Im on the look-out for a Genuine dam,Deerhoundy/Collie based,no whippet,Bull or terrier in the mix, first dog in last out type of lurcher, pace, power and commitment and an excellent strike rate. What i offer is a stud, only a sapling, yet ripping pages out of the lurcher manual, bred as right as they come.Id be taking 1st and 3rd choice pups and don,t want anything over 6 left on the bitch.MY only interest is with genuine folk that may be able to assist my endeavour, the rest ill live with.Im posting on here as i don,t know anything worth breeding from, somebody on here may,any genuine help pm me,the

A genuine lurcher should be bred to equip itself to be able to cover a multitude of hunting lifestyles and kennels,To many one trick pony,s bred now.

Who Is The Craziest Lurcherman On Thl?
morton replied to jukel123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
When i started out it was always in company and i sought the company of like minded souls to share the experiences, now i prefer the quiet isolation of lone hunting and prefer the solitude and the less demanding nature that company cannot give me.The days i hunt in company,Boxing day etc, seem more enjoyable after the enforced hermitage,i used to be scared of the dark, thats why i take a dog along now. -
Who Is The Craziest Lurcherman On Thl?

Thats a tad harsh,id say 95% ,being serious though in all my time with lurchers, terriers and ferrets i found the lurcher owners generally came 3rd,yet the lads and lasses i respect the most usually owned a lurcher.I spent 7 years in the ,s without a 9 to 5 job,it interfered with my hunting and me and a close lurcher mucker worked to earn brass to eat, feed and tend the mutts and put petrol in the motor for our life in pursuit of a chase, honest or otherwise.Ive nothing but respect now for the youngsters entering the game, the genuine types,i know how difficult it is to find work now,in my time j -
You are possibly more optimistic than me Rory,id have said 98%,as long as 2 or 5 % are put into honest kennels now then lads seeking genuine Beddy,s have a chance,IF THEY DO THEIR BLOODY HOMEWORK,then in the future the % will rise and rise.Alas with the Bedlington it always seems to be 1 step forward and 3 back, because of the chancers and ego,s in the breed for financial reward.Marmite terriers the Beddy, sadly the reason many hate them is because they have encountered the majority that are bred,if they source the genuine minority bred, they will always have a Beddy in the kennel, often as the m

Purely Show Lurcher V Purley Working Lurcher
morton replied to jerry attrick's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I too remember the shows in the early ,s,generally they were a meet and greet and the show side was never taken seriously, many an honest lurcher pup was sourced at them then.Slowly the ribbon chasers have taken over and the majority of shows now are polluted with pampered pets and the nuggets that groom and shampoo them, fair play if thats what they desire, don,t masquerade under a Working dog umbrella.Id never source a pup from any show now,the honesty does not come with the shows or the dogs bred for them now,on the whole.A good looking mutt will not work with less intent than an ugly- un,if b -
The gimmick Hosker had some believe was that the dog was a world beater,at the time the Dales where resplendant with bunnys and any dog that saw residence was going to come to grips with them,i had a terrier that caught 11 in reed beds above Airton, spud lacked pace and determination, fact, possibly why it jacked, another fact, saying that i witnessed better dogs than Spud jack on rabbits when they saw to many around Malham, they became that accustomed to them they finally began to ignore them.Again few on here have ever had a dog that saw so many rabbits day after day after week after week after mo

Broaden your horizons grasshopper, the main reason for the versility of the lurcher is its versilatile breeding, horses for courses, many a lurcher makes an honest guard dog. I have an open mind old man . But a lurcher is a hunting dog not a guard dog. In your opinion what does the Doberman bring to a lurcher? Possibly the same as ive earlier posted .

You would see none if we all had that same attitude He would have left 4 for another day,id have slipped every dog at hand on 5 hares, and what was left the week and weeks after that.
-
Spent a day or 3 in the field with a Doberman/Grey a few decades ago,ive rarely seen a dog jump better,it owned a decent nose and proved a useful bunny and fox dog,Hares were more than a match for it and it lacked wind,id not own one.

Mine are born outside and separated from the dam at 6 or 7 weeks, then housed on their own outside, they have an habit of fretting for a day or 2 then settle into the environment they where born to,their socialisation starts and ends outside.I don,t want my workers in the house and learning house habits.
-
Feed it well, educate and enter it the same way and it will do what Whippets do,its as hard or easy as you make it mucker, remember its a Whippet though.
-
As there appears Border in the mix a fluffy toy fox may be the only one it ever see,s .
-
Get it out on a regular basis in an environment where it can find scent a chase that will encourage it to chase, follow and hunt,as you,ve never done earthwork you may have to learn along with the sapling,or lose it,happy hunting.

A dog unsafe with stock is down to stewardship,Georges dogs were seldom lent to lurcher breeding,in his kennels.Hybrid vigour produces more honest Beddy lurchers than names behind the breeding, then the kennel they reside in aids their ultimate progress,at times. You can polish a turd and make it glisten, its still smells.

The best ratters are terriers, few terriers drop to ground on rats ,if you want a bushing companion that rats id source another terrier,if you want a busher that will not drop in id source a beagle type,if you want the best of both worlds id own 1 of each.
-
Hoskers poetic tripe and spud was the worst thing that could have ever happened to Beddy lurchers, all the young tyro,s expected more from their new found "wonder Spud" than their charges were capable of.Spud was a third rate lurcher in a fourth rate kennel, fact.

You would never own a working terrier if you were right in the head, especially Bedlingtons, thank feck i have a Lakey as welll.
-
If you need to respect your elders you are hunting for all the wrong reasons, what i found was my elders where fecking nuggets ,much of the time, its about hunting etiquette, you have it or you don,t,fecking pics will never serve hunting etiquette.Hunt with honest intent, everything else follows.
-
Id expect you to ask, best bushing dogs ive ever had the pleasure to hunt with, best fox bolting dogs ive ever seen or owned, the most versatile hunting companion ive ever witnessed, the best terrier ive ever seen in rocks and the terrier that seldom got smacked in duty, for season after season after season,i had Black terriers and Lakey whilst i owned Beddy,s,i got rid of the Blacks as they where 2nd rate,i still own a lakey that will be bred back to my Beddy dog,Beddy,s offer more than any other terrier, fact. The only thing i expect from a terrier is honesty,i find Bedlingtons more honest than mos

Gratis if it goes to a working terrier home,as working terrier homes are less common than the average working Bedlington, now im extracting the urine.Id never sell a working terrier to a working home,id sell one to a pet home though.Honest homes are harder to find than honest Beddy,s,fact.Ive 2 Beddy,s here that i will never breed from,i gave one to my daughter and the wife the other, both bred from the best working Bedlington ive had the pleasure to graft, for 9 years before i retired her.Ive her nephews and nieces here and in my lads kennel that are grafting as well as any fox working terrier s

Id rather not,any terrier i own that ends up as a digging dog id rather put in a digging kennel, ive a dog and bitch here that have been dug to less than 10 times this season, their brother i let go as been dug to over 20 times, horses for courses and all that,i don,t have kennel space or graft for a digging dog, especially in the rocks i work. The best working terrier ive ever owned or seen at work grafted fox in rocks for over 7 seasons, never dug to and seldom marked,a bedlington that is the mainstay of ALL my terrier breeding.

The facts are Z Many of us hunted before you, without the need for pics and we carried on hunting, other facts are that many of OUR hunting companions no longer hunt because of pics some of our hunting companions posted on here, fact.Posting pics is the realm of the naive now,no matter how well intentioned the rationale. Its a sad reflection of our hunting lifestyles now perhaps, yet a fact.Id rather have a day at the deep end without a portrayed image over an image portrayed on camera.
