  1. Sounds like you got it sorted and the dogs doing well. I was away from the dogs for a decade or more. Big regret
  2. all be moaning then we can't go lamping
  3. Mine will give a squeak of frustration if his right up close and it goes pete tong and he can't quite get it. Maybe if you could pick some really easy runs so the dog aint got time to worry about barking as his all over it may help ? Just a guess here
  4. Been extremely dry so far for weeks now which in its self is quite some thing around here. Cooled down a lot last couple of days. Its starting to feel like a proper old fashioned winter
  5. Snaring is an art so you could get a lot of satisfaction catching the odd bunny
  6. Personally I like to put the brake some some times. A few nights last year the dog would nail 5 or 6 rabbits in a row and I would turn round and go home. I only needed so many for my own use. On the other hand if he missed plenty I was more inclined to carry on
  7. two must keep you busy for sure. Seems to be two lines of thought for training. I notice some don't let them see quarry till trained and others get them learning in the field. You see Kens pup on here out ferreting and learning on the job a treat. I found with mine though once he new there was stuff to hunt at about 4 months it was a constant clash of wills trying to reign him in. Wish I could have another run at it and do the whole thing different. Good luck with your two and keep us posted
  8. Got yours bookmarked too Allan http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/252852-pigeon-breast/?do=findComment&comment=2771510 there is such a thing as too many bookmarks can't find sod all when you want it
  9. I think it was secretagentmole or similar that put up a pigeon pie recipe which involved simmering the carcass for a fair old while then taking the flesh off and that worked a treat and the meat did fall off after few hours simmer. I can't find the link at the moment Just found this in me favorites mmmmm http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/50614-rabbit-and-pigeon-pie/
  10. I did try joks recipe but i had a whole pigeon sat in about a cm of tin toms. So unless I am missing some thing which is quite likely how does that work. Get some pics up jok next time you do one
  11. my dinner in work tomorrow. Might be a long lunch break
  12. lol jok you sure they are not poussin's
  13. lol your standards dropped rather quickly
  14. I get the impression any thing really. Just depends what you want be it just a marker which gives you the full range of dogs or some thing to catch bolters as well Round here my best dog has been a jack russell
  15. Jamie oliver says 4 hours http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/game-recipes/slow-cooked-pigeon/ maybe should stuck with it would have given up in the end. Or hammer the hell out of it with the mallet first
  16. its been in 3 hours now and still not great but it will have to do. Might get one of the blokes in work to drive the lorry over it
  17. After seeing Tiercel's grub yesterday I fancied similar but had to use pigeon. Was hoping to have it for super but suffice to say I just had porridge because after 2 hours gas mark 4 you could still play tennis with it pigeon never does seem to give in easy unless you go for a rare breast in the pan
  18. They are a full time job and in a couple of years when you get home from work on a friday and fancy going out the dog stills needs walking and sorting out. You sound pretty busy all ready lol
  19. Spring cabbage tucked in for the winter another 1 ton bag of compost started. Handy way of doing things plenty of leeks all ways handy picked some baby beets and salsify to bring home
  20. Looks delicious Allan I love that sort of cooking as far as slow cookers Squeamish personal I find things cook well in plenty of liquid if you want tender and well cooked. Also the high and low are the same I learned. Just high reaches that temp quicker. Flavours tend to more deep and condensed but some times that isnt a good thing if you have added too much of the wrong thing
  21. just let them run around the yard with the collar on they soon get used to them. Then they won't faff about on the day
  22. Excellent been dry salting mine and they keep there crunch for sure. Your mum certainly got the most out of the vinegar and good ideas too
