  1. Wouldn't have given my best collie a second glance, but my god she was the most natural hunter I've worked.
  2. Worked a few pure working border collies to rabbits, all good, but some were much more natural at hunting up.
  3. Lovely looking dog and cracking pic.
  4. Often wondered about whippet/springers as little mooching dogs, heard good things about them, but never seen one.
  5. Fun times ahead. Looked at the pic earlier....I'm sure it will do you proud. Keeping my options open at the minute......who knows what I will end with.
  6. Thanks for making me laugh
  7. Well, that helps shed some light on it,cheers, I know either would do the job, but like lurcher work, most lurchers will catch a rabbit, but some guy's preference particular types. So is there much difference in hunting style with regards to finding game.... Like I said they have to work to find a scent, not get bored too easily. Is there much difference in their temperament......and how laid back are they when at home. Are there particular strains which would be more suitable, I'm not up on if some are bred just mainly field trials or shoots etc. What is a fair price. Sorry f
  8. I've always used jack russell terriers to find and flush rabbits to my lurchers. I usually work a mixture of woodland, open fields and bramble/hedgerows. The dogs do well to find one or two rabbits where I work them and have to work for a scent. I've just lost one of my jack Russell's to the seasonal k9 disorder and my other is 9, so maybe in the next year or two I may be getting another dog and I was considering my options. I could get another jrt, but I know there is always the possibility of it going to ground which I don't want. I'm sure either a springer or cocker would do the jo
  9. Probably wrong, but I got told its harder for the dog to pull out of the collar as apposed to a normal collar, something to do with a whippets head not been much wider than its neck, can't remember where I heard this.
  10. I also have allergies, hay fever etc....some dogs do affect me worse than others........I have never owned a gun dog so couldn't really comment on that. Certain dogs, although short haired can bring on my allergies and asthma worse than than some long hair dogs, for example boxers.... I always have to wash my hands after fussing my dogs, if not my nose and eyes can get real bad. Best bet is keep it outside, or restrain to one room in the house. I dose up on a good nose spray, hayfever tablets and eye drops. Bedlingtons and poodles are the only ones I'm aware of that seem to be better due
  11. http://www.onestopth...31mb-TN31mb.htm The thrunite tn31 is an amazing bit of kit, few spare batteries in your pocket and your sorted. The link is to a modified TN 31. I have a stock TN31 and I'm happy to leave the lightforce at home for searching. My god, modified....the original throws far enough....must go for miles.

  13. It's strange how a thread can get tangled.
  14. If you want something small have a look on youtube at some good XML cree led torches......great for what I do and their beams are amazing if you buy the right ones.........thrunite, sunwayman, fenix, tiablo. Going gear on youtube do some good reviews, distance shots with targets over 100- 300 yards. Word of warning though, if you get a torch that runs on 18650 batteries, make sure they are good quality regulated ones and use a recommended charger, if they are inferior type they can unexpectedly explode. Mine runs on simple AA batteries, if you go down this route you want to buy ene

  16. I'd prefer a bit of mix of beardie and border. Mine had all the attributes i need in a good mooching dog, and wow could he hunt up and most most importantly to me, a great temperament. I've often wondered why they are not more sort after.
