  1. rock and earth don't effect the signal but metal can. I don,t like a collar on a terrier in rocks, many a terrier self entering with a collar on,mk.1,s and Bellmans ive encountered irregular readings. i would still always use a collar, i would rather have a irregular reading than not have one at all. just my views tho Ive argued more about a terrier with and without a collar on than any other subject, apart from working Bedlingtons.Ill guarantee you will have entered terriers in certain rock piles that a collar would have been useless in,plus they certainly snag terriers at times an
  2. The best allrounders had their Achiles heel,id own any decent dog with only 1 chink in their armoury.Id be more interested in a mutt that could muller a proper hare, lamp, ferret, own a taste for venison and feather, mark, hunt and do the same again and again,id be happy enough crossing a smelly vulpine off the list as long as the rest of the list was fulfilled. How many genuine fox dogs could live in the shadow of a genuine lurcher?.
  3. As soon as you compare a fox dog with a genuine Allrounder it becomes a tad confusing.
  4. I don,t think Liverpool will make the top 5,Everton now have brass and have lost their pride and have a poor manager,we don,t want Rooney back.Man U,City,Arsenal and Chelsea will juggle for top spot,Spurs may be the dark horse this season.

  6. How did your deerhound/collie/greyhound types fair on the fens Morton pre ban of course? First run they would hold their own with any Saluki hybrid and usually beat them to the catch,2nd run they often accounted well for themselves, then the saluki hybrids took it to another level.Bring the Saluki Hybrids into my domain and let them loose on Fell,Dale and Moor and they were always a poor 3rd to the better looking jukels.
  7. I agree in principal but got to play devils advocate and say what if it was outstanding in one department, ie 5/5 hares or rab's on the lamp? Cheers, D. Two of the finest working lurchers ive ever seen in the field,i was blessed with owning 1 of them, never made contact with a fox, they never entered and got bit or had any sort of a bad experience with a fox, they both ran many into submission and turned away with disdain when they caught up and both bred pups that mullered fox. Both those lurchers did far, far, far more, for many, many seasons than many a lurcher ive owned since, that muller
  8. Ive run the fens on a few occasions and hauled the odd hare homeward, ive seen dogs running on the fens,Saluki hybrids, that made the majority of mine look 3rd best.I went down the saluki route for a few years because of their Fen prowess, then i chucked my ego into the nearest fen ditch and hunted happier and cheaper, especially as i had 2 to many Saluki mongrels stolen.
  9. When bushing you need to cover a lot of ground quickly and the bushers need to be in front,a ferret would be a liability and would cover so little ground as to make it nearly useless.
  10. Any pics of yours Morton? Cheers Gafer posted a few, otherwise stand at the side of the road around the outskirts of Leeds and my lad will walk past with a few scruffy Rothburys and a magnificent looking 28" Adonis .
  11. if i owned a genuine Allrounder that swivelled away from fox id not be that bothered, the mutt would be a easier to feed. The best fox dogs ive seen never had Bull and Wheaton in the mix.I don,t like to see a dog cast a lazy eye over a fox,id breed from a dog that cared little for Charlie,id not breed from a dog that could not fill a freezer.
  12. The influence of Border Collie in Deerhoundy breeding cannot ever be underestimated,it took a good lurcher to another level.Hand on heart id never own a lurcher that was not heavily Deerhound and Border influenced, ive owned many a lurcher type and they all found their niche with me,only the Deerhoundy/Collie bred uns covered ALL of my hunting habits all the time, ive owned better dogs at certain disciplines,1 and 2 trick pony,s,ive never owned anything that could cover, with the same aptitude, the capability of an honest bred Deerhoundy/Collie lurcher. The terrain i hunt and what it holds is a s
  13. Any terrier that worked rocks on a regular basis needed the frame to fit the work,id not go near rocks with the majority of the barrel chested, short coupled brutes bred now,a dog higher on the leg with a good length, slat ribbed and agile, many a Lakey and Fell were bred this way only in the not to distant past, the Beddy and its hybrids is readily suited to this type of work,im not talking about the over-sized and heavy Beddy,s bred now,or in the past, they were as useless then as they are now.You only need to look at the average terriers breeding to realise the vast majority bred now are unsuite
  14. the fells feel cold because of the openness of the landscape, just like any other remote open area of the country. It doesn't matter were you are, if it's cold wet and windy you'll feel it if your stood around. Another reason i like rock piles,if the weather turns its easy to find shelter.
  15. stop end I had the sire of Russell tucks bitch if he could get to his fox he would kill it simple as the dog was 3/4 bedlington1/4 Lakeland and when he was in the ground many times over night sometimes days he would eat some of the fox plenty of pics on working bedlingtons on here mate atbI know a few terriers that are able to dispatch a fox underground, the reason i know this is because when there dug out they are with there fox and i have witnessed it. Yous are saying your terrier does this and that in the rocks and what im saying is unless you get to your dog in the rocks yous havent a flyi
  16. beddy greyhound 26tts I am gaz just your typical beddy cross deaf ears at time but hopefully will turn good The shape of that mutt stands out even from under its jacket,Collie in the mix N ?.
  17. I could walk away from a dozen different working terrier kennels with a digging dog,id struggle to find a find a terrier capable of working rocks, especially as the majority of kennels breed terriers that do not have the conformation for rock work.
  18. My old Beddy bitch did 6 seasons in rock piles that most would walk past now,as you rightly stated earlier terriers bred with the capability to work them are thin on the ground now,i find this a sad reflection on terriers as an whole now, they are bred away from their purpose.I retired the beddy a couple of years ago and last year a red Fell that could be entered in any pile and get a result. My lad as the main terriers now and worked rocks with the old terriers for years, his younger crew he,s had a couple of near misses in rocks and is reluctant to work piles he,s worked for years. His dogs are
  19. The majority of the Deerhoundy,s depicted on the clip are a poor representation of a Deerhound in its true sense, the original is a dog of folklore now and is many, many generations removed from its honest ancestry. The KC fecked the breed and it will never recover from the KC influence. The folk that blend the best of what the Deerhound had to offer, especially with a splash of Grey and Collie, will enter the working field and fare a damn site better with their charges than folk with a more pure bred un.The mongrel bred Deerhoundys about now are a far better representation of the true Deerhound,in
  20. The Poodle influence in any decent working Beddy breeding wil be so diluted as to make it no influence at all,the KC brigade added Poodle (still do),a working kennel never would.Ill guarantee pups bred along these lines have dollar as the reason and nothing more.
  21. You better put a stop to it now unless you want a few thousand disgruntled English selling up and heading your way, superb again.
  22. They run better, recover better and look better on barf, they run well, recover well and look ok,especially with supplements,on dry.Id say that the benefits of each diet will seldom be tested with the average dog and kennel.Id never feed dry if barf was available,id be happy to feed dry if it was not and few will see the difference.
  23. I do like to see folk getting their saplings out and about exploring their surroundings, scents and environment.I cannot state strongly enough how much emphasis i put into a saplings stock training, very well done. The majority of mutts become accustomed to standing stock and react accordingly,as the mutt grows into its physique and explores its running prowess it will react in a different manner to stock, especially stock that runs away from it,keep that in mind mucker, well done.
  24. The best working lurchers ive ever owned seldom ate much barf and worked accordingly,if id have known then what i know now id have had them on a barf diet,i did,nt and they grafted,i now know and feed the mutts far better on barf, they will never reach the potential of the mutts i had back then on dry meal and their catch, mainly dry in the summer months.
