I like to see pups at 3-4 month, you have a much better idea of the stamp of the final product. It's a shame breeders don't habitually keep them back that extra month imo.
That dog pup is a cracking strong thing! I actually wish I had the work for him.
Still not managed to get myself out on a stag so instead I’ve had a few trips to to the park while the roar is on. This thread prompted me to share some pics.
Do you find the whole trail cam aspect of your hunting adds to or removes from the experience mate? It seems to be one of the big difference on your side of the pond from ours. I get that for you guys it's probably more beneficial than it is for us but I guess I mean do you enjoy it or does knowing what's out there sort of take away a bit of the anticipation/wonder of hunting?
I've played about with them but not properly got 'into' them.
I don't want to be a dick mate so please take this in the respectful manor that it's intended. I follow quite a few trophy hunting things and it seems quite contentious whether a 200lb leopard even exists. Many brutes into the 190s. But they are considered absolute specimens, not typical or average.
Jaguar go over 200.
Nah mate, I just read a lot of hunting stuff. That can be taken a number of ways...
Personally I'd just go straight to the bow. Very enjoyable flicking arrows in silence! I've had a bit of interest recently in going to iron sights too.
Its because there is a muzzle loader season before the rifle season so gun companies have worked on updating the technology. There’s controversy over it because they’re so good these days they’re basically a rifle defeating the point in an early season for them.
Stalking fallow in thick coppice/wood is great sport, proper hunting. Because it's hard, ha, so I can appreciate it makes life difficult from a management perspective.
Maybe try moving them to Rifles in seats?
If you only watch one episode, make it "Walking The Clouds". Dall sheep hunting in Alaska.
It conveys the romanticism VERY well, Rinella at his best. Also quite possibly #1 on my bucket list!
Mr Goldsmith said: “The fight against trophy hunting of endangered animals matters. It is clear that it is morally indefensible and that is why I am delighted that the Conservative Government will consult on a ban on the import of these trophies. By placing a higher value on animals alive rather than dead, we will begin to turn back the tide of extinction.”

Problem with that is they haven’t made the animals valuable alive, they’ve just made them less valuable dead. There’
I've never run deer on stock fenced land so couldn't comment but I know of a lab that regularly killed them at fences. In open country with scattered coverts they are anything but stupid.
Roe can be real stupid with stock fencing. They seem to panic and not have the calm to jump under pressure. Unpressured they can be quite fleet.
Still, plenty get caught by the hock on the top strand...
A quick google and I'm pretty sure it was THIS place. It was in Invercargill. There was basically a choice of two, the other one was a start up and cheaper but Kurt erred on the side of caution and went with his usual guy.
I wish I had got some of the possums I shot tanned too. Definitely next time!
THIS is the taxidermist he's sending the one for mounting to.
A, B & C variants. A is the regular airforce jet whereas the B and C variants are designed for Naval/maritime operations with B a ‘jump jet’ and C kitted for catapult assisted take off (a navalised version of A).
The blackbird was so fast that to counter missiles they just put the hammer down and literally outran them!
The F-22 Raptor has to be one of the meanest fighters in history though.
