  1. in nigh on 30 years i've never bred a litter or sold a dog. at one time i was catching enough to apy all my expnses (feed, fuel jabs etc) and also pay for a few extras each year (new locator or a new lamp etc) but never made anything like living money, and christ i was putting in some hours then, as well as working full time. but i just love being around dogs, training, working them, just sitting on the floor with them in the back yard. i love the sport, when my time comes i hope i have a heart attack while i'm watching a running dog up behind a hare , what a way to go
  2. a fit healthy adult dog might not NEED heat, but it just might LIKE a bit of heat........ my heaters go on when it goes below 5 degrees, they are on a thermostat. dogs come indoors at night.

  9. Its amazing how much weight they loose in a few weeks , at the start of the season they where in fabulous condition they seemed to have had a great summer piling on weight .I had one in the coldroom at a tad over 197lb ..the buck I shot the other day was 121lb & he was about skin & bone ..That said I heard a buck still grunting last Wednesday ..I think in general its done here as well .. its also amazing how quickly they put it back on if the weather is mild and there is a bit of feed still about.
  10. as above rex, i've always got some bits and pieces lying around so PM me exactly what you need, hopefully i can help out
  11. mate of mine took these a couple of weeks ago, apparently the fight went on for at least 20 minutes, and in the end the sika got uphill of the fallow, which allowed him to win. looks like a pretty even contest though.
  12. chaps, PM me details of exactly what you need, and i will look through the workshop
  13. just heard an umpire in a match in israel (of all places) got hit by a ball and died today. poor bugger.
  14. i have come across a few slightly unstable border crosses, but personally i have never encountered any beardie crosses which behaved oddly.
  15. if i could afford a new truck, i would choose an isuzu, engines are great.
  16. if sussex cant help, PM me and i am sure i can find something that suits you
  17. yeah i know its used by humans but it not licensed or tested for weight loss, and in fact in many countries its not even licensed for its proper use (breathing issues). i'm sure he is being sracastic, but wouldnt want any youngsters to get wrong ideas
  18. why would you give a dog drugs to solve a simple problem like weight management? especially an asthma drug?
  19. the best all round dog i ever saw was a bitch bred from hancocks current stud dog Mr JONES which is beardie x border. he was put across a greyhound bitch, and the pup my friend owned was about 24tts and 50lb at a guess. this bitch was what i would consider almost the perfect dog, both for all round hunting but also in temperament. i would be interested if anyone else has seen a dog of this breeding?
  20. i've run cur dogs for best part of 30 years now, and it has to be said that the owner does make an enormous difference to the dog. yes failures do occur, but have you ever wondered why most professional rabbiters use collie crosses? a cur dog is capable of so much more than just lamping, mine will ferret and lamp with the best of them, we used to take deer up to fallow size, most would catch hares ( not always with fair law, but even then some would put up a reasonable show), hunt up, catch feather, work to the gun in or out of water, any kind of terrain and be almost unbreakable, track shot d
  21. the politicians won't wonder about anything, they dont give a monkeys about anything except themselves
  22. i agree clolliejohn, what a burden that young man has to carry. hughes was a talented cricketer and died doing what he loved, RIP
  23. i've known dogs get a bit of wood or bone stuck in the roof of the mouth, but usually it is obvious, and really bothers them. guess youve just been unlucky! the mouth usually heals brilliantly with no help, but if you see no improvement then just get some ABs from the vet; as the man says don't muck about trying to dose them if you use the wrong antibiotic or the wrong amount you can cause all sorts of long term problems
  24. you dont know my wife..........................
