  1. i said starve them for a couple of days, the lads ferret wont go down more than a couple of foot and he wants to find out if he can get them to work. his best chance in my opinion is to get them to do it out of hunger for the first couple of times until they switch on. if the ferret goes down and kills at least hes made progress from nothing to something.then at least he then knows they will work. my advice was to do it until he got them working as they were just pets to start with, it wasnt to do it everytime he was to take them out. no ones talking a days ferreting here mate just trying
  2. I think you are wrong mate I had dogs that lamped rabbits night after night year after year [weather and health permitting] .
  3. what species of deer you talking about? i understand that preban deer dogs take abit of getting going back on the rabbits when they have been catching alot of deer and a good deer dog will run past rabbits to go to deer. however for you to say a dog refused to run rabbits because they wanted easier to catch bigger stuff just sounds abit daft. wouldnt be nice if you could go out and catch 20 deer in a night as easy you could go and catch 20 rabbits preban? the old school boys would have been very wealthy people
  4. is a deer easier to catch than a rabbit then? i dont think a preban deer dog would refuse to run a rabbit because a deer was easier to catch.
  5. varity is the spice of life. even dogs will get bored of chasing the same quarry day in day out.
  6. great clip that 246. throw enough work at em and you can steady them. ive seen some very very headstrong dogs calmed after alot of time spent working them in the field. the correct guidence combined with a shit load of work and you will have a steady dog.
  7. strange one that. it could just be bollocks for all we know.
  8. i havent been able to upload a picture on a post since they have changed all the format. i struggle with computers has it is without anyone changeing things.
  9. . half cross would be the way to go with them. good luck with which ever route you go down.
  10. pal has one early days yet 27 half will finish 28,lots a prey drive ,seem to produce a more lighter framed animal ,than the alli xs .a fancy giving a male of this xs my time .atb bunnys. ive seen one first X malonois/grey and i think thats around 28tts was speaking to a chap a couple of weeks ago who also has a firstX thats 28tts so he tells me. he was looking for a decent grey or grew brood bitch to breed with to get a pup for his self.
  11. starve the feckers for a couple of days before hand untill you get them going. sounds abit cruel i know but hunger should make them start working.
  12. yeah. looks a touch heavier set than the others
  13. if i needed a pup i would probably take a gamble depending what was in the lurcher. one of those pups draws my eye straight away

  19. ive found some of there cartridges abit smokey. the last hull cartridge i used was hull super fast 29gm 6 was told they have stopped producing them now. i found them to be the best hull i had tried.
  20. feck me jim ive been out all day and this is the last thing i ever expected to be reading when i got in. the bond between a man and his dog is a close one especially when you spend as much time in the field as you do. sorry to hear youve lost such a good worker/companion
  21. i reckon your right alot of the time it does come from the parents. my misses is scared of the pigeons in the town, now i find it fecking hesterical a grown woman shitting it over such a harmless creature. her mum is exactly the same if not a little worse with any birds close by.
  22. if theres plenty of bunnies there like you say look at it has a good opertunity to let the young dog see some game.

i know myself how much brain surgery can take out of you when it goes well. i wouldnt even like to hazzard a guess on how hes feeling now. hope he gets better soon.
  24. alot of variables in that question. i dont think theres a right or wrong answer, theres things like old injurys that can come through, has the dog in question had a hard or easy working life. also each dog is different along with each owners expectations.
