A certain man you know lost a good little bitch because of that very reason, she pushed up that tight she could not breath and paid the price, wedged tight in hard ground with quarry inches in front of her,it was her 1st time out this season, she died trying to get there.

Shot a fox in my own back garden not that long ago with its front paw missing and its bacl leg gone up at the knuckle and it was in great fettle, fat as a fool but was feeding on my chickens so thats where its luck ran out.I had a dog some years back that lost its front leg in a fight with a couple of terriers in the next pen, they pulled his front leg of right up at the chest,my own fault as there was only 2in mesh seperating them, lesson learned, but after a lot of cleaning and tlc he overcame this tragedy and was dug to several times afterwards with onlt 3 legs, some off here actually seen and d

This pup came of the man himself, hasnt seen much. I have also heard they can be slow to go, before anybody jumps at me I will say again I HEARD lol but when they do go that's it, they are great terriers! Who ever told you they were slow to start is talking bullshit or else they have not seen the proper AC stuff.I have entered 4 and all have done the buisness 1st time out and my digging mate has a dog from same breeding and it started at a young age also any young stuff i have seen belonging to AC himself or his digging mate have all entered young.

Plucky can i ask what were live foxs used for as in the 1st part of your post you say you were taught to dispatch quickly without any cruelty involved and at the end of the same post you are tapeing them up taking them alive.

West Coast Of Ireland Fishing. Help.
fat man replied to mick20's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
If your not going until october then the trout fishing waters will be closed not sure about the salmon. The pike are all year round, lough derravarragh in westmeath is a good hit for pike and also the Inny river that flows out of it towards the Shannon, some great strethes along it for pike and course fishing. -
Its called standards lol.

I have yet to come on a set-earth that has not at least 1 stop in it,especially concerning badgers[pre-ban] as they like to lay up in a nice bed of grass or such.I am not knocking Blaise's dogs, horses for courses but i reckon its the dog that is not able to drive-push the quarry into the stop.Years ago pre-ban if an animal was dug and released it would take a good terrier to get a result the next time it was entered to the same animal as it would not be pushed to a stop so easily 2nd time around and the terrier had to really work and presure it to get it in a stop, big difference in diging anim

We nearly always have my mates colliexhound with us and she is a perfect marking dog,has never been proved wrong in all the years in looking at her. There were days when she would say no and the entrance to to an eareth be that well run the sides would be shining but enter a terrier and the answer would still be no one home today.
-
If as you say the dog with draws and the quarry is still within then would you not call that dog a jacker-spewer for coming of its game,i understand you say lack of stop-ends but if the terrier is up to its job it should eventually push its quarry to a stop not come away.Pre-locater days i have had terriers to ground all day and also through the night until next day until eventually dug to.

Has BN nothing he could give or sell you to tide you over, ive heard that he loans out youngsters to lads to run them on for him.
-
D,you wont get much sympthy on here buddy and your not that old, think about it you will soon have the free bus pass and that will knock the driving on the head give you more time to rest, lol, your just in a grumpy mood today,go outside have a peek at the dogs and come back in and tell us again your quiting, not a fear of it.
-
Why do you reckon everyone on this side crosses there pats with something or other, and what makes you think or gives you the right to say BN bettered the pats when infact he actually bought in litters of other people and then sold them on as his own,so tell us all how the man or his family bettered the patterdale in the last 15-20 years. What Brian is breeding now would not be fit to do a decent days graft over here, not the type of digging we do anyway, they would be swallowed up and spat out.Brian is breeding for the market in the states where a little small terrier is needed, simple as.
-
Yeah and then he will breed of it or from it and so fort and more shite on the merry go round,Lee dont be mislead by the big names in the terrier world, there is much better in lads back yards that no one knows or heard of.Brian has bred some good terriers but anyone with half a brain would have to agree with the amount of pups he has bred he is bound to breed a few workers along the line at some stage, you could put 2 non-workers together and they could throw a couple of workers but the % of non workers or failures he has bred out-weighs the workers by a long shot, again not knocking the man,his

Good mate of mine died yesterday morn,TOMAS[TOSH]ANDERSON,he was in his earely 70s and died of cancer.Tosh kept terriers for years and was the 1st man i dug with when i 1st moved to my present address. He kept a line of Jack Russells that was bred locally and dug to them up intil about 15-18 years ago then turned his attention to running dogs.He was a very well liked man,a great carracter and good dog man,a lot of lurcher men from the north will have known him well,RIP.

How can you say there consistent lol,the man breeds 100s and has done so there bound to throw workers now and again,i bet there is a big difference in the % of workers to failures in the litters.
-
A belter in your eyes might not suit the next man, everyone has different standards and not having a dig at you or the dog,the stuff i seen from Nuttal 30 years ago are no comparision to the little things he is puting out nowadays.
-
Might aswell say it as think it,i seen nuttal bred dogs back in the mid 80s early 90s and they were far better made than what is being produced nowadays, can you imagine one of them little terriers thats being bred now on a good educated animal, only be 1 winner, lol.
-
Met and spoke with MR NUTTAL on a few occasions and yes he is a complete gentleman, his terriers on the other hand from what i have seen of them in say 30 years are after changing big time, from rough and ready dogs well capable of doing a job on any quarry to little pug faced light framed dogs that would be of no use to myself and id imagine most lads that do serious diging.

And looking you will be.

Who Has Pure Nuttall Terriers
fat man replied to foxhunting1's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Too small for serious earth work, maybe good enough for the odd dig or bolting a few.that's some statement lolit's true I wouldn't say to small seen some good little worriers in my day I would say not good enough for proper work for the way they were bred hunt sevice only most of them a good Russel can do the same jobSo by that statement you are saying russells are only good for the odd dig and bolting a few very general that and there probably be a few lads that know just how wrong you arewere dos it say that I said a Russel is good for the odd dig and bolting a few get your facts right before -

Jiggy thats a bit of a ridiculas statement about standards,is it not the very reason lads cull hard when terriers are inferior and breed from nothing onlt of the highest standard and keep striving to actually improve the standard they already have even though its at a high as it is. -
