  1. speaking from experience rake. in my younger years i had a bit more gob than i do now. me and a couple of mates were hounded regularly for a couple of years. mainly just having lamps confiscated and such just to cause us hassle.
  2. 2 gallons on the go here. usually get loads of apples from the neighbour but he seems to have been passing them elsewhere this year. his trees cropped heavy and early too.
  3. gotta be real careful with the plod. as said before, we probably know more of the law relating to what we get up to than they do. but antgonising em aint the way to go. if some arsey copper puts his mind to it they can make your life a misery.
  4. nice one. keep at it. the pup will learn quick
  5. i agree with this especially the last comment. when a well trained dog gets to the level that it's doing what you want i think you have cracked it. at this point you have managed harness all the best qualities of the dog ,instinct, prey drive, breeding, fitness etc and take it that little step further. its the difference between a good dog and a great dog i've always stood by that poor training can ruin a good dog but proper training can make a good dog great
  6. and you probably never will. why would folk part with one ?
  7. had 2 , a 1999 and a 2001. probably the best all round vehicles i've ever owned. the economy is a killer for me though. ground clearance is limited but a good set of a/t's will see the forester tackling any terrain
  8. i can tell we're having a late start to the season. my dog's all wound up and hyper as you like. similarly the same is showing in the lads on here. all jumping down each others throats about stuff thats mainly common sense or preference. f**king stroll on some proper weather.
  9. i'll be glad when the weather sorts itself out, the season starts proper and everyone gets on with working their dogs instead of continually yanking other folks chains
  10. love too but no cloud here at all.
  11. i mix brown bread / pasta with 1/2 tin chopped tomatoes. the bread soaks most of the juice up and he wolfs it down. if they still wont have the carbs , get down the local butchers for some hard lumps of beef fat to get the energy in
  12. yeah a nine month old dog its an operation. a day old pup or so they can even be nipped off with fingernails
  13. i commented on a previous post about a dog injuring a dew claw and it led me to ask this...... why dont more folk who breed, remove dew claws as day old pups ? no more trauma at that age than docking a terrier. i can appreciate people might not want to do this but surely with a working lurcher they are just a hinderence and another chance of getting a dog knocked up any thoughts ?
  14. surely the best answer to this is use all the space you have available and make sure they get out often
  15. there's a lot of science in this but it has to be down to how each dog performs best and thats down to each owner and i'm sure everyone knows their own animals. i feed raw, never miss a days feed and feed once a day at night time ( if i lamp its after lamping). if i am lamping he'll get a light feed at tea time to top him up. i'm constantly watching how my dog carries weight and adjust feeds accordingly. after any lamping session he'll get a bigger feed. my mate is the kennelman for a foxhound pack. he feeds fallen stock and also solid beef fat as they need the energy from fat. they always
  16. open fields on mine. f**king sick of trying to skulk around in the shadows of the hedges. got out for an hour saturday and a complete waste of time for me. dog got an extra walk though. weather's coming in now , not be long lads
  17. i use rice on adult dogs if they have the shits but i would leave out feeding for a day to let them settle first. not sure i'd want to do that with a pup. fish is light on the digestion too.
  18. if you're going to go raw then just do it straight away. get it on some chicken wings. the bone will help bind it up. beef bones are too dense. lamb ribs or back will be easier too.
  19. its normal for pups to get upset stomachs. change in home, grub etc. what was it fed before you had it ?
  20. i'm lucky with my lurcher as he had his off as a pup. but my staff ripped one off about 6 weeks ago. just kept it clean and it never bothered her. growing back now though. considering how easy it is to remove dew claws on a day old pup i'm surprised that any litter of pups bred for working don't have them removed. no trauma for the pup and easier than docking a terrier
  21. its a waste of time on my permissions with a full moon unless theres a lot of cloud cover
  22. mine don't carry the weight to miss a day's grub. don't think anyone would get a days work out of me without food either
  23. most should be able to deal with big rabbits and charlie on occasions. having said that its a right lottery. seen big ears make some cracking lamping dogs look daft and seen some killer bred dogs jib on teeth
  24. handy looking bitch that. good luck with her
