  1. True Leeview its brilliant catching rabbits in nets you've made yourself.
  2. Been using the roughneck micro last 3 seasons and as much as I like it I could do with a bigger spade. Im looking at the bulldog rabbiting spade, bloody expensive but Ive used bulldog shovels at work and they are built to last. Just wondering how heavy the bulldog is? because I walk to all my perms. Anyone know the cheapest place to get one?
  3. I work both but as I said on a previous post if hobs could pass through purse nets I wouldn't bother with jills.
  4. I only tried it once and loved it. Im after some squirrel shooting so I can fill the freezer with them.
  5. If one of them asks for a rockhammer start worrying lol.
  6. Theres about 15 trees in this spot all loaded so should be a good harvest. The greys beat me to the hazel nuts in the same area so Im hoping they dont like walnuts.
  7. I don't know if that would work or not Jax. I dont fancy experimenting with mine though to expensive.
  8. One big advantage the mk3 has is the search function. The big disadvantage is the stupid noises it makes, Id rather it made the tapping sound like the old boxes did.
  9. If hobs could pass through purse nets without disturbing them Id probably not keep jills at all if Im honest. I find them vastly superior in every other way.
  10. My best worker is a big hob. You might do a bit more digging to hobs but as long as youre fairly fit that shouldn't be a problem.
  11. Found a few walnut trees on my walk this morning. Anyone pick walnuts? According to my pocket guide best left until late October or early November. Im thinking about trying some pickled.
  12. Theyre harvest mites. My ferrets always pick them up early season, I treat with beaphur.
  13. Ive only had field mushrooms and parasols. I see a hell of a lot when Im out walking but I don't trust my id skills with most of them. I was out walking yesterday and saw 3 mushrooms shaped like milk bottles sticking out of the ground. Anyone know what these are? Theyre not in my mushroom guide.
  14. Tomo I read about that method in Fred J Taylors book. He suggests blocking the holes at arms length just before crops are harvested. I know the perfect place to try it next season.
  15. I went out yesterday morning planning to get a bag of hazel nuts but the trees were stripped bare. Theres loads of greys about so I think they've beat me to it. Came back with a big bag of apples and a load of blackberries instead and had a crumble so all was not lost.
  16. I always cook my rabbits for over 2 hours and they come out lovely and tender. I have cooked old buck rabbits for my dog in the past and they come out like rubber no matter how long you cook them for.
  17. I think you have more chance of having ferrets that stick with rabbits in stops if you give them time to mature before starting them so 6 months minimum for me.
  18. Ceers lads. I think Ill see what the landowner thinks of the idea and go from there.
  19. Only things Ive bolted apart from rabbits are rats and stoats.
  20. I recently read about soaking apples or potatoes in creosote and rolling them into a warren to stink the rabbits out and push them into other warrens. I have a realy awkward warren on my land and was thinking about giving it a go. Anyone tried this method? Not sure of the legality?
  21. Liver fluke maybe? If in doubt chuck it out.
  22. Good write up. As for the balls they could be tapeworm cysts. If you burst them and they have what looks like white eggs in a sack of liquid that's tapeworm. I find tapeworm on rabbits whenever Im ferreting near sheep.
  23. The original dawn of the dead is my favourite horror. Anyone seen a british film called mum and dad? If you want to see something disturbing watch it.
  24. I clean the crap corner everyday and a total cleanout once a week or so. Never used bleach or anything.
