Llyen x smaller but nice shaped. That's 1 of last years lambs to the left.much nicer sheep than the Dorsets. Much calmer and easier to work with.
-
That's the idea of having the beltex over the ewes. It keeps the lamb size down a little and they fetch a bit better price from the butcher. I will eventually go get around to keeping the llyen cross. High lambing percentages then. Texel x mule they are big exceptionally long ewes
-
I got 6 Dorsetshire which are 5 year old and are going this year as I am changing over breeds. I've got 2 texel x llyens yearlings 2 texel x white face Welsh mules which are yearlings too, and 3 of last years ewes lambs out of them which are 3/4 texel 1/4 white face mule. I am going to stay down the texal cross route and use the same breed of tups each year. I only had the Dorsets last year and brought the others in a month or so before tupping I am lucky with the tups as there's a farmer just down the road who breeds some top glass sheep and he hired me the tups.

I am going to start lambing end of February. Just hope i haven't slipped up and the weather is bad has I lamb outdoors. I've gone for pure beltex and a charollais x beltex tups this time around. Hopefully have a nice easy lambing.

Nice to see the dogs out working for you. Like I said on the thread when the leg got broken I had a lab x with both the front and back leg pinned and she led a full and healthy working life.
-
If its your first dog then I think you have gone down the wrong route to start with. As cute has beddy whippets may look they can get a very stubborn streak from the beddy and be a little hard headed at times. Have you thought about going to a few local puppy training classes? They are cheap enough and everybody there is in the same boat, all got a unruly dog of some description.
-
I've never seen that before mate, it's a good idea. I got 3 pieces of tin sheeting and 4 8ft posts and 2 hurdles and put a temp pen up with some lorry sheeting on for the roof to put mine in for 24hours, ring them, put stockholme tar on them because I've got 2 active pig earths bordering the ground, then let them go. I may try some bags myself next year it would be easier.

I think goats take a bit of keeping in, also the bloody things will eat hedge rows like they are going out of fashion.
-
Sorry to hear that mate. The worst part about me owning dogs is the misses moaning when I make her pick the shit up??
-
How come you have got plastic jackets on the lambs mate?
