  1. Many a mutt around Fife should be able to furnish its own needs,id buy a bag of decent dry for leaner times or stock a freezer when there is a glut.Visit your local butchers and ask to empty their waste, they pay to have them emptied, ask the butchers where they source their meat and source from there.Id be more inclined to lamb ribs and beef strippings than chicken carcase, good luck.
  2. I can only speak as I find ,max is seven and still takes everything and anything. You have a collie cross that's single handed on everything and anything, sorry I'm not buying it, not calling you a liar just don't believe it has been truly tested... They certainly exist, ive seem a few very, very useful Collie bred lurchers, nothing else in the mix and they equipped themselves above and beyond what many would accept as the norm, its getting lurcher to lurcher breeding with some honesty behind their heritage that stands decent uns above the usual dross.
  3. Stop it running them, get it fitter, even if you think its fit, start it off again on easy slips, the easier the better, let it build its confidence up and if it still yaps and catches learn to live with the noise.
  4. Ive nothing but respect for the folk that can get easy numbers,i warm a tad more to the folk that don,t have the luxury of numbers yet still put the effort in.
  5. Ive seen an awful lot of hancock bred lurchers over the years and i find they give the breed a bad name, the hancocks breed a massive amount of lurchers and they will produce the odd diamond or 3,sadly they produce more slag heap lurchers than anything else.As you rightly state TOMO better Collie bred jukels are sourced away from Hancocks kennels and the influence of a little something else makes for a more purposeful mutt.
  6. Surely it's about testing man and dog? Pushing that bit further. Plus when you're travelling 3-4 hours plus (each way) why aren't you going to make the most of it? A good feat without a doubt, but ever wonder why they have to travel so far? How long before it's 6 hrs or more travelling? Rabbits are not an infinite resource. A hard winter, vhd, mixie all take their toll. Remember Malham, used to be good. TC Some of my best permission was at the back of Malham tarn, the fields used to lift and run down warrens, literally. Now its a much harder and far less rewarding slog. The fence
  7. Well, I must have been hallucinating earlier this afternoon then when my deerhound bitch, (bred from a long line of workers or did I hallucinate that as well) was out with the terriers, and appeared to be appeared to be working (and working well) the game they turned out of cover. In my experience something north of 50% of UK deerhounds work live game which is probably a higher percentage of workers that you will find among collies these days most of which don't do anything more than chase balls around the park. Im more than pleased you own a Deerhoundy that see,s graft, few pures are work
  8. Its a fact that Collie curs are the most ridiculed type out there now,its also a fact that many of the ones bred deserve every ounce of ridicule bestowed upon them. The majority of folk base what they know about these curs on what they have seen or more often by what they have heard. The folk that don,t listen to rumours and source with a little more effort will never be without the Collie influence in their charges, nothing else out there comes remotely close to what the Collie offers.Every lurcher, apart from Coursing stock, should have a 1/4 Collie in the mix.
  9. Haha I don't run saluki crosses but I know a good number of lads that would laugh in your face for saying they don't like things that bite back that just shows you having seen any decent ones if youv seen any at all, yes I do run bull crosses and some of the best dogs Iv seen are collie greyhounds... for what they are bred for but I just think a deerhound collie greyhound isn't used much nowadays for a reason, if you want to run rabbits get yourself a beddy cross, if you want something for rabbit and the odd long ear on the lamp/daytime get a collie greyhound, you want something that's a jack
  10. I started it off by mentioning a Collie in the mix,i dare not mention ive always had a soft spot for Saluki infused runners.
  11. Hitler,Jews and Collie lurchers, you are one dumb feckwit mucker,it saddens me when i see your sort polluting the rank and file of lurcher ownership, thankfully you are a very small minority.. Time for bed Morton. I only got up 2 hours ago.

  13. Its a pity that you don,t want Collie in the mix,i firmly believe the finest lurchers ever created are Deerhoundy/Collie based.you're probably right, I just dislike the collie, always found them a nuisance and trying to bite you when you weren't looking on the farms..... I don't think they are rubbish by any meansThe best balanced Deerhoundy lurchers are better with something else in the mix,at times.I find the Collie influence brings an edge to the breeding that nothing quite comes close to,the Collie as an habit of doing that with lurchers.how could a collie x possibly bring anything good in

  19. Ive done both,as you rightly state driving the land,at night, will put a lot more in front of the dog that it would never account for daytime,it also gives some access to land that would otherwise be off limits any other time.I don,t believe it taxes the mutt more than a daytime dog, far, far less, the motor and driver do the majority of the work and drop a dog within easy range of its intended target, many of these dogs would never connect otherwise, especially in the daylight when they would have to do all the leg work .I believe everybody should try it because it certainly as its moments, its one
  20. Its a waste of brass me buying it,i can,t read and how will i source an unknown bloodline?,its unknown.
  21. Id not own a dog that could not think and adapt to each and every hunting scenario,if it ran headstrong into obvious obstacles and never learnt from it id find it a pet home.Reckless dogs spend far less time in the field whilst recovering from unnecessary injuries,a smarter and more careful mutt will spend far longer catching what an injured dog cannot.Im not to bothered that many a run will end in a blank, its there to run and be hunted again.
  22. You can pick up the CMW and visit sites like this and there will be a litter a month advertised that are bred from the country,s leading Coursing bloodlines, they seem to be easily available to anybody that wants to pay the original asking price. The folk that wait whilst many of these litters are advertised for the 3rd time pay a fraction of the original cost. The best litters of lurchers are more often bred from an unknown source and bloodline and cost a fraction of the price,if they are priced at all.Id be ashamed to breed a litter of pups with dollar in mind, many a so called elite litter is o
