  1. According the the nhs 48 hours is enough. I cant quote or put links in posts since the site went down ages ago but if you google nhs tapeworm prevention youl find it.
  2. Ive heard that before bkh I just freeze them to be on the safe side because I wasn't 100% on that fact. I usualy chuck in a fresh rabbit as soon as I get back from ferreting so theres every possibility my ferrets have eaten infested rabbits anyway.
  3. Every time I ferret anywhere near sheep fields I find these tapeworm cysts. Freeze for 48 hours and they are fine to feed the ferrets.
  4. Looks like interesting land, whats the old building?
  5. Sorry to hear that must be gutting. Distemper maybe?
  6. Nick you used the bisley 4z netrs for 18 years? You must have the patients of a saint. I used mine for a couple of sessions before I started making my own nets.
  7. Has anyone ever worked out how much you save making your own nets? I make my own but Id say its only realy worth making your own if you get some satisfaction out of it.
  8. When its wet I wear a pair of cheapo £10 willies when its dry I wear my workboots.
  9. Youre unlikely to find ticks everytime just the odd occasion. The bigger problem for me last 2 years has been harvest mites early in the season, got rid both times with beaphur.
  10. I use a tick twister as mentioned above. Frontline is probably the best stuff to use and always good to have in case the ferrets pick up anything.
  11. LFM if you gut rabbits as soon as possible after killing them they shouldn't have a strong smell while youre cooking them.
  12. I love rabbit burgers minced rabbit mixed with some sausage meat or minced belly pork then add whatever flavours you enjoy, I chuck in some finely chopped chillis onions and some garlic puree. Last night I boiled 3 rabbit saddles for one and a half hours stripped the meat from the bone and poured on a jar of madras sauce lovely. Rabbit nuggets Minced rabbit mixed with sausage meat rolled into balls dipped in egg white then rolled in breadcrumbs. Couple of weeks back I boiled a couple of rabbit saddles for half an hour wrapped in streaky bacon and cooked in the oven on a low heat fo
  13. I was In my kitchen a few months back and saw a young bloke in my garden, I ran out the door and tried to run down the side of the garden so I could get close to him without being seen so I could catch him and find out exactly what he was up to. Got to about 20yds and he looked straight at me I was fuming at this point and shouted COME HERE YOU CNUT, he took off at speed so I never did find out what he was doing. Its likely he was just trying to cut through the garden but who knows. Stealing animals it doesn't get much lower than that hope you get them back.
  14. I know exactly what the op means they can be tricky to chin in the longnet especialy when they've rolled around and gotten into a tight tangle. I don't use a priest but if used properly Id imagine they would be just as humane as chinning. Suprising how deep them bunny kicks can cut your hands, I was chinning a rabbit in a purse net last season and it kicked out and put a deep gash in the palm of my hand.
  15. That's what I do on the rare occasion I lay my hands on a pheasant. Prepare the bird for yourself and chuck what you don't want the head wings and guts in to the ferrets.
  16. How old is your hob RIPJD? if hes this years he could be a bit immature to start.
  17. Keep trying him in small warrens is all you can do most get it to some extent and some are just pets.
  18. I fed my ferrets dry years ago then switched to raw the difference was amazing they had more energy better coats and looked healthier all round. A good ferret will stay with a rabbit in a stop or stay with a kill for a short while. Lay ups I cant see happening unless the ferret is half starved.
  19. If you look at those latches side on do they have a hole in them? If they do its just a case of putting a stick through the hole and theres no way they can open.
  20. Ive heard of ferrets dragging rabbits out and I do believe you get the odd one that does it. Id have thought it would be a pain in the arse though waiting for a ferret to drag a rabbit through yards of tunnels must take ages, surely the normal hob that kills and sticks with a rabbit long enough to get a mark with the locator is better?
  21. My hob has a half bald tail at the minute nothing you can do but wait.
  22. Tried my brs this morning and Im impressed. Should have bought one a long time ago.
  23. I like to shape my nets but not right out to the middle. That way I don't have loads of twine on the ring where its not doing anything useful but I still have loads of bagging on the main body of the net where it counts. I go 10 12 14 16 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 18 16 14 12 10.
  24. Are the transplanting spades and the rabbiting spades the same thing bob? Someone mentioned on another thread using the plastic scoops from poundland to remove the dirt.
  25. Ive made carriers like the above and they do work well but they feel like theyre going to cut your shoulder off when theyre fully loaded. I prefer a piece of seatbelt or nylon webbing, just leg your rabbits thread the webbing through the legs and tie a knot.
