breeding there is a bit of "lucky dip" about it, unless the line has been bred for type for several generations and is breeding true.

mate of mine has just bought a cockerpoo x whippet pup. its a pet for his kids, but it will be interseting to see how it turns out. i will give it a bit of a try out this time next year, will let you know how it turns out

The title "M" is believed to have been created by Ian Fleming from the first real-life head of Her Majesty's Secret Service, Mansfield Smith-Cumming, who used his initial "C" to indicate when he had signed a paper. Other influences on the character include Admiral John Godfrey, Fleming's superior in British Naval Intelligence during World War II. The "M" might also be an abbreviation for Minister, refering to the title of the MI6 head. In Ian Fleming's last novel, The Man with the Golden Gun, it was revealed that M's real name is Vice Admiral Sir Miles Messervy KCMG.

domestic dogs were available to mesolithic people. Yeah, that's what I said. If I was trying to live as a Mesolithic man, I'd want a few handy hounds with me. Even a terrier would be well worth it's feed. i misread that!! apologies! but you are quite right, any dog would be a godsend. i reckon a lot of deer hit with a flint-tipped arrow would be far from instantly dead; how useful even to have a camp cur to follow up

i never owned a tv until a few years ago, barely came inside the house except to sleep and some times for a meal. used to have radio 4 in the motor and that was it really. much prefer to read if i happen to have a bit of spare time. now, however, i have a wife and kids and the fecking box is barely ever turned off. incidentally, if you think mr tumble is good for a kids show, apparently the bloke who is in it does another show called gigglebiz, the mrs reckons it is really funny.

i'm sure i saw this bloke down on deptford creek, just after finishing his shift at the car wash.....
