Wanted Border Collie For Stud
morton replied to rabbitman1234567's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
Jump over the average farm gate and you will find a Border.Id not use a straight Border,a lurcher based Collie would serve far better purpose, good luck. -
nice one i like the rosellas bet it was nice to see them out flying about..i have a small flock of avairy bred bush type budgies that were born to my avairy, might be tempted to try them in spring atb All you need to do is put several wire funnels in your aviary sections, stick a branch through initially for the birds to find their way back. Its best to do it when the birds are breeding as it encourages them to return to their partners and nestbox. The Rosella,s were often a bright flash of red flitting through the trees in unison,11 of them at one stage, sadly the hawk flew faster and hungr

The Queen had an aviary of liberty budgies, ring necks have colonised tracts of southern England. Many of the less rare Macaw species were often kept at liberty, especially Green winged as they have an habit of flying in small circles, after being educated to their surroundings.I had a flock of Rosella,s that were allowed their liberty and bred and thrived for a season,a spuggy hawk put a massive dent into that enterprise.

The Altcar estate used to hold regular Hare shoots and Coursing meets,to many Hares meant for poorer Coursing meets and Hares prone to more disease. If the Hare population is managed efficiently it used to serve all interested parties. Now,because of the ignorance of the ban,the gun is the recognised tool of control.I hate to see the carnage inflicted by the gun,i hate more that its legal to massacre vast numbers of Hares with a gun and illegal to catch a few in a more sporting canine manner. As others have stated many landowners now seem to have a policy of kill em hard rather than suffer the sc

Id spend many a morning around the A1 and hares that met more than their share of running dogs, the sport was the finest around and few Hares were killed.Same dogs, heading towards Scarborough and we often caught far,far more.Same ground and terrain, less educated Hares.

One of the finest fox slayers ive witnessed was a 29" blue failed track Greyhound,it cost me £25,i worked it for a year, lined a bitch with it and spent more time accounting for what it lacked than what it offered, its progeny where OK,geez the amount of time i carried them from the field when the field became to much for them, they ALWAYS lack wind,ALWAYS.! good run on an hare,1 fox is about their worth. The main reason Greys where bred away from was to improve the aptitude of the Hunting hound.Because of the earliest of hunting laws, that were augmented to be prejudicial to the serfs, lurchers evo

I like Greyhounds,i like what they offer on the track and what the best of them offered at Coursing meets.Ive never owned or seen one that could compete with a piss poor lurcher. The reason that lurchers became the dominant hunting jukel is because Greyhounds failed to.All the best lurchers have Grey in the mix,the more diluted the more competent the lurcher. i thought lurchers became popular to hide the shape of the greys because greys were for royalty.only had what people call longdogs.all running dog for me. They bred them to herding mutts, chopped their tails off and eventually cal

Deerhound Greyhound Or Bedlington Greyhound Stud
morton replied to bigjase1's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Id say % of lurchers are lurcher to lurcher bred, the grew influence is often useful, yet well diluted in the best of lurchers.Collie,Saluki,Deerhound,Whippet,Bull have more honest influence on lurcher production than any Grey ever did.Who breeds a litter of lurchers for what a Grey offers as a worker?. Greyhounds and whippets, the two most slated dogs on this site. Collie, bull and saluki more honest influence, really? Honesty in a dog to me, is trying it's utmost when in pursuit, and you don't get any more driven than whippets or greyhounds when in pursuit of quarry. You normally write a -

The best of lurchers ive owned earnt their stripes with some dubious practices. The facts are that id not advocate anyone to sink to the level that some do to introduce a runner at its quarry, ive never introduced a lurcher to early, ive often introduced them when the practice of introduction would make many folk shudder at the lengths ive sunk to.Ive sunk to sewer levels to introduce a reluctant enterer.Id leave any sapling until it was at least 7 months of age and then spend every working hour introducing it.If a dubious practice was the best way to educate a reluctant student id be dubious,id

Id not waste your time mucker, they always lack wind. You can train them like a lurcher, enter them like a lurcher, then realise the average lurcher is a better option in the field than any Greyhound, all the time.I tried it,twice,i never learnt the first lesson.

Fook sake tbat was years back, can remember seeing a few of them dug to as a wee guy haha and it must be my memory but there was very few shit ones among em haha wouldnt mind a couple of them now pal Nearly every working terrier that was not white bodied around here was a Border/Lakey hybrid in the late 70,s and early ,s.In less than a few decades the majority of Borders and Lakelands need more than hybrid vigour to resurrect their status as workers now. Is hybrid vigour the reason you cross your beddies aswell? Im still open to invites if you wanna show me a good un graft There is only

The Working Bedlington Terrier - Who Works Them?
morton replied to JackBrown's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
True, for every 100 litters of working Bedlingtons bred id not own 99 % of them. They are out there and meet more working terrier prejudice than any terrier ever bred, possibly because of the 99 % of feckwits, ego,s and chancers that have sneaked into the breed, fecking dollar and ribbon chasers. -

Your mellowing socks, what you really meant to say was worm the fecking thing and put more gruel in its dish.

I was potato picking in St. Davids a few decades ago and found a nest of Poley kits,i trapped the mother and put her in my Hob ferrets cage, the Poley killed the hob in less than a second.I put the kits in with her and fed them on seagulls for the next fortnight,my rationale was id wean the kits, release the jill and train the youngsters to ferret. The little pykey twat on the same camp that made an hole in the mesh put paid to my endeavour. Many years later i was gifted a Poley half bred ferret, geez it was fast and could kill.

Terriers were bred to be multi-purpose,althe time, all terriers were initially bred to serve more than 1,2,3 or even 5 purposes. Its modern terrierfolk and second rate terrier work that restricts a terriers work ethic.Kennel em,take em out on a leash and enter them, dig to em,extract em and put them back on a leash and back into the kennel.Terriers were bred to bush and fecking enter, its in the name. Now they are bred to shit in a kennel and be dug to,taken out to bush and scared to enter, earn a ribbon and sell a litter.I expect mine to bush to the same standards that they work below,i want t

The majority of terriers bred now would look better dangling on a string, especially knocking heads against a vinegar infused 29,er.
