Woodcock-nice to see them back
fat man replied to tegater's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
we had a good morning on the woodcock earlier. My 2 shooting mates and another chap we invited out went for our 1st serious morning at woodcock this season resulting with 8 in the bag and 11-12 flushed by the dogs, dogs worked very well and were still flying after 3 hours of heavy cover, good shooting, good dog work and good craic on a crispy frosty morning what more could a man ask for. -
there was a large steep hill in front of my home place and when it snowed we used the bonnet of a vw bettle as a sledge,f**k it could pick up some speed, scary at times.
-
Good stuff Danny, nice strong looking bitch, very like a dog i had here a few years back,he was wheatonxlakey.
-
Looks like they settled in nicely, hope they do the buisness for you.
-
Thats good coming from you fatty, when you get on the scales it says 1 at a time please, lol.

Yes she is a cracker just wish I had more time for her More time or more like her to flog at £250 a pop for mongerals and that is just what they are like it or not.Why dont you give it free to someone that will bush with it instead of making coin out of it,thats a ridiculas price for such a dog, over here we give them away free.

Seen both Dixie and Spike on there 1st digs and if memory is right both were down this country, definatly Spike.
-
Thats called pocket billiards,lol.
-
Seen Dixie work a few times and all i can say is she was an honest working terrier that gave her all every time as did pip and others of the same bloodline. We are not machines same as our dogs are not and everyone has a favourite and its not nice when they go,at least she died where she grew up.

Pablo its easy to write stuff into a book or mag, paper wont refuse ink and most authors wont refuse a good story let it be truth or lies as you probably know yourself.I used to read about a certain line of dogs belonging to a man whos name was up there with the rest of the big names in the terrier world and was always thinking how would i get my hands on some of this breeding.Well i had a couple of lads over from the UK for a wknds diging years ago and through the wknd i was asking about these dogs and was told that they would not touch them, only moderate fox dogs at best so on hearing that a

Jealousy sometimes plays a big part in it,the amount of people that would love to see a good terrier jack or a good line go belly up is unreal.

Mid Tube Or Stopped End
fat man replied to Dig-deep-draw-charlie's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I have seen and dug to terriers to grips mid-tube and soon as you break the terrier of the quarry is gone and you thinking it was a stop-end nothing can be done in that situation bar to take hold of both terrier and quarry, but to break through to a terrier baying in mid-tube and soon as the quarry see's daylight it says not happy here and its away is a f**k up in my book,a decent terrier should push its quarry to a stop if not its not giving 100% imho. -
We had a staff bitch that we worked to ground on a few occasions through nesscessity as we were low on diging dogs and she done the buisness but was limited on the earths she was able to travel in even though she was a very small bitch. We then bred her to my mates patt dog which produced a dog i kept for almost 7 seasons, very good diging dog and for a halfx he was smaller than any of the black terriers i keep,he was a bit too hard for his own good and in the end i would not work him anymore and gave him to a friend who done a bit of bushing with the lurchers.I hope your bitch works out for you

Woodcock-nice to see them back
fat man replied to tegater's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
Went for a stroll this morning where i had been told there were a few red deer about just to have a look and see if there were any signs of them as i have permission to stalk this area.I took along the 2 springers for the walk to loosen them out a bit and they actually flushed 2 woodcock from a little birch wood along the edge of the bog,in saying this we shot a good number of woodcock in the same area last season so no surprise but nice to see them all the same.As for teal we have them in abundance around us,every pond we shoot holds in good numbers and we have been shooting them since openin -
You would think the dog was laughing himself, lol.
-
The dog in my avatar would bite while been lifted from a dig but that was his only fault if you call it a fault.
-
Entered a young bitch this season and she going well to date, repeat mating, was the only pup in the litter of 6 to survive so happy out, otherwise season going well with plenty of diging.

couldnt of put if any betterwould you say that any dog that barks is afraid? And if a dog was not barking and was sitting with his quarry and waiting for you to break through to be buried into it , be hard and intelligent _? That can be answered in 2 ways Pablo,1st a well used-worked terrier that gives a bit of tongue could be showing its quarry respect as long as it does not let it push by him when the time comes,2nd it could be afraid of its shite of the quarry and sooner sit back sounding its head of than get stuck in and when the pressure comes will more than likely let the quarry push

Same blood as the stuff you already have Chesney, nice pup.

A terrier that knows the score and is committed will and should hold its game given there are no obstacles in its way. There are times when a terrier will meet its quarry maybe in a very large tube and then it can get by after a lot of tussling but in a reasonable size tube-stop it should hold its game.Pre-ban when other animals could be dug legally an animal that had been dug and released was not going to be dug easily 2nd time around and no matter what lads say you wont dig them with a sounder as when it pushes and it will once it hears the shovels working over head the sounder will move with

Id try do a deal with him, leave the tele and take the missus,at least with the tele if you dont like whats been said you can change the station.

Way it should be left, fair dues General.

Daniel no point in lying about the way a terrier works as it always comes out in the end, terrier world is a small gene pool and the truth will always surface at some stage and why lads do is beyond me,all your kidding at the end of the day is yourself.

Glyn i would call that drive and determination to get there to its fox,i have seen and been out with dogs through the years that when you open up there siting 3ft of there fox screaming there heads off, this to me is of little use as the fox may not be in a stop and will move back soon as you break through.I had a black bitch [bESS] years ago that was a demon on fox, would kill them for sport,i remember 1 day a man told us he had run 2 fox in an earth with his lurchers while hare hunting and as we were nearly beside the place decided to give it a run.We entered Bess and stood back with our own l
