  1. Gone are the days of walking with terriers on couples and spade over shoulder.
  2. Anthropomorphozize, seeing human characteristics in an animal. They don't need what you think they need, they've got to be happy in the head more than hard in the body Some of us expect a lot from our dogs. If you want to excuse your own lack of effort to help a dog reach it's full potential that's your own business. But if you've never had a terrier fully fit and conditioned you can't know what you're talking about. I hear Dilly spends more time with them than he s letting on. He puts plenty time in his pups and pampers his old dogs on the sofa . Mines curled up by my feet as I type .
  3. I don t see it specifically to get the dogs fit it's just good to get them out having a run. If we're out on the quads my mate will have his dogs in the box all day and sometimes they won t get worked depending on how the day's going . If I know we're doing a few mile to the next place over open fields with no earths then I let mine have a run . They ve been sat in a box all morning if we ve had a long dig so don t see the problem with stretching their legs. Each to their own
  4. You don't have to believe a word I say jiggy. But I've never been 1 for lying. I threw a well paid job in 3yrs 3 weeks ago. Due to the wife struggling with our 2 disabled kids. So I've got plenty of time for the dogs in the daytime or night. One day I will have to go back to work. And I will be wishing I wasn't working. 8 to 10 miles a day I was walking the dogs they were free running when I was living in Wales up the mountain over heather ground forestry etc. Every single day no matter the weather. On very rainy days I would stick to the forestry roads for a little shelter. And wish
  5. Mine run next to the quad and love it . The old dog will do a mile or so then jump on my lap first chance he gets crafty old git. I think fitness plays a big part in my dogs . I ve seen lads dogs got out boxes fat and way out of condition and they re blowing out their arse after an hour in the ground. Even my older dogs are keen to get back in after a few hours to ground . The work they do is hard cramped and rough so why not have them fit to do it
  6. 25 s a good size though for a first cross I thought they d all be around the bitches size. Pity u could nt of done the second cross
  7. How did the fell greyhounds turn out
  8. A local man had a litter sister to one of the best all round dogs I ve owned. They were 5/8 grey 3/8 bull. He wanted the opposite to me and required something lighter but still with the fire to handle teeth. He used a fiery little beddy whippet over his bitch then kept a bitch and in time used Zorro I think it was . Then a bitch from that mating was put back to another beddy whippet again being careful to use a gutsy stud .I had a pup off him for my lad recently and she s coming on well. She ll make about 23 when full grown. She s a very forward bitch at 7 months and my 11 yr old has but loads
  9. lol they look like a lot of the locals round here
  10. i remember u asking opinions before doing that mating . How have they turned out mate . I know you ve put loads of pics up but did they turn out as you wanted or would the three quarter be a better option .
  11. my half crosses and 5/8 3/8 would all work with ferrets and retrieve to hand although not live to hand after working teeth. I always thought my half cross bitch back to a good whippet would be handy dogs for all rounders but never did the mating.
  12. Cracking bit of fun and the dogs are loving it. Nice Stafford bitch and great with the other dogs. Keep at it
  13. 18 miles is a bloody long way . Bet there was a big big sigh when u sat in the motor. Joking aside it does show how easily it can go wrong. I lamp alone mostly and it only takes a nasty trip and have no phone signal and ur knackered
  14. No idea , don t know either of you just asked if you d seen his dogs work
  15. Morton have you seen socks dogs work
  16. Just goes to show how easily gameness is lost when crossing Bulldogs with other breeds.a lot depends on the breeding of both sire and dam though. Any bulldog to any old greyhound does nt throw good half crosses. Which is where a lot of the problems lie with a lot of the bull crosses today .
  17. All mine have been worked with no slip mainly bull crosses they re no different to any other type of lurcher to train. Just plenty socialisation at an early age.
  18. Tickles me when someone turns up for lamping in real tree camo. Something comfortable quiet that suits the weather and does nt raise suspicion.
  19. Cracking read mate. Me and a few mates used to go out with an old boy with a small pack of beagles and Russell's . Only 5 or 6 of us and go round the farms pushing cover and digging the earths. I used to love getting my stuff ready on the Sunday mornings. Breakfast in the cafe first then lurchers and terriers out. Brilliant memories and cracking company. I witnessed some cracking runs with the lurchers. But most of all was the laughs. If u could nt stand the piss took it was no good coming.
  20. Looks well mate. Wish mine would eat well, picky little bitch nibbling at stuff then leaving it. I like to see pups eat all their grub they seem to do better
  21. They need to jump . A lot of stuff is lost with dogs pulling up at fences / hedges. I hate seeing a dog running up and down a hedge . Find a gap and get through. I always take my pups out young and leave them at pig netting fences to find a way through and never lift em over. They learn quickly, some will go under or through some are natural jumpers. Accidents do happen but they re working dogs and it's the nature of the job
  22. Don t think they re afraid. My old dog is nearly 13 and still works, and not in puppy spots either. All his life he s mixed and bayed and stuck to his job. He can be and has been dug numerous times on both days of the weekend . His grandson is a different kettle of fish in on and bump bump bump wait for a fair while in case he s mid tube then drop to him. I hate knocking through to him cos u don t know what ur gonna be faced with. Brave yes stupid maybe but he d die before he walked . I prefer the old dogs style and he would have accounted for a lot more stuff than his grandson but I admire th
  23. You own the dog you know his capabilities and limits. I know exactly what your after . Been there mate , wanting the dog to have the extra gears and wish you could have his heart with extra pace . Do what you think is right. I ve put a racey bull cross over a heavy bitch in the past and ended up with stuff heavier than the bitch. I think your doing the right thing if you can source a good bitch
  24. Sounds good idea to me. I run heat lamps and the bulbs are a tenner each
