  1. I believe a 23" Beddy/Grey would serve far more purpose as a general ratch about mooching companion than any Bull x,as others have mentioned,"horses for courses" edible quarry and the Beddy lurcher is a far superior mutt to its Bull x cousin,at times both types throw a massive spanner in the works.
  2. There is possibly a reason for that?,its easy enough to breed a coursing dog in 1 generation, its far more difficult to breed an honest lurcher the same way.
  3. Injury is the cause of the dogs decline in work ethic, many a mutt recovers from their injury and again work with their previous purpose, alas yours may never again reach its earlier potential,id source the service of a decent bone man for a 2nd opinion, until then the dog may slowly recover, many do,many don,t.The little it may offer in the field is better than zilch, ive just retired one to a pet home,it took me over 12 months to make the decision that i knew 12 months earlier, the comfort of a pet lifestyle better suited my once illustrious hunting companion, good luck.
  4. I mentioned the dogs height to show a point, not all Bedlingtons are bred from big and throw such, catching hares on a moor was to show another point about their versatility, nothing more.Plus it was me that had a terrier backed up by another, another point is i was not there,my lad,a youngster at the time was out with a supposed more experienced terrierman that released his own dog after the Beddy had entered. The biggest threat to the Bedlington as a grafter is the nuggets that breed some of them, the next is the nuggets that see the Bedlington as the whipping boy of the terrier world based on the
  5. I work a lot of rocks that cannot be breached, plus i want the fox to vacate its underground lair. The vast majority of the work all my terriers see is ratching about on top and pushing cover for the waiting gun etc.A terrier that better suits a digging kennel is wasted with me and becomes a working liability,at times,a terrier that becomes a proficient bolter and only as to be dug to far less frequently is my working terrier of choice, thus i breed and kennel accordingly. My lads main Beddy now bushes with aplomb, bolts any fox that wishes to bolt and as to be dug to at speed,or the fox is dead,i

  7. All my Bedlingtons are bred with earth work in mind, the biggest un ive owned was a 15" dog that weighed about 14lb,mine are usually 14" dogs and 13" bitches,Many Bedlingtons, are far to big and heavy to fit,id never breed from such as i want them to bush and enter to fox below.Bedlingtons have always been higher on the leg than the average terrier and there as always been the big-uns about throughout their history.Ive possibly been fortunate that mine throw to a working type, the Fell infusion certainly assists that, the Beddy gene is so dominant it only takes a couple of generations to breed bac
  8. At the side of you i look younger mush,if we have to tell them then we should not,yet if me and you don,t mush who will,if anybody wants to know about Beddys ask me or Alun,if anybody wants an honest soul with no gripes ask Alun.If they want an argument ask me.
  9. I must have been doing something wrong for over 3 decades, ive worked mine above and below to a standard better than the average Spaniel, hound or terrier, fact.Ive worked ground and flushed and bolted "STUFF" that another man would have needed 3 dogs to do the same, ive done it with 1 terrier, ive worked land that no dog could have possibly done on their own, many have tried, ive caught stuff that no other busher could have connected with, grouse, pheasant, partridge, rabbit, rat, fox and roe, then rabbit and hare, this bitch caught 3 hares off their seat on a moor in 1 afternoon, again fact, then bolted more
  10. I wish i could become older and wiser,it must be a Welsh trait Alun.20 years ago we wanted to get "It Right" with Bedlingtons," 20 years earlier they made the same mistakes, twenty years earlier than that the same mistakes where still made because of fecking ego,s and chancers. If there where only 7 people left to further the Beddy cause with some semblance of honest intent i believe me and you would be in the top 5 with SK and me and you again,id be first though /
  11. 73,000 illegal immigrant Polak,s can,t be wrong, swan and muddy carp is the food of the immigrant gods.
  12. True Alun,i don,t rate Granitor dogs,i work mine below, ive never worked all Granitors bred, you used one to drop size, yet ive seen big Granitors,as you are one of the most honest of sorts we can agree to disagree and still find agreement. Its like a bag of liqourish allsorts, there is one in the bag to suit all,at times. How you keeping Alun?.
  13. Heard from a few old boys that badger is actually quite tasty, don't fancy trying it myself mind Badger hams are a treat, ask Topper for the recipe, its really tasty and rich.
  14. What i found with the ferrets Socks was once they had eaten mole they never went near it again.Years ago down Wales, picking tatties ,seagulls was the only food i had for the ferrets and they eat it with reluctance.
  15. The only thing i know about fox meat is it stinks like a fox,ive attempted to feed it to the dogs and ferrets and they would not touch it,i know a lad that became ill and bloated after eating fox flesh and ended up in hospital and also know of the best fox killing lurcher ive witnessed that used to eat hung fox with relish,if its cooked right it possibly tastes right,it looks right to eat.
  16. Useful looking crew you have there, its not what you catch its the day out and the quality of the hunt that matters,id much rather have 27 good hunts and no catch than 27 catches and no hunt, again grand looking team there mucker.
  17. "working dog lads wont pay silly price tags",the only reason there are silly prices for working dogs is because some "working dog lads" started the ball rolling.Look at the price of Coursing bred stock and the ego,s that throw the odd name about and have the nuggets parting with many, many hundreds of £,s,look at the price of the average Lakey and Black terrier with a name before it.Ego,s sell dogs for top dollar and bigger ego,s source and buy them.
  18. I fail to understand that line of thinking S.The majority of fox i thrash from cover, especially thick brambles, have an habit of moving more sleekly and faster than their far smaller terrier cousins, even the ones with thick jackets, jackets that are less dense than Charlie boys, the jacket never halted a fox in flight or its terrier pursuer,id say it aided both to push through better.
  19. Source any Beddy post on here and ill possibly have an input, the majority of those times ill tell folk to tread carefully as the vast majority of the dogs advertised as bedlingtons are not fit for purpose and are bred with ego and dollar in mind, ill also point out that there are a few honest souls about in the breed, well done muckers.Ill also point out that id not have terrier in a lurcher,im the Beddy,s numero uno fan club member, yet know there are better options in lurcher breeding. The main thing i attempt to get across to folk wishing to dip their toe into the world of working Bedlingtons i
  20. Total rubbish,a bushing terrier will bush to the standard its been educated to,let them get out of control and any terrier will bush to its own devices, away and out of sight and sound.Educate and train them to bush to the owners command and the "bush" is under control.Ive found Bedlingtons to be more responsive to control and command than many a terrier ive owned.Ive put 1 bedlington into a pet home because it was ignorant to command, possibly my fault as i did not have the expertise to educate and train it better.Id expect any bushing terrier to enter,a terrier that did not enter id not be hap
  21. The best Bedlington ive ever had the pleasure to work was more KC than anything else, she was not the norm and as she was bred many generations ago the KC,s bred since have fared worse with every generation. All the Beddy hybrids i work now are bred directly from her,i bred away from her once and lost the work ethic, line breeding back to her was my salvation, the Beddy/Fell combo,s whatever % is the Beddy salvation.Another thing i found with Bedlingtons was to breed away from the Granitor influence, its finding the minority of Granitor,s worth breeding from, before anybody gets into their high seat

  23. I still find it difficult to believe that the twats that dangle a worm on here still catch fish, ego,s are the ruination of a working kennel.
  24. As the Beddy Working gene pool is not especially abundant with PROVEN grafters that are known to more than a select few, then any PROPER UNS do need to be brought to the attention of a wider audience,as you may possibly know the dog at stud is a better representation of the breed than much of the nonsense now bred that may be far purer and far less Bedlington,in type and working character, type and working character will better represent the words "Working Bedlington" than much that attempts to occupy the Beddy throne now. What is a better option RT a Beddy at stud that commands a large stud fee
  25. The reason i own bushing terriers is for them to thrash cover and make the occupant vacate its domain,so as to put it in front of the gun or dog awaiting,id rather the bushers did not connect, handy at times, yet not their purpose, their purpose is to bush and shift.
