  1. Goodfellas great film. "MADE IT MA TOP OF THE WORLD"
  2. I had a tick explosion last summer after feeding a fresh crow to my ferrets. I freeze them now to be certain.
  3. Snipped hob best way imo. I did leave a pair of jills in season one year and nothing bad happened as a result but I like to play it safe.
  4. Sounds like either theres nothing home or your ferret hasn't caught on yet. Either way stick with it and youl get there. I tried to learn snaring a couple of years ago and didn't have much luck. Out of 4 catches 2 I believe were pulled out of the snare by foxes, 1 was a pheasant and 1 was a good catch. I might have another crack at it not for big numbers just enough to keep the ferrets fed in the summer.
  5. The veg bags are a good tip shame I do my shopping online. Might have to do a special trip buy a carrot and grab a couple of hundred bags.
  6. I couldn't afford one when I was a kid so ferreted a few seasons without one. Had some worrying moments wondering if the ferret was ever going to show. I wouldn't be without one now.
  7. They shit for England on the dry to so it cant be great for them. I feed mine mainly rabbit but if I cant get that pigeon dove corvid squirrel etc. If I run out of all that (which I always do at some point in the summer) I have to buy some chicken wings.
  8. Paedophile rape gangs genital mutilation honour killings halal meat sharia law the burka Great bunch of lads lol.
  9. Yeah they will have phantom pregnancys. Im on my second snipped hob and have never had any unwanted young. Ive heard of it happening a few times though.
  10. James Cagney Edward G Robinson Paul Muni Love the early gangster films.
  11. Surprised no ones mentioned James Gandolfini amazing actor. Ive had a sopranos obsession since episode one.
  12. I started using longnets this season. Had a couple of realy enjoyable sessions ferreting big clumps of brambles in a horse paddock. First session was longnets only and I had a few hole hoppers, second session I also took 20 purse nets and caught them as they were entering or exiting. I like both longnets and purse nets but longnets are a nice lazy way of doing things.
  13. I like it with roast potatoes parsnips and bread sauce.
  14. The eat out of landfill sites don't they? Id have to be starving before I ate corvid. The ferrets enjoy them though.
  15. It shouldn't affect the taste and being frozen in the skin protects against freezer burn. Soak the meat over night in salt water to remove the gamey taste.
  16. Hobs in jills not here. I wonder why hobs always come in earlier?
  17. As Vin said they don't all work. I got 3 jills last season held them back to the beginning of this season gave them plenty of chances and only one made the grade so I found a nice pet home for the other two. Having said that my best worker showed no interest in his first season whatsoever but the last two hes been a solid performer.
  18. I bought one of Moxys boxes on here also sold a Hw45 pistol no problems with either.
  19. I wear a dpm jacket I bought for shooting years ago I think I only paid £15 for it. I only realy wear it for ferreting because it has pockets for locator knife a few nets etc. If its raining I wear my hi vis orange work coat doesn't seem to make a difference.
  20. He looks near identical to my best worker.
  21. Yeah Im done as well mate. If Im asked to clear a few Ill do it just to hang on to my land but other than that Ill hang my nets up until September.
  22. When I was younger I only kept two castrated hobs cos I didn't think I could deal with the grief of a Jill; regardless of the benefit, after a 10 year break from ferrets, I picked up 2 again and got a hob and a Jill, the Jill seems more able at ferreting (however the hob is no bad either) but I do think a hob is similar. Get him snipped, watch his weight, simples. The Jill seems far livelier which makes her better for working but did take her longer to handle; and the little f$cker skulks in the holes and it really p#sses me off! Oh and the vet told me that castrating a hob also carries a ri
  23. I sometimes wonder if keeping 3 or 4 castrated hobs and no jills is the way forward. I use a snipped hob as said which I believe is the best option but its not perfect. What realy bugs me is when the jills go all mothery and keep dragging each other back to the nest. Also no matter how much bedding mine had last year they dragged every bit of wood shaving out of the crap corner and into the sleeping compartment as soon as I puut it in there. Last year I was woken up about 3am I could hear ferret screaming. I ran down to see what was happening and found the snipped hob was mating a jill whi
  24. Cant believe the prices of jill jabs these days. When I still used the jab it was £5 a go. Might be worth you trying to find someone local with a snipped hob you could borrow.
  25. I had a weihrauch HW45. Brilliant pistol wish Id never sold it.
