  1. Rex was the dog i seen with JY,and yes he was a good dog,big strong dog.
  2. Might not have been, just remember the lad saying thast the pup had TEX in its breeding.
  3. I can just imagine if that hound got lost, did anyone see my fanny, lol. what a name to put on a hound.
  4. Kevin DR gave a lad from up here a dog pup about 8-9 year ago,he knew him through the tug o war,he told him that TEX was in his bloodlines would this be the same dog that JM has.The dog started of well but then went down hill big time, would not even go to ground in the end and was never pushed hard or over worked, just curious as in another post someone mentioned that TEX was not a great producer.
  5. 10-12 months is too young for entering a young dog.I had a bitch self enter by accident a few year ago and she done almost 3 hours to ground before we finially broke through to her,she was 8-9 months old.She done nothing wrong and worked like a veteran but was then held back until she was 14-15 months old and has done the buisness since with no problems, its a bit like boxing,no one will put a child in the ring with an adult same should be practiced with terriers, whats the point in rearing a pup to almost maturity and then go and spoil it in a day just because your too eager to enter it,let it
  6. Some very good dogs about back then same as there is now.The late ML from Co.Meath had a very good border dog[HARRY] that new his job and as smasher said, could go up through the gears when needed.I seen another very good patterdale belonging to GE a dog called 1 eyed bob,had some myself that stood out from the rest,1 was a little black dog called TOD,another was a black rough haired dog RIP and a bullxrussell called SPOT and thats going back a good few years.N.Cooney had a very good black bitch PIP and a dog called POKER,could be here half the night naming terriers, lol great to think back abou
  7. Chesney what were the Booth dogs like to work as in style,hard-mixers-bayers,heard a lot about them down the years but never seen 1 in the flesh.
  8. I did not say he was lying i said the 1st i ever seen in his yard was a red dog and that was early 80s and before that all i ever seen was russells or russellx's.
  9. Well done the pup Zilverhaze, hope he goes on to be a good grafter for ya.
  10. 1st fell type i seen in JY yard was a red dog, forget his name but it was the 1st of that type i ever seen him with, was always russell types before that and that was around 1980-81.
  11. Lads its a little scrape from a bird thats weights what,5-6lb,cut back its spurs and handle it more often should be fine.
  12. Topper, there are people into every breed of dog goin just for a quick buck. The difference between the beddy's and we will just say as you said black dogs is that a far greater % of black dogs work to a high standard than a beddy, same as russells, lakeys, and i would even go as far as saying it it easier to find good working borders than to find good working bedlingtons.I am in no way knocking the breed but its just the way its gone, for instance how many honest earth working bedlingtons do you know of apart from your own,i can think of none on this side of the water and i have seen a few, even som
  13. I reckon it all depends on what you want the dog to work,if its cover or bushing then yes same as any other breed good and bad but if its earth work then you will find there are a lot more bad than good,i would even go as far as to say the % of working bedlingtons as an earth dog are very low on the scale, jmo.
  14. Thats how he fed them, just skin the animal and walk away.
  15. There was an open drain up along one side of the lane into his yard where he used to hunt the rats with the terriers,he would just start shouting rats rats and every terrier in the place would be in or along the bank of the drain, lol im now thinking of all the sandwiches we ate in his house, lol but his wife had made them or the daughter, mind you i once seen her the daughter emerge from the belly of a cow where she had been cutting out lumps of meat for pups and PK shouted to her to go in and put kettle on and make up sandwiches, never looked to see if the hands were clean, anyway done us no harm
  16. Well Neil we were not charged anything like that price,if memory serves me right i think we gave him £40 a piece for the pups which in the early 80s was a considerable amount for a terrier pup in this country anyway.I remember another friend bought a working bred wheaten pup of him at the same money, the sire to this pup was also the sire to many wheatenxgh, dog called RAMBO,i think you may remember the dog neil.Another thing about PK was that you never left his yard hungry, always fill you with grub before you headed for home and the yarns he could tell was worth the journey alone.Another thing
  17. 1st i seen of the black dogs was -81,but long before that i knew a man who kept a strain of red terrier identical to what some might call a red fell or lakeland, biggish type with rough wirey coat[great coat on them actually].Around the same time another man from a different area got himself a red terrier which he stated was a red fell and it came across the water and got a name for itself over here as a diging dog and served a good few bitchs.I seen the dog work as a very young dog and it could do the buisness, took no prisoners but could mind himself, some on here may remember the dog,JY had it
  18. Pups geting nice and strong Danny, looking good.
  19. When i kept ferrets over 30 year ago i had a pen with the hutches built inside and open 24/7 so the ferrets could go out into a half concrete/grass run with pipes of every discription lying about in the run for them to play about in.The youngsters were great craic to watch when playing. The pen was made up of sections of 1in weld mesh so no escape from it with a drinker with a ballcock on so fresh water at all times + they would use the grass end as a toilet so cleaning was to a minimum.
  20. You ever consider that she may be able to smell them as most dogs of any breed will scent another dog a long way off.
  21. Did you never cross the fence, not even once.
  22. R.I.P TOMMY,was only chatting with a friend about the man earlier in the week.
  23. Is there stalls at the show this year,i mean selling dog gear as could do with a few things.
  24. Sheep dip will get rid of most itch related problems and most sheep farmers will give you a drop,it does not take much and make sure it is well diluted.I put it in a spray bottle and do both dogs and sleeping boxes works a treat.
