  1. i put up a decent shed when i moved in here, first the wife started leaving her crap in there ("just till i get it sorted out") so i moved out of the shed and into the old (disused!) outside lav, bit cramped but workable. then she started putting her junk in there too, so i had to move into the tiny little lean-to where i keep animal feed, the dog-meat freezer etc. fecking ridiculous. i was thinking about making another shed, but i know what will happen.......
  2. what are jackals like as quarry? fast? stamina? much fight in them?
  3. bread and cheese and an apple if i'm lucky
  4. i remember a programme a few years ago some twat made a bear-proof suit, showed him getting hit by a pick-up, rolled down a rocky hill and all that lark, fecking bears wouldnt come near him, just legged it terrified!!!!
  5. do you think so? i'm always open to suggestions, but personally i have found metacam to work better than rimadyl. to be honest i have no experience of carprofen
  6. i think youll get it right tozer. for me, one little thing might be not to put either dog in a position where it is retrieving stuff when the other dog is present, at least until both are proficient and experienced
  7. nothing to do with a club, but i used to live about 5 miles from diss, and there was some wonderful hunting to be had round there............
  8. very much doubt the snake will even try to swallow that ridiculous suit.
  9. was that before or after BSE? and swine flu? SARS? and feck knows what other diseases they keep telling us are going to devastate the world population, but The Government will save us, they really care about us and are just brilliant.

i think the conservatives promised a free vote if they were in government - they are not in government, there is a conservative/libdem coalition, which is very different. to be honest, the worst thing which could have happened is for a free vote in this parliament because we would have lost. and there will only be one shot at this. we need a conservative majority to make a free vote worthwhile, and even then i fear it could be very close.
  11. using dogs to hunt up doesnt spoil them for the lamp in the slightest. mine will stay at heel when i tell them, or go hunt up at night if i tell them, or when i have the lamp they will come straight back after a run (whether they catch or not) without being called: i train them that turning the light out means "come back", not too difficult really, just needs a bit of pateince from you until the penny drops with the dog. in broken scrub and standing corn, where you can easily miss a squatting rabbit when you shine around, i let the dogs hunt up at night and simply light up the dogs at work.
  12. beast they wouldnt go that far away from me tbh,and their recall is excellent,i use the kelpie x also and shes very determined at times but its on and off at the minute, shes never gone too far.the saluki x's are very obedient, the one dog i find with an excelleent nose at times is a dog from lucas, hes flushed a few big rabbits from large expanses of trees and scrub.its a good craic and a handy way of letting the dogs have a bit of fun too, i wasnt doubting their recall bud, just that a whistle carries further than a shout. and is more discreet!!! about the collar, its just that deer can
  13. n uke the whole f***ing region. they are just barbarians.
  14. always wondered how scruffy old bob managed to have so much money, and yet only ever had a couple of records in the charts many years ago... i have a problem giving money to the third world, for many years charities such as oxfam (long before geldof got his nose in the trough) were helping the africans, so now we have many more mouths to feed over there and yet they are no nearer to feeding themselves. these barren lands can only support a finite amount of human life, and even when they have wiped out all the wildlife and rainforests and farmed the whole continent in their primitive fa
  15. let him shake, just a pup playing, and retrieving is often taught as a game anyway. he will grow out of it. just dont sicken him of fetching, just a few times per day is plenty. good luck with pup
  16. maximus, the voice of experience! jigsaw, get them to recall to a whistle, if you are hunting forestry. you might want to get a tracking collar too, else they may pull a deer and you wont see them for hours, until they have eaten the bugger!!! in more open areas i walk across the wind, and the dogs will hunt off along scent away upwind, so to the side of me. collie crosses make great hunters, but saluki crosses will too, many are just run off slip so dont get the opportunity to learn nose work, but yours will pick it up soon enough. love working the dogs loose myself, not knowing
  17. boergreyhound NOT boerboel! they are a mongrelly greyhound type, bit like yote hounds or roo hounds.
  18. i dont like the bit about preventing them from leaving britain, in fact i think we should buy their tickets for them, and then arm their enemies with as much hardware as we can get our hands on - chance they may not make it back at all then! "Peachy Carnehan: They're savages here, one and all. Leave 'em to go back to slaughterin' babes, and playin' stickball with each other's heads, and pissin' on their neighbors."
  19. your doctor thinks you are putting it on so you can go on the sick........
  20. afew feet away is fine, you are nearly there, just need to get into the dogs head that you are part of that scenario! i think if you can shoot more things for her to carry, she will learn to mouth stuff when she hasnt got into full drive, in other words when she hasnt killed herself. there is a massive difference, a dog which has hunted and caught something for itelf needs to release its energy and does this by biting and ragging. a dog carrying something already dead hasnt got so "high" beforehand, so doesnt need to come down again by biting
  21. i dont think you should muzzle the dog, ray, hes chewing for a reason you just need to figure out what the reason is!! get hold of some perspex sheets and screw them on, he wont get his teeth into them. beware of metal, i have come across a couple of dogs which tried to rip metal bits off walls and ended up snapping teeth.
  22. when i was young i would walk miles and miles, probably ten miles a day at least, and coming home with even a single rabbit was a real red letter day. i spent many years hunting land where game was very thin on the ground, caught quite a bit, but had i been driving at that time i would have travelled further afield. and yet, working a dog in these barren conditions not only turned every catch into a real event, but it taught a dog to really hunt, really get on and seek out its prey, and to try desperately not to let it escape. these were cur dogs, and they would learn every trick that a wild d
  23. i wish him luck, but i just think he is a bit of a div to be honest, and i expect he will struggle
  24. now that stuff will kill you graveyard dead.......... had some of that a few years ago, i can just think about it now and feel bad! . christ, i had the dry heaves, the drizzling shits, the jakeleg, feck me i'm starting to sweat and shiver all at once just remembering!!!! sloe gin for me, or yep, the brandy and baileys option always slips down smooth
