  2. Totally disagree with most of that neil, the standard of terriers and their owners as been on the decline for decades.Even in the "good olde days" there was the mischievous chancer on the make and in the mix amidst the many genuine and vastly experienced working terrier folk about.Genuine working terriers were once common and the stamp was never mentioned, workers came ready bred to it.The rosette hunters, the dollar chasers, the internet and the ego are all a modern trait that as swiftly crawled into working terriers, the terrier men of olde, most of them, would not have suffered the fools we take a
  3. An impossible question to answer in less than a book, the terrain, the individual Hare, how fair you run them etc.etc.,plays a major part in the equation,i know land that id have been lucky to catch 1 in 10 and land were 2 and 3 from a few runs was common. The biggest factor is the mutt itself,a Saluky hybrid will out match any other on its preferred ground whilst a Whippet cur could catch more off their seat than on a run.Id say the average bred mutt equipped to run an Hare would do well to catch 3 out of 10,again im not talking about specialist bred coursing stock,i would have been happy with 3
  4. Ive met more decent lads with lurchers and terriers than the feckwit minority we all despair of,if the attention of the feckwits got to us all there would be nobody left hunting.

  6. I wish rabbits looked that clean and intact after my bushers made contact with them, whats salvaged would rarely keep a ferret fed.Useful looking mutts you have there mucker.
  7. Some peoples ultimate test is comprehending whats written in front of them.Even on the same page.

  9. An average lurcher will muller a fox an average hare will muller an average lurcher.send a few average dogs my way then half the country looking a fox dog an from what you said your a running dog man stick to that Id prefer a dog thats a tad above average on both,
  10. The facts are that a small lurcher may be as keen to bush and thrash about as a terrier, only one of them will get through thick cover, the other will try its best. I never once said that the beddy x whippet was as good as a terrier through thick cover, thats why i own terriers and not beddy x whippets. What i was saying was the beddy x whippet i saw would get through it maybe a bit slower and at the expense of a few skin tears ears etc but in the end she got the job done just as well as any other bushing dog ive seen. It would not get the job done as well then would it ?,not having a knock
  11. Ive never locked the door or had a lurcher or terrier stolen whilst my wife as owned Akitas,id love to see a nugget face one with an ego, blade or dishonest intent, the wifes are seldom controllable,at all the right times, thats why we own them, beware the nuggets and dog nappers.
  12. I know lads who can knock 5 farms and come away with 5 new permissions. I think your face has gotta fit and some lads have got the gift of the gab. Could sell Ice to the Eskimos, you know the type. I've been door knocking on and off for best part of 10 years now and had very little success. I've got 2 golf courses which I can lamp with written permission, a smallish farm with ferreting only permission and no dogs allowed and have just acquired (today) some crow decoying on a really big dairy farm. I've no interest in crow decoying. But it's the only pest control he wants doing at the m

  14. Its shitty when you lose a mutt, ive lost more than my share and managed to carry on over the years, the last one as taken the soul out of me,its the first time ive thought about jacking it in.PTS is shitty mucker yet often the way,do what you need to do,then get a pup to drag you from the pits, good luck.
  15. No id buy a Collie /Grey,there is nothing that they are not nearly capable of,mine caught 47 bluebottles on the lamp in less than an hour.

Most blokes would love an adventourous woman, especially in the kitchen.
  17. How many people are honestly capable of testing a dog with honesty and not ego.?.
  18. An average lurcher will muller a fox an average hare will muller an average lurcher.
  19. Another nail in the Black and Tan Terrier coffin.
  20. As most of the dog breeders and sellers could talk a thrush out of a tree id not put to much emphasis on a yadder on a phone.
  21. There is and as always been only one thing a lurcher as ever needed to do,please its owners hunting lifestyle,if it needs to do anything more you should not own it.
  22. I cannot decide between the Collie/Grey or a Beddy/Grey as my favourite lurcher,id not own either yet they are my favourites,it may make sense to some.
  23. "second best won,t do" hits the nail on the head Mik,im not for one moment trying to get across to anybody that this is the best stud or working breeding in the land, that would be naive and egoistic, yet its honest and i want a pup from this dog,i rate him from what he as shown in his first season,i don,t believe a dog as ever impressed me as much so soon,as im easily impressed that may not account for much. Its about what was written on the tin with his parents,i want another tin of that.
  24. Plenty do with rich reward, the land and cover you hunt should be the marker for the type of busher you own,if i hunted a lot of open countryside id own a Beagle or hound,or a combo of each.I hunt a lot of industrial sites and heavy gorse, briar and a rural landscape abounding with such, thus terrier bushers that are also useful on more open and wooded grounds.Hounds and Beagles are bred to work a more open landscape.
