  1. Nice looking whippet, makes a change to see one with markings. My first dog was a whippet, got a real soft spot for them. I spent four years (i was only a young lad and not many rabbits to go at) with him trying to catch his first rabbit, loved every minute of it. Once i started taking him lamping and the penny dropped we never looked back.
  2. I have a led lenser M14 ....http://www.zweibrueder.com/ENG/produkte/html_highperformance/html_Mserie/m14.php?id=m14, Its a very good bit of kit (top quality)......, but you can get others much cheaper which will do the same job. When i got mine delivered i switched it on in the living room in the day and didn't think that much too it, but really shocked me when i took it out at night.. . Mine takes 4 AA batteries....rechargable or normal. I think realistically good for about 150 yards, but will shine much futher. I cant believe nobody's designed a little led lamp yet. I also have a bosch
  3. That surprised me thought Sonny was a bit older than that, so what age did he first go out to stud?
  4. Is the challenge getting filmed? If i remember correcty the last challenge JG put down was on the Working Bedlington forum a few months ago, and he was talking about having it filmed or something, but the challange was never taken up(as far as im aware). I for one would put my name down for a copy if it was to be filmed.
  5. Lovely, is he a straight 1st cross border collie greyhound?
  6. What was actually said by JG in the countrymans weekly that has put the cat amongst the pigeons? I read his first whippet article a month or so ago, but i haven't bought it since.
  7. I put lenths of anti chew strips over possible edges/corners that be may chewed.....something like these ........dont know if thats what you mean....but link below sort of shows what i mean http://www.acorndev.co.uk/id7.html although i would try to get it cheap as
  8. What sort of challage will it be Brother, just wondering how the challange came about and is it Sonny your running against Jude?
  9. Don't don't the guy in person, but he emailed me a while ago when i was asking about bed/whips, he said he had owned 5 whippets. Cant see why he had any reason to lie.
  10. One of the dogs got a good inch cut to her inner top thigh when out for a walk in the woods today (it was a deep open cut..no blood). Ive never done any home vetting so to speak and as usual took the dogs to the vets. He gave the dog two injections...forgot what for, one in the neck and one in the lower back. He then sorted the cut with four metal staples (look like metal anyway). I was also given a course of tablets and have to go back in ten days. The total cost (including the next visit) £85, which i suppose isn't too bad, but what shocked me was that he said if he had put her to sleep to
  11. All my dogs have been brought on the same hunting rabbits day and night, although these days its just day day time bushing/ mouching, but i have found that even within the same breed of dog(border collies for example) some do have a natural or stronger drive to use there nose. It always amazes me how you can have two dogs that are trained in the same manner in the same area, but have totally different abilities/ styles of working. One thing i can say about the whippet i had was although he was good with his nose i have never had a working dog with such a sharp eyes for spotting things.
  12. Which lurcher type have you found to use their nose the best when hunting for their quarry? I have only experienced hunting with collie lurchers and whippets, but the two dogs that stood out the most when came to working their noses were my pure border collie bitch and my beardie/border/greyhound dog.
  13. Occasionaly get some litters on the working bedlington site................... http://www.workingbedlington.co.uk/index.php Have a look in the advert section or put a post on the lurcher section.
  14. Scruff, you will get plenty of advice on the working bedlington forum ..... http://www.workingbedlington.co.uk/index.php (covers lurchers) or The working whippet forum........ http://blackwhippet.ERFujikolp;'/index.cgi? If your wanting something to work thick cover as well as catch on the run you may be better off with the bedlington/whippet at the sacrifice of some speed. If its going to also be a house dog have you considered that you may be better with a short coat (not dragging as much mud about) if thats the case then a whippet or 3/4 whippet 1/4 bedlington.
  15. Got any pics, was the breeding a mix of bedlington...collie..whippet/greyhound?
  16. Just wondering if the Earth Dog Running Dog Show is on this year, i attended last year near Bakewell, but i heard there was some trouble night before and they will have to hold the venue somewhere else this year. Any body any idea, if so where and when. Cheers wuyang
  17. Nice looking bitch. Out of curiosity does anybody know where the earth dog runing dog show will be held this year. Was the first time i went to it last year, but i heard there was some trouble night before and now they can't hold the show there any more. Shame. cheers
  18. Good for basic commands or teaching tricks, all about the timing, the breed of dog is irrelevant.
  19. My border collie greyhound is surprisingly quick off the mark and very agile, has demon strike when it takes her fancy, she tends to pull up far too early sometimes when chasing towards a hedge and im somebody who likes my dogs to ere on the side of caution. I know how good a hunting dog they can be, but i wouldn't say the 1st cross is the best all rounder. I think its right what people say that its a bit of gamble with 1st cross collie/greyhounds.
  20. Not the best of pics... sometimes its nice to see other colours, (hold out for the colour you want, you gonna be looking at it for a long time).
  21. Sorry to hear about your dog, its a terrible thing to happen. I think its a great idea getting another dog. You will know when the time is right.
  22. I personally have found it very rewarding when i worked my rescue collie. She turned out to be the best hunting up dog ive ever worked. I forged a really strong bond with her as well. Be nice if you can give it a chance im sure given time it will do you proud.
  23. Preban.....Would catch odd hare if chanced upon and struggle with a good course, couldn't deal with foxes quickly enough..... no matter what the breeding (just my experience). Get a lurcher..... Try the working whippet forum for some unbiased advice
