Too small for serious earth work, maybe good enough for the odd dig or bolting a few. -

Dug to loads of bullx's of every % from the mid 70s to early 80s as it was all that was available about me at the time. They were mainly staffxrussell with the odd exception on ebxrussell. Some were very hard[stupid hard] and more were very steady diging dogs.I had up until a couple of year back a pattxbull that was dug to a lot over 6 seasons and never let us down, bit over anxious for his own good and finished up with only a couple of teeth left at 7 year old, gave to to a mate that just wanted something to bush with or bolt the odd fox for his running dogs as i would not use him again, would not -

Was in Brians yard around 91-92 and he had both smooth and broken coated terriers in kennells, also seen him over here with a van load of both. -
No one is telling anyone to mind there own buisness, the dogs are gone its all over and done with so should be let go,its all well and good saying name and shame but people dont know exactly what went on.I had all my dogs robbed, between adults and pups 12 in all in a night, cleaned me out.I searched every camp site, every dog thief that i heard tell of or was given names on to no avail, dogs never turned up or were heard tell of again even though men every end of the country north and south were on the look out for them,i didnt give a bollox whose yard i went into looking for them but not all peop

You dont know the ins and outs to it Dogfox, easy to say on here that you'll do this that and the other, best left alone.

I think this particular subject should be put to rest, whats done is done and cant be reversed, lesson learned as the saying goes, once bitten twice shy, dont allow it to happen again,Chesney and his mates still have very good blood about them to carry on with regardless of what the lost.

Sheep dip, best off all imo,and most farmers will gladly give you enough to cover all of the dogs and when finished put in a nap-sack and spray kennells and sleeping areas, job done.

sound advice mary... the dogs tail is connected to is spine plus its back legs & femur bones very important for the terriers thrust, its main driving muscle.. a terrier digs with their front legs and pushes through with its back legs... a terriers tail has never been docked for a handful or the show brigade, its been done for century's for the welfare of the terrier... so it doesn't get tail sore wagging its tail doing the job a terrier loves in very confined spaces most of its working career.. if you open a hole correctly there is no need to grab for the terriers tail. just back

And just because he told you himself you believe him,Brian is no doubt a gentleman but also will tell you exactly what you want to hear,Brian has sold a hell of a lot of pups, good and bad but if a white pup turned up in a litter belonging to him he is hardly going to say its an out cross to something else, saying even though they were kept tight sounds a hell of a lot better, and no offence towards Brian.

Lovely fox Black Stuff, you really should get it mounted,i have had 1 with a white front leg years ago but never anything like that.My diging mates uncle has a snow white fox stuffed, hunted from a bog and shot many years ago,by the way, what you doing out diging mid-week,thats cheating lol.

Could not give a flying fcuk what colour a terrier is as long as it does what i expect from it,work comes 1st in my eyes everytime, was only giving an example.

Had a black n tan lakey bitch some years back that i bred twice,1st to a lakey dog[bk-tan] and 2nd time to a black fell dog, both times she through a white pup in the litter.

They aren't exactly difficult to find. I'll stand by what I said, the Trials weren't a true test of the dogs gameness.... DF,i have seen 1st hand very game dogs in the field that no way would travel a shoot, different kettle of fish completely, trials dogs had to enter a shore, travel a specified lenght of shoot before they even came in contact with there game, different story looking across a pit at whats in front of them, respect has to be given on both accounts, horses for courses as they say.
-
The trials were never about drawing the game,it was about working the game for a time limit in complete silence with judges listening for the slightest whimper. You think that's an automatic sign of gameness? Even some game Bulldogs sing in bouts... Can anybody post the rules of the old Badger Trials? A test for a dog no doubt but dogs were getting worked harder in the field than in the trials.... I never said it was a sign of gameness, just stating the way it was run.I have also seen strong dogs in the field that were very good at there work and would on occasion make a bit of noise, more

Dog nuts are really good when birds are in the moult, especially if weather is cold it really helps them get through the few weeks, oats imo are of no real benefit unless just to fill up your container.Whole wheat, kibble maize, grower pellets and a coating of pigeon oil and there happy out along with a handful of soaked dog nuts every other day and whatever veg you can get your hands on,i usually get a few packs of frozen peas in aldi or lidl, cheap and easy kept.

Yes, we have a lot of young in badger hunting. It's a great hope. Each year, between 60 and 70 new teams are created (the same number disappeared, so we stay around 1.500 teams in France). Most of the young are very involved. But for the futur, I'm more cautious. It'll depend on spread of vegan ideology (more dangerous for my way of life than muslim radicals because it's insidious). This major problem concerns all the rural life, farmers, hunters, fishers, foresters, animal breeders, riders... Good to see the youth taking an interest in the hunting game, around me there more into doin

I think money was the ruination of the border, why give say £400-500 for a border pup when you can get a well bred patt or other breed of working terrier at less than half the price.1st border we had [bitch] cost £ from lads down in Cobh who had the parents and grand parents to the pup and all well worked. The 2nd was a working dog a mate of mine got us as we were stuck for workers a £300 and that was with a weeks trial, dug to twice 1st day we had him out.My digging mate kept him[RUSTY] at his as he had more room than myself at the time.He had a hard 8ft dig to the dog one saturday along with hi

well Neil I beg to differ on the best border as the one I had the pleasure of gracing the soil to him was a top notch dog too, top with another black dog both long at rest now, I have also dug to a couple of good working borders,2 we had ourselves and 1 which a mate owned. This dog came from a pet home in Dublin where my mate was doing work, the lady of the house wanted rid as it was killing the local cats.My mate took this dog home on a friday and dug to it on the sunday,1st time to be around an earth. The dog went on to make a bit of a name for himself up until the day he died, sadly his owne

Ground and dogs vary a lot,ive saeen dogs over the last few years that you would not hear under a sheet of newspaper and yet right beside them, just lay there witrh a hold happy as larry.Ground also plays a big part in the use of a probing bar,in sand i find the probe is very usefull asa it gives you the exact dept before break through and then there is no caving in while diging as you know how far you've got to go so can take it easy.I disagree with Neil about the difference in the bar and Spade-grafter,if you can follow the dog and dig down on its rear then the same can be done with the bar a

Why use stones Blaise, would they not be a hazard next time you have to dig in same stopend with say falling in on top of the dog as you go down, would ye not just fill up that particular Stop and by doing that create a new one right next to it.

Few months back a woman up the road from me asked if i would have a look at her little dog as it seemed to have a bad bite mark on its shoulder and neck and she could not understand it as her yard was closed in by a 6ft panel fence so no way for another dog to get in.I went up and sure enough it had a pretty bad bite on its shoulder and also on its back and both had become infected.I cleaned the wounds with Betadine and gave the little dog a shot of penstrip.I asked her had the dog got out at anytime recently and she said no but one morning when she opened the back door to let the dog out to d
