  1. My current pup is now ten months and is quite in or out, but my god i had never heard anything like it when she was a pup. I put it down to seperation. She was fine when i allowed her to mingle with my other three dogs, but when i could no longer supervise them i would put her in her cage feet away from the other dogs and this is when the crys and screams started, and by eck could she make noise, this would go on until she fell to sleep. As she got older and i began to trust my other dogs more around her she improved massively. It did at first make me think, what the hell have i bought here,
  2. Wouldnt want to get on the wrong side of that......looks one serious dog.
  3. How much kelpie is in his breeding, the last litter sleights that i saw for sale was 5/8 greyhound 3/8 kelpie.
  4. Looking foward to seeing the progress of these....... I would love to train one . Good luck with them.
  5. Had similar things happen to me a few times when out with the pram and dogs, not with bull crosses though, just owners with no idea. They think your been a bit harsh when you shift their mutt out of reach of the pram. My old bitch is very protective against any dog coming near, she'll have a go straight away to warn them, but she's a bit fearfull of g.shepherds and akita's. Makes my blood boil.
  6. Wouldnt bother with whippet or beddie whippet if just mainly lamping. Collie crosses tend to have decent feet, kelpies look to have great feet too. Nobody local you can ask who runs that type of land?

  8. Less than 100 miles.......i d have thought thats a nice distance to travel, flask of tea....fish and chips...sorted....
  9. Hopefully she will, quite a while to go yet. My bed/whip x collie/grey/whip is 18 inch at 9 months and i cant see her getting much bigger, seemed to not grow for a while then shoot up a bit at a time. Atb.
  10. With regards to using a trimmer or knife and the effect on coat. If for example you were to trim a west highland terrier with a electric trimmer, over time the coat becomes more silky and tangles so much more easily. Using a stripping knife creates much courser hair over time that is easier to brush through and won't tangle as much. Hand stripping a lurcher like you can a terrier would take a while. My lurcher has a very dense short coat and i just use a stripping knife, very gently like a comb, its the best tool around for getting the under coat out. Another good item, which is very cheap
  11. Not for me, really good, but i found it too bulky, depending on the coat, you cannot beat a good stripping knife.
  12. Nice. Strange though, a lot of them look like theres abit of bull in them, but there pure..cant get my head around it. I know the non peds had a bit of bull in them. Im sure to god somethings been added to some working whippet lines thats not 100% whippet......surely someone knows.
  13. you could be right depends on what x your wanting what lines your wanting your pup from i know when i wanted mine couldnt get then any where near me so had to travel atb True, i can see your point
  14. If he cant find a decent rabbiting pup within an hours drive theres something up.
  15. I decided on a mixture of......whippet/bedlington x collie/greyhound/whippet, early days yet......8 months, very sensitive bitch, slowly coming out of her shell. Had to laugh the other day when out, something made a russling sound in a bush and she shot about 20 yards away in the other direction. 18 inch at minute.
  16. Did you buy this pup from hoyland, barnsley? Sounds like the litter i looked at. Nice looking pup.
  17. Are you sure d.sleight gone back to collies, i nearly got a kelpie cross off him several months ago and i also thought he was on mission to breed a pure brown kelpie lurcher....or something along those lines.
  18. This my little un, she's about 18 inch at 8.5 months...... dam..bedlington/whippet x collie/greyhound x whippet
  19. Thats the one i was one about in the last hancock thread,,,,,,its a beauty
  20. I think the type of working border collie has a major part to play in the finished lurcher. Ive found the drive to hunt rabbits varies quite considerably in the few border collies ive worked to rabbits, but like i always say ive only noticed this on land where there isnt much game, when hunting up in the daytime. Some really have it naturally ingrained into them and love to hunt for a scent no matter how little game is about, where as others dont have that same natural drive to seek when theres not much about. Lamping or ferreting showed very little difference in there behaviour towards there
  21. Mine was ace on rabbits, but wasnt up to a good course......would try, but cant compare to a lurcher. Out and out rabbit dogs that will catch something else every now and again.
  22. Lovely looking things and like life long cumbrian i also thought there more racier than i expected.
  23. I think finding a lurcher from good working stock is hard, unless you know the people who are breeding them. If you want a half collie/greyhound then why not use hancock?
  24. Id have another tomorrow, long live hancock. Mmmmmmmmmm.
